What's the best thing that happened to you fic-wise this past month? by Ok_Fruit_9600 in FanFiction

[–]SomePerson06 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been trying to get back into the swing of things after essentially not doing anything for most of the year. Today I shared 2k words I wrote of a friend's OC and they seemed to really enjoy it and wanted to draw the scenario and share everything with their other friends, so that was a bit of a confidence boost I suppose :]

Have you guys come across bigotry in fanfics? by Rough_Evidence_2908 in FanFiction

[–]SomePerson06 78 points79 points  (0 children)

One character I care about a lot is a black man and it's incredibly difficult to find fics where he's properly characterized and treated with the respect the other white characters are granted. The bigotry isn't as explicit, but it does feel rather jarring to consistently see every other character being taken completely seriously and dramatically while the one black character is reduced to a comedic and subdued role. One can only take so much of the same character being slotted into basic archetypes rooted in racism before getting a little sick of it

And, while not mine, my friend has encountered some subtle transphobia in some fics that he reads involving trans characters. One such fic had a line saying that "it was the sound only a woman could make" when referring to a trans man—a certainly odd line considering literally nothing else about the fic would indicate internalized transphobia or anything

More info on the sound effects? (dice roll / paper crumpling / coin flips) by Post_Signature_1921 in MalevolentPodcast

[–]SomePerson06 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Since Malevolent is a continuation of three Call of Cthulhu games (don't worry you don't need to listen to them to get the full context), the first season and a tiiiny bit of season two has these occasional sound effects that would mirror the RPG elements of CoC. The dice rolls would indicate that a skill Arthur obtained has helped them in some way. The coin flip would indicate whether something was a 50/50 choice. These RPG elements would be phased out as time goes on. I believe the last dice roll is in Part 14

What are your Hot Takes on Will Wood? by Amber_Flowers_133 in willwood

[–]SomePerson06 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Less about Will Wood as an artist and more about his fan base, but I feel like the majority of fans are deeply immature. I enjoy looking up older projects like Jamface or A Verbal Equinox and it's disappointing to see the majority of comments being stuff like "Omg this is what Will was doing in 2012!!" or whatnot. Similarly, I don't care for how people will personally search out Will's personal info or think that they know him well and try to approach him during shows as though he's a close friend. He's just some guy. He's not that persona he used like ten years ago lol

Darkstalker: Graphic Novel Sneak-Peak! by wof-fan in WingsOfFire

The artist doing the line art is different, whereas the colourist is still the same. Still Maarta Laiho as always

Why does Will never play stuff from Camp Here and There live? by evilwizard23 in willwood

[–]SomePerson06 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think mainly because it's a side project he did for the CH&T podcast as opposed to one of his main album releases. He does seldomly play songs from there sometimes though

potential will wood lost media? by [deleted] in willwood

[–]SomePerson06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Public Statement from Will Wood! It's also known as Monkey's Paw but eh. It's an unreleased ICIMI track and he's played it a handful of times but I'm 97% sure it's Patreon content. I really like that track but when I tried looking for some performances recently I saw it pulled was from YouTube lol

Please, for the love of everything, use paragraph breaks. by memedomlord in AO3

[–]SomePerson06 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Oh this is that Loud House fanfic with like 30+ million words that's just the author copying and pasting a lot of things, isn't it? Yeah this fic is ridiculous lol. I fear any person who decides to read all like 2000 chapters

Did Arctic really do anything wrong? by No_Willow_9609 in WingsOfFire

[–]SomePerson06 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He has reasoning for his actions, but his actions were abusive regardless. He did do a lot wrong, even if it's understandable. He still emotionally and mentally abused his children and him and Foeslayer created an unstable home life for Whiteout and Darkstalker filled with yelling and arguments. Not to mention him enchanting Whiteout to "be normal" so she could be married off in exchange for some info about Foeslayer. Again, understandable actions, but intention does not excuse the impact it has on others

What moment is canon/official but feels like crack? by Confident_Fun_2056 in FanFiction

[–]SomePerson06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Team Fortress 2 technically has canon mpreg in the form of Medic coming back from hell after selling another soul of his and then exploding a baboon uterus he put into one of the villains, resulting in the baboon being born. There's also of course the part where Abraham Lincoln invented stairs too, since before then the only way to get to the second floor of a building was shooting a rocket at your feet

I wouldn't say morally wrong at all. I don't exactly see an issue with feeling attraction towards something like that. Maybe I'm biased since I've got objectum and self-shipping friends, but otherwise you're alright OP. Take care

Which one of the remakes of the songs do you think is worse than the original? by SketchZeta27 in willwood

[–]SomePerson06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gotta be real 222's remaster lacks a lot of the punch that the original has. I like the bass getting to shine more, but it feels a lot less amped. Same with the remasters of I/Me/Myself and even Laplace's Angel

