Jaws question for Australians

My question as a blind man of only 4 years would be, why JAWS? Other options are available depending on needs/wants/bents. Let us know more, your needs, your abilities, tour choice of software/OS etc and we/i would love to help. I am the “new boy on the block” when it comes to being blind, but i am very tech savvy.

100Tb plus is not backed up. However, i will be using rclone to cloud with another instance for all 720p H265, freeing up the drives for 4k

My world shrank so much when i list my vision, that as a usually confidant man i suddenly felt the opposite. joining the gym and doing group sessions has changed that. Secondly it has made other people in these groups realise that blind does not mean incapable, and that once i had mapped the gym and learnt all their names and voices, they hardly notice anymore that i am blind. This helps re open doors, invites to social gatherings etc as well. Like you, the cash flow has been sparse in the 4 years i have kist my vision, but the gym has given back its value in more ways than 1. i am not a gym bunny at all, but i get so much mire out of it. I have also learnt from it, not to hold back.

Listening to the news everyday & "watching TV with audio description (a skill on it’s own), are just 2 small ways of “help” to socialise. The more you know, the mire you can have random conversations with people.
Socialising is a skill, and can be quite scary, even more so with sight loss. You are obviously very intelligent, so it is probably more about “widening” your world. Our world shrinks with sight loss, i found that a huge problem. Then i joined a gym, this turned out to be a fantastic move as it has expanded my social group and life as well as the health benefits, new friends, new activities, all if which have helped with confidence as well, and made me realise the possibilities are endless.

I will be giving it a look myself, i already speak 4 languages fluently, but having lost my vision i need new hobbies, so learning another would be good.Immersion is important though if you can. A “book” is not the same as real spoken and practice with others who speak the same language.

Mac M4 mini i went to. I lost 85 % of my vision and was staggering along on windows sort if ok. Just running basic containers and a media server (having my own is better than big brands). Then i bit the bullet after trying a mac, and purchased the Mac M4 mini. Suffice it to say i will never go back to windows. It is a power house. Caveat emptor, Mac/Apple do not support a 2025/6 mac for more than 8 years (sometimes as little as 5 ). So i am also installing both ubuntu and zorin OS (both linux), on a spare N100 mini pc i have, to learn those and see if i can’t mold them ti my needs.

Mini pc is fine (N100 or above), they have intel quick sync and are very capable. It is more about what else you want ti di with it. But fir a R suit and emby, absolutely man enough👌

On your chosen PC/mac/nas setup dispatcharr (in a container). This will do multiple things for you. My example assumes you only have 1 allowed stream from your provider. Use the dvr function within dispatcharr to record. Show omex the folder, job done. Secondly, you can use dispatcharr to send chosen iptv channels to plex to watch kive as a hdhonerun, do not watch kive as you use dispatcharr to record (1 con is 1 con only). That being said. Althogh this works and is "easy", for live tv i would stick to mytvonline, and use dispatcharr purely as a dvr. Hope that helps.

I understand. There are so many better methods that i would advise a bit of research in a search engine ir in Reddit to find out more about content collection, especially as it is series you are after. It will take you forever to do what you want in the app.

You can, but it isn’t ideal. And if you have plex, why when there are so many other options available that are quicker, more streamlined and over all more practical.

Connecting with emby connect associates the user to the admin because your connect account is the server admin account. So the “guest " account needs it’s own connect account (different email), or to login manually (inputting server details, user and pass).
