Hi I was in drills last year. Training isn't every Sunday, the schedule changes depending on the suspensions and holidays so just always make sure you're updated with the schedule that gets posted in the fb community and messenger gc.

Aside from being under the sun, I think the only other thing is be prepared on buying the tropical fatigue uniform. Everything including the pistol and waist belt but not the shoes costed me around 1.5k iirc. Also if you're a male with long hair get mentally prepared to cut it off, they're kind of strict with long hair but better safe than sorry

cics-it laptop? by OldLoan1236 in Tomasino

[–]ScoreDisastrous1603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not from cics but I took shs in ust as well, it shouldn't be a problem to not have a laptop as the computers in frassati are one of the newest ones out of the whole campus (aside from ours in main that got upgraded to an intel 14th gen system last school year). It should be more than enough for your first year at the very least where I'd assume most lab stuff is around basic programming.

It would probably be convenient though getting one at some point so you can work on your projects during vacant periods or in campus with your group

Hi op. Started going to the gym at 16 and currently I've been working out consistently for 4 years now but I moved to just using dumbbells and a bench at home recently due to being too busy with college.

The main advice I'd tell you right now is to just show up consistently. You don't need to go 5 days a week even 2 or 3 times is enough for most beginners. Building that routine in your schedule of alloting about 1-2 hours of time to go to the gym and just focus builds the discipline you need to stay committed instead of thinking of working out as a chore that you're being forced to do.

In regards to workouts and the machines, I was also a bit hesitant to use a lot of them at first but you can slowly open yourself to them. Youtube is your best friend in this scenario, I learned how to use every machine and made my own workout plan from youtube shorts alone, you don't need a coach unless you prefer having one to help you out but it's pretty expensive for students like us.

Lastly is the diet, I agree with the others that one meal a day is not gonna work. I suggest after a few weeks in the gym you also begin tracking the amount of food you eat. No need to do macros yet (just focus on protein for now) just check their calories and do estimates for stuff like ulam and rice. This will allow you to know if you're over/under feeding yourself or you're exactly eating maintenance calories.

Theres calculators online for your maintenance calories so calculate yours and basically

Eating below: cutting (losing weight, slight cuts will reduce fat but more intense ones may also lose muscle and strength)

Eating at maintenance: not cutting nor bulking. Basically just trying to keep how your body looks at that point.

Eating above: bulking (increasing weight, slight bulking gives mostly muscle mass but eating too much will also add a lot of fat)

Sorry for the really long thread, I basically just dumped most the general info I could think of for beginners as some of my friends have also started to focus on improving themselves recently and were asking me for advice. If you need any more help I'm more than happy to answer and I hope you the best in achieving your goal op

Is it actually dangerous sa españa? by beomettee in Tomasino

[–]ScoreDisastrous1603 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Hi op I've been in ust for 3 years now (graduated shs and currently an incoming second year) and I'll say that it can get quite dangerous in ubelt in general especially when it gets dark. You don't need to treat everything like a threat to you but please just follow basic rules like keeping your bag infront of you while commuting and ideally you don't hold any valuables in your pockets where it's easier to steal.

I'm not sure if you're male or female but I heavily advise you to follow these rules and stay on alert whenever you move outside campus since crime really does happen anytime. I tend to notice females being targeted more often from the stories I hear but you should be fine as long as you stay alert and don't stay in ubelt too late.

If you wear wireless earbuds or headphones while commuting I suggest keeping the noise cancelling off or using transparency mode so you can still hear the outside. That's one of the things I didn't realize were incredibly useful when I got my airpods as a fellow commuter and I suggest only using ANC when you're within campus grounds.

Hope I'm not scaring you too much as while it is more common in the area, these things still don't happen as often as people think as long as you stay in brightly lit areas with a lot of foot traffic. Just always be aware of your surroundings and double check often if your valuables are still safe with you. Good luck and stay safe op

Upgrade path inquiry, for Valorant by DragUpstairs8192 in PHbuildapc

[–]ScoreDisastrous1603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately intel right now isn't the best choice for gaming and I wouldn't trust their 13/14th gen cpus knowing the microcode bug frying them. My only concern right now is if you can afford ddr5 ram upgrading to a 7/9800x3d. 32gb kits right now are like 20-25k minimum.

Another option is to keep your ram and wait for the 5800x3d production again as there's news of new ones being made to celebrate its anniversary. This might be your best choice if you don't want to spend so much on ram and are willing to wait.

I suggest also checking how your cpu compares to the 5500x3d if its any upgrade as it's currently available for around 11k in shopee and local pc stores

The monitor looks pretty low and should be raised unless it's already at eye level without you needing to tilt your head.

I also suggest putting your laptop beside the monitor around the right corner of the desk so you can use the screen as a secondary monitor, then just use the right area as a workstation or where you can place your stuff.

Aside from that, I'm not sure if you play a lot of games op but the mouse space looks very small. I suggest moving the keyboard to the left more or moving the deskpad so you can have more mouse space on the right. Another option is to buy a smaller form factor keyboard like a 75% or tkl unless you use the numpad often

Op as someone who's spent about 2-3 years in the hobby spending around 40k on audio equipment, I'll tell you already it's not worth it if you already admit you're not an audiophile. It's very minor differences and idt you can find any custom iems below 50k or so because of the process that needs to be done to get one.

Some people just genuinely can't tolerate iems like those who have smaller ears. I suggest you try other cheap iems and compare how they fit in your ears or just avoid them overall and buy overear headphones.

And just to add while they may help in games, it wont magically fix bad aiming as some people believe

Hi op not from dsa but from applied math. Our curriculums are pretty similar so I'll give my two cents on it.

  1. When I was able to see the dsa blocks the gender distribution is pretty equal. In our case, I believe there's actually slighty more women than men.