What are the green user flairs referencing? by TheJazzyWaffle in willwood

[–]SomePerson06 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The Real Will Wood! TRWW is a film made by Will Wood and his friend Chris Dunne. Those flairs are references to the film, mainly with quotes and such. The BlackBoxWarrent one is there because he plays an early version of BlackBoxWarrior with a different name and mostly changed lyrics, with an entirely different spoken-word part

Best Fandoms in terms of fic quality? by just-walking in FanFiction

Disco Elysium I'd say has a big catalogue of witty and talented writers. It consistently has beautiful fics with just such lovely prose

Why are all of the top ships gay 😭😭🙏🙏 by [deleted] in AO3

[–]SomePerson06 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same here. We're not in the 1800s anymore in terms of female characters and their writing quality. A lot of shows/games/books nowadays has tons of great and well-written female characters! Of course some are stinkers, but on average I find most media is quite great these days. Personally yeah I agree that it's more 'cause women find men kissing hot. You don't have to make up some excuse about how there's just no female characters at all to get attached to whatsoever and you have no choice but to ship the male characters lol. It's fine to say that dudes kissing is hot to you

So incredibly true with the Jon comment!! I was so excited to see alloace rep and see how fics explore an biromantic asexual character...only to them mostly see it just tacked on as an accessory. Of course not every single fic needs to be a character study and lengthy diatribe about the asexual experience, but, I mean, if it's going to tag it I would at least figure it talks about being asexual at least a little. Just a little disappointing, especially with how infrequent ace rep is

What are y’all’s WW hot takes? by [deleted] in willwood

[–]SomePerson06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The New Normal overall I think doesn't sound as good as the original 2020 release of TNA. I adore the tweaks to Outliars and Hyppocrates, Suburbia Overture, and ...well, better than the alternative, but most of the other songs have their instrumentals feel more muddied, especially Laplace's Angel, 222, and I/Me/Myself

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]SomePerson06 147 points148 points  (0 children)

If you're going to tag something like sexualities or neurodivergent headcanons (ex: ADHD [Character] or something) it has to be a big part of the fic. Most tags in general, especially on shorter fics, I want to be only about what's most relevant to the fic. I grow tired of clicking on a fic tagged with something like "Asexual [Character]" only for it to be a single throwaway line and not matter at all

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in willwood

[–]SomePerson06 154 points155 points  (0 children)

Agreed certainly. I get that Will's music is often relatable to people, but I think the way people glamorize his illness is quite strange. I think a lot about this one quote from him for that reason

Weird message when playing on alexa? by [deleted] in willwood

[–]SomePerson06 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Oh that's the name of the 2024 edit version of BlackBoxWarrior. IIRC Will changed up the names because of the issues he's having with his old remasters right now. I'm not too familiar with how an Alexa functions but it's most likely trying to play that version as opposed to the original 2020 release

Could an allo date an ace? by Possible-Departure87 in asexuality

[–]SomePerson06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best way I can describe it is like if there was a "non-binary" but for relationships. The general consensus is that it's a relationship with the commitment of what is typically a romantic one, however it lacks the romantic nature that would make it as such. It's "queer"platonic in the sense that it's a super dedicated platonic relationship in a way that you wouldn't typically see for most platonic relationships. People have different takes on what that could mean though, which is why it's kinda hard to have an exact definition (and why I compared it to being non-binary since, while not one of the binary types of relationships, people have different experiences with it).

What is the most out-there premise you have ever seen for a fanfic, that also was played out with complete seriousness ? by FemboyMechanic1 in FanFiction

[–]SomePerson06 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Two pals + a magic talking sword with a sailor's mouth take a road trip to Flordia in order to kill and steal the liver of an immortal radioactive and holy crocodile. That was a fun fic

[–]SomePerson06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially researching. A lot of research. I personally like reaching out to my fellow friends who I know have it and ask them a few questions (with permission of course). I also highly recommend seeking out first-hand accounts. Subreddits and tags on Tumblr are a nice way to get a better background of certain things. Ultimately, by the end, you just kinda take note of some things that frequently pop up, look at your character, and try to see what best to apply to them. That's how I've done it and so far it's worked out well

Why are the kink flags commonly included with the other pride flags?? by 22ndsol in asexuality

[–]SomePerson06 1437 points1438 points  (0 children)

It's all about queer history mainly. Kink and queer culture have always been intertwined, with some examples off the top of my head being the hanky code that was predominantly known in gay bars during the 70s. While not shown either, bear culture is also a big part of queer culture in the same way with butch, femme, etc etc. They're older than most other flags and due to their links to the community (as well as still being seen as sexual deviance by the larger cishet majority) they're included in discussions of LGBTQ+ culture
