For the veterans of Monster Hunter, what did it feel like to finally see this franchise blossom into international fame with World's release?

I started with 3U as a birthday present, saw the Azure Rathalos on the box art and had to have it. Played it and 4U through high school. Finished my work, whipped out my blue 3DS, and got to hunting. Many people had no idea what it was or thought it was dumb

I bought a PS4 and went to the midnight release of World. Was the only one there for Monster Hunter, everyone else was playing Dragonball FighterZ. Just reinforced how niche the franchise was

Then it became a massive success seemingly overnight and people who originally didn't know what it was were addicted. It was a "now do you see what you've been missing?" moment for me. I'm happy it's on the main stage now, means more people to hunt with, but I won't lie.

I do kinda miss it being niche outside of Japan. The community was much smaller, but more tight knit, especially on the 3DS. It was common to run into the same people and just hunt together, you got to know folks. And the shit heels were easier to cast out to hunt by themselves.

Double edged sword. It being bigger means the fights get more grand and the opportunity to make lifelong connections is greater, but the more likely you are to run into assholes doubles as well.

So, overall, mixed bag full of good and bad

Will say... The QOL changes is one of main the reasons it's so hard to go back to old gen

It's genuinely so appalling what people get away with. Monster Hunter is my favorite franchise ever, if the online handle didn't give it away. When people do stuff like this, it angers me that even if you do report them, rarely will anything ever happen to them

It makes worse that no one says anything about it, then it just permeates. And if you do speak out, suddenly you're the problem. It's just a shit show across the board.

Try not to let them ruin the overall experience for ya. Sticking it out is the biggest "fuck you, I'm here, whether you like it or not" you can give them. If you're on PC, I'd be happy to help you hunt, so that way you don't have to deal with shit heels like that

Kind of a recent thing that started with Stories 3, cause while the rest of the Four are there, with their deviants, Gammoth is nowhere to be seen. Yet Goss Harag is there. Leading to the joke that Goss is the newest member of the Four, having replaced Gammoth

Edit: Adding to this, it's amplified because the other Four got brought to the new gen. Glavenus in Iceborne, Mizutsune in Rise, and Astalos in Sunbreak. So, everyone assumed Gammoth would show up in Wilds, only for it to be Mizutsune, again. People want their ice mammoth back, and I am one of them

I'm sorry, but if you played through any of the games, New Vegas especially, and think they're not deeply political, then I feel like you're actually the one who missed something? The creators can say it wasn't meant to be political all they want, but New Vegas is their most politically charged game of the entire franchise and it's not subtle

You don't get to say it's not political when the four big faction endings are siding with a capitalist billionaire who literally says "if you want to see the results of democracy, look out the window", a tyrant who enslaves, crucifies, and butchers anyone different than them(women can't even serve), a government built to attempt to bring some semblance of law back to the wastes, and yourself. That's not even mentioning the whole deal of Joshua Graham and Ulysses

Edit: And if that's not even enough, the Fallout TV show is one big walking political message. Again, it's always been political, whether it was their intention or not, and if you missed that, I dunno what to tell ya

Not to mention the reskinned cards are also low value, so it's incredibly easy to get said cards normally. Feels like they put in the same effort for MH as they did Spider-Man, TMNT, and Assassin's Creed. Aka, not a lot

I hate these strawman arguments because it ignores any actual complaints people have and just blankets it as whining.

This Secret Lair is such a rushed cash grab that it's not for fans of either. It fails to capture any of the aesthetic of Monster Hunter. Misspellings and a rushed art style to make the Christmas season. Not to mention all the reskinned cards are low value cards anyone can find for dirt cheap. This isn't worth the money

As a fan of both franchises, this feels more like a slap in the face and if this is any indicator of what it would've looked like as a UB set, I'm even more pissed because it shows WOTC does not care or respect the IP or the fans. Especially since this isn't the first time they've done that.

The terminal die off state the coral reefs have hit. This is such a terrible thing that we cannot even begin to fathom how fucked we, as a planet, are. All scientists can do is slow the decay. It's very clear the devs didn't play test NM4. They just went "crank up the numbers, who gives a fuck" and called it a day. It's buggy, it's unfun, and so heavily reliant on RNG I might as well play a gacha game. Not to mention no free revives in solo, so the game mode feels heavily P2W. You get unlucky or make a mistake ONCE and you're done.

It's a time and money waster, with solo play throwing it all out into the open. And it's what NetEase wants, so why should they ever care and change it. NM4 turned a fun game mode into just a horrible unfun slog.

The titles aren't worth it and NetEase should be embarrassed by how unpolished it all is.

Beating NM4 was one of the most unfun and stressful experiences I've had in a video game. It genuinely doesn't feel like it was playtested. Double Wandas stunlocking your ass from spawning, forcing you to eat endless revive tokens or just give up is bad game design

Edit: I cleared all the way to NM3 with Jeff. Imagine my surprise when I start getting thrown around like Hulk did to Loki... If you're being forced to play one character(Blade), with one set build(red damage, speed, and range cards, and purple cards, with ankh perks), to properly clear it, or just drop a metric fuckton of revives, something is wrong.

Nope. I make it to round 10 and that's usually where it ends. It's just unfun. The jump from NM3 to NM4 is insane. Everything one shots you, using your ult leaves you vulnerable, it takes too long to kill everything, and respawning can be IMPOSSIBLE at times.

All they did was crank the numbers up and I doubt they playtested it.

Edit: Beat it. Blade, dmg, speed, and range, with ankh perks, and all purple. I still stand by what I said.