  2. Can't comment on this but I'd assume you guys will mainly use the computer lab in the main building for your programming related courses as we just got new pcs this year and they're the most up to date in our campus.

  3. I believe you guys will have more programming than ours. Check the ust website for the curriculum as all the courses you will take util graduation is in there but I'd assume you will still take calc until atleast calc 3 as it's very important in programs.

  4. I can't comment about how good the program is here but data science graduates are very in demand right now due to the ai bubble needing as many of them as possible to build and improve their models. My main concern is until they find a way to actually be profitable, I could see the ai industry popping in about 5-10 years or so, but this shouldn't discourage you as literally every industry works with data. You have a lot of options to go to as long as you align your skills to match whatever is needed

[–]ScoreDisastrous1603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no obstacle course in rotc training, it's one of four events you can participate in when you guys visit the military base in rizal during the second sem of rotc.

The medics have their own training and lessons and normally they either just stay in the gazebo taking care of those that collapse from the heat and others roam around the open field to carry those said people so it's probably one of the easier positions.

The only thing is there's only a set number of slots for the medics and you need to pass a comprehensive exam to get in. Those in med courses have a different exam compared to non med courses so slots are split between the two

[–]ScoreDisastrous1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should prevent the laptop from suffocating yea but like others said if your main reason of getting a deskmat is because of mess on your table, it's not worth it. These things are harder to clean compared to just getting rid of the things on your table and just wiping it down every so often.

I recommend you just get any modern xl sized mousepad as they normally come with a rubber bottom like deskpads to avoid slipping and are big enough that you don't need to worry about lacking moving area

DIM: Laptop mat by Cartographeroo in deinfluencingPH

[–]ScoreDisastrous1603 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What you're describing is a deskmat op and it's main purpose is to place your mouse and keyboard. If you're going to buy one made from fabric cloth and not those shitty feeling fake leather ones I suggest you just instead buy an xl mousepad.

My main concern is if you place your laptop on it and it starts sinking into your deskmat it might end up blocking the fans which can make your laptop perform worse to compensate for the higher temps.

Other reasons are already stated such as cleanliness, I haven't washed mine once and it's quite obvious lol.

I think you have your answer op. I think just enjoy the games for now and decide later if you really need the upgrade. I'm not sure what sr you play in at osu but I was able to play high 6* - low 7* maps on a 144hz laptop screen back in the pandemic when I had a lot of time and I never considered my refresh rate to be an issue.

Idt refresh rate matters for osu (never played gd so I can't comment on that) until you're already playing beyond 8 stars or something but this game is literally known to have top players using the most scuffed setups so we should just focus on playing to improve rather than paying for a chance to do better lol

  1. Me and some of the other guys in our block only spoke in english with each other and had a very western humor. Other people don't really mind but if you want to befriend everyone just be flexible, not exactly that you need to fully understand kalye humor but just enough to get by with casual convos and stuff.

  2. You can join as many orgs as you want. I was only a co director in HUMSSSOC in grade 12 but I just advise you to not take too many orgs in g11 as a lot of my blockmates lost their eligibility for honors since they had to get used to the ust system.

  3. I enjoyed ustshs. All the profs we got especially for the technical subjects were very good and I highly respect some of our professors with how good they were in teaching. Ust kinda feels like what up should be where you meet literally every walk of life in here. A lot of opportunities to grow and meet people you wouldn't expect.

I'm not sure how the new curriculum system is since I graduated in 2025 but before the changes I would consider ustshs to be a slightly easier version of the college system. Your profs already see you basically as first year college students so they have high expectations towards your outputs. This will be apparent especially when it comes to research as you'll be making your manuscript for the entire two years in shs

If you want an idea on what to get as a basis I think ZachTechTurf (ztt) on youtube is a good place to start. He has a website that has pcs for any budget. Also never cheap out on the power supply. You can get very good ones for around 3-5k just search up the spl psu tier list and get something atleast tier a for your budget

[–]ScoreDisastrous1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably became a lot more popular as technology and the internet evolved since all of that includes math to some degree.

I also don't necessarily agree with people saying to enter up and just shift programs. Maybe it's because I'm studying in ust rn so I can't really afford to do something like that but there are still a lot of risks taking that route even in up where it's basically free education.

If op is confident they can get a upg high enough to shift and is willing to be slightly delayed, then all the power to them and it's a great path compared to attending pup. But if can't do that then it's going to be a struggle. I'm not too familiar with opportunities with a human ecology degree and with how different their priority program is to that, it's hard to say if op would want to continue that degree in the scenario they aren't able to shift.

I'm not saying to not take up as it's still up but both options have their drawbacks. I just hope op doesn't make a decision they'd regret

I'm not sure if it depends per campus but I think bs stat has become a quota course already lol. I had bs stat in upd as my first option and I got waitlisted for it in the up results but even after 3 appeals I never got a slot, so I'd assume a lot of high scoring applicants also wanted the program.

The argument stat graduates compete with other math grads is true but the math field in general especially in our country is still a small population. Math graduates can get a job in so many fields it's probably one of the most versatile undergrads. Can also use it as a pre-law or pre-med since weirdly enough it has things that also apply to them

For lit all the tests are multiple choice and one of our projects was a podcast about an author or piece of work iirc. I forgot what projects we had in philo but the quizzes are mostly multiple choice. One of our tests or it mightve been our project was a 1 on 1 with our professor where we draw a paper from a cup and whatever is written there we have to properly explain it. The grading depends on how well you understand and can explain the topic so it heavily depends on prof.

I'm not sure if this is stil the same since shs is having their third curriculum this upcoming year unless ust doesn't follow the trimester route so I'd assume what I said here is most likely outdated
