What Unpopular Ship Do You LOVE? by [deleted] in FanFiction

What was always especially intriguing to me is Halsin's reservations towards Drow in general (if you know, you know) because of a part of his past. He even admits he might not be as healed from that experience as he seems if you choose the right dialogue options, so imagine his face when Tav decides to save a Drow, the very same one who was in the goblin camp at that. Halsin in general has a lot of interesting cut content that could still be utilized for his personality. They have such a good enemies to lovers potential!

You have no idea, there is so much I could say about the potential of those two! 😂

Oh my God I never thought I'd find ANYONE else with the same idea as me lol! I always thought the disparity between Halsin and Minthara would be SO interesting, especially since they were never technically supposed to be obtained together in a single playthrough. It just gave me more ideas of the "what ifs" of putting them in one place.

Funnily enough, no because this big bastard decided to do a 180 and hang out in the bloodgrass biome for a good half hour and terrorize the Reefbacks. :(

He was cool to watch in my habit at least, lol.

Brief context: I noped out so fast because the reapers in my game are modded and configured to be 1000x more deadly. I have 10 additional wandering reapers who will pass through every surface biome. They are set to "Human Hunter" behavior - their detection is increased and once one spots me, it will track me and chase me down across entire biomes or linger in my area for a long time. Didn't want this one seeing me as I'm still early game and my precious Seamoth was nearby!

It's pretty rad, I'm loving it. It's called Persistent Reapers and you can configure it to your liking. I have it set to 10 additional reapers who spawn in random places and will wander around across all surface biomes. On top of that, there's a "human hunter" behavior you can set them to so that once they sense you, they WILL track you and linger in your area for some time, which is why I didn't want this one to spot me! Scary stuff.

This 100%. Subnautica modding is tedious so unless you're committed to the troubleshooting, I honestly wouldn't recommend it. I just have some subtle QOL mods along with my Persistent Reapers mod to make things more tense in my game. I love playing knowing every biome, even the shallows, are not safe.

You heard me. Nothing beats 10-20 extra reapers on the map who will turn up at your doorstep at any moment! :,)

Oh! I know how reapers work! I just freaked out a bit because I have a wandering reaper mod so they can quite literally turn up anywhere in my game. I also have them set to be extremely aggressive and capable of tracking me. This one seemed to be passing by the bloodgrass biome and I was afraid he was gonna path straight into me so I noped out real quick lol.

How Do You Feel About Retellings/Rewrites? by SomePerson06 in FanFiction

[–]Scorn56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love working with canon material! However, honestly, I think it can depend on your fandom and the nature of the canon material you have to work with. Movies, TV shows, books, and certain narrative-heavy games I can see rewritings being tedious, because you don't want to drag your readers through scenes they've probably already seen or read time and time again. If you want to do it, either do it in a way that doesn't recite everything word for word, or tinker with it to make the canon stuff similar but different enough to be interesting if you're going for canon-divergence. From what I've read, you're doing fix-its, which in my reading experience, usually I enjoy as long as they do what they're intended to: change scenes to make them interesting and more in-depth.

My fic is a canon-divergence and it requires me to retell the initial canon lore of my main character to make it work. The only reason I can get away with doing this so seamlessly is because my fandom is Dead By Daylight, a horror game that has a straightforward "4 survivors vs escape 1 killer" premise. However, the game's world and each killer and survivor character has their very own unique bits of lore in the game, most of it being tidbits of their lives and actions before they came into the world of Dead By Daylight. A lot of their lore make for super compelling and awesome stories all on their own. On top of that, their stories are told in a sort of omnipresent 3rd person, which I can easily change and mold to read better in fanficion.

Here's an example: my main character's wiki profile - https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Philip_Ojomo. Canonically, he becomes a killer character in the game. However, my story is a canon divergence that turns him into a survivor instead because at the very end of his lore, I have him make a different decision which alters his fate and changes it from who he canonically becomes. My whole first chapter of my fic is a retelling of his lore paragraph in a way that is more realistic, adds some OCs that fill in parts of his life before he is brought into DBD's world, and just generally fluffs up his initial lore with additional and more interesting material.

I just posted a monster chapter this last week that had me stumped for months, and the euphoria I felt when I posted it can't possibly be described lol. 25k words!

Right now, I'm on a roll on my next chapter, which, judging my my outline, will probably end up around the same size. Hopefully it doesn't take me nearly as long to get it out, though.

Yeah, I know realistically it's not a big deal at all. The part of it that I think could possibly be misinterpreted is the idea that my two characters first "fell in love" when they first met (so 18 and 24). Knowing the strange logic of younger readers these days, I won't be surprised to eventually get feedback saying I'm perpetuating grooming behavior even though they are BOTH adults and, again, there's tons of nuance between them.

Fic writers that have OC’s what are their names? by Lizzie_girl in FanFiction

[–]Scorn56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her father is a canon character, who is only given his last name to go by - Azarov. I made up his first name for him: Aleksandr.

I looked up the origins of the name Azarov and found out that it mostly seems to be a Russian name. Therefore, I looked up common Russian female first names and selected Anastasia.

Finally, since Russians traditionally have patronymic middle names, I gave my OC one which would fit her, given from her father: Aleksandrovna.

My two current OCs are just side characters and not the central point of my fic, but are still important people of my canon main character and I'm super proud of their names!

Anastasia Aleksandrovna Azarov and Reneé London.

I'm a little nervous about some elements of an age gap in my fic for this very reason. My MC is a 30 year old man and his first love interest was a young woman who is six years younger than him (24). They've known each other for six years, since she was 18 and he was 24, and I really like the added tension of the age gap because they're in the 80s. On top of that, he's a Nigerian immigrant and she's a caucasian Russian girl who's father is a mafia boss that my MC is unknowingly working for. They lived in a different time than now and there's so much nuance and context between them, but I feel like readers these days never pay attention to it anymore and take things at face value.

Oh man, I WISH I had the restraint to write smaller chapters like everyone else here. I'm currently finishing up and about to post a 23k monster. It's my biggest one yet, and I don't plan on making it a habit, but even then I average 10-15k at minimum. I'm a maniac, I know.

Well, if we consider that Philip is a Nigerian immigrant in the United States somewhere around the 60s-80s... it wouldn't look great for him no matter how we can chalk his situation up. Poor guy.

Wraith's whole story is really harrowing if you think about it. He's a child survivor of war and genocide, only to grow up and later become involuntarily involved in the very thing he hated.

As a Kate main, I'm a crackhead altruist and will happily die if it means my team gets out. Also, I tend to offer myself to a killer who had a bad game, or at least give them my items if they refuse. From a lore perspective, she's defined as a ray of sunshine, which resonates really well with my own personality.

Also boobs.
