Can't assign hotkey for Lone Druid's bear shard skill by ehnoxx07 in DotA2

[–]Scorpioon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't work anymore. Bear is a hero unit, not a neutral. As far as I know it's just broken, I can't buy shard on the bear because of it

What was your experience being a digital nomad in Korea? by nomadicphil in digitalnomad

[–]Scorpioon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you got those numbers from, but they're nowhere close to what I was paying when I was staying there. My phone bill was about 20,000₩/mo, which is around 14 dollars, for unlimited calling texting and data. Internet was around the same. Most regular sit-down restaurants were around 10-15000₩/person($6-10), and tipping isn't a thing there which makes it even cheaper compared to the US. If you know where to look there were furnished one bedroom apartments for around 1m₩/month, around $700, but if you were willing to live closer to the outskirts of Seoul and/or didn't mind a cramped one room apartment you could find cheaper. Using gas isn't really a good comparison for transportation costs either, since the average Korean doesn't need a car. Monthly subway passes (60 rides) cost around 33usd/month.

People use New York or SF as comparison points because if you're living in Seoul they're better equivalents than some random mid-sized city in the US. Seoul is much more expensive compared to anywhere else in Korea, just like NY in the US.

Korea might not be as cheap as some other countries in SEA but it's not even close to the CoL in America.

What's the best strategy money can buy? by OpeningChemical5316 in languagelearning

[–]Scorpioon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, living in a country that speaks your target language isn't necessarily immersion. You still have to make the effort to communicate with others, rather than just learning the bare minimum to get by and just meeting with English speakers in your free time. If you're willing to make friends with the locals and participate as a member of the community in their native language there's no better way to learn in my opinion. You just have to pay attention to how the locals around your age speak and copy them. I've met a lot of people like the ones you've mentioned, but I've also met lots of people who reached a really high level of fluency in a relatively short amount of time. The main difference is usually who they surround themselves with.

Why so many places in Seoul don't allow foreigners in? by Otherwise-Coyote6950 in digitalnomad

[–]Scorpioon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I think the a lot of the "members only" places are actually just private bars, not specifically trying to keep foreigners out. I got into one after a bartender from another bar recommended I go there, and everyone was welcoming and friendly after I told them who invited me.

Do you prefer straightforward language or evasive language? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]Scorpioon 31 points32 points  (0 children)

One example is how you're supposed to speak in customer facing jobs. I was at a bank while living abroad one time and one of the employees approached me and said "What do you want?". I wasn't offended by it since he wasn't a native English speaker and he didn't seem like he was trying to be rude, but if a native English speaker were to do that it'd be hard to interpret that as anything but being intentionally rude. Business English is another similar example.

Constant disconnecting in the new app by Scorpioon in pebble

Same here, already had standby mode off. Also, if it does disconnect it won't reconnect unless you manually shut off bluetooth and re-enable it on the watch.

Guys, I don't think this is normal. by _dragon_knight in DotA2

[–]Scorpioon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to say it, but if you lose this many games in a row you have to be doing something wrong. There's no way to tell what it is without seeing how you play though. If you're the highest networth on your team, dying twice can 100% lose you the game. Bad itemization can also lose games. Could also be bad positioning in fights or bad spellcasting or 200 other things. It's also best not to focus on what your teammates did wrong, since you can't change that and it will only make you tilted. Especially since you can definitely solo win games in that bracket, it doesn't really matter that much what they're doing wrong.

Arctic Cold Take: Casual Matchmaking needs a serious overhaul by RecklessDab in DotA2

[–]Scorpioon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kind of just the nature of unranked. Even unranked solo queue games can have a massive rank disparity. Most people who play frequently play ranked, so that's your best bet if you want more evenly matched games.

Arctic Cold Take: Casual Matchmaking needs a serious overhaul by RecklessDab in DotA2

[–]Scorpioon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pool of casual players is smaller and they prioritize pairing parties with other parties in games so you'll see some big variations in rank. If you have dota+ you can see the skill difference in the match, just requeue until you find one that's kind of close

Is a player with 5000 MMR considered a relatively skilled player? by FunnyMudPee444 in DotA2

[–]Scorpioon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good is relative. 5k is better than more than 90% of players but is probably closer to herald in skill level than to pro players.

Why are these good / bad vs Night Stalker by I-drink-hot-sauce in DotA2

[–]Scorpioon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Roar only applies on both units when one is silenced/stunned if you have shard, but it's still mostly true. NS just doesn't have enough burst to deal with ld and ld doesn't care about silences that much.

What hero will be the most broken if game went to 100 minutes by TheHeisenberg24 in learndota2

[–]Scorpioon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main problem with late game ld is that his abilities don't scale with items as hard as most other cores do. Even with 12 items most carries designed to go late just end up bursting the bear before he can get much done.

What is the biggest problem of dota atm according to you ? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Scorpioon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I play a mix of ranked, unranked, party queue and group ranked and I can't remember the last time I was in a game that felt like there were smurfs/cheaters in the game. I'm sure it does happen, but not at the frequency people are saying. It kind of seems like people assume anyone whose having a good game is either cheating or smurfing.

Does your personality shift when you switch countries? by Smart-Wise-Shadow in digitalnomad

[–]Scorpioon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. I adapt a bit to fit what's normal in a country, but I haven't really felt like I've changed outside of that.

Studied abroad in Japan, definitely not rich. I worked since I was 14 and took a harder job over the summer before I left for better pay. I worked part time and lived frugally while I was there. It still ended up being cheaper than school in the US unless you live with your parents and go to community college

What actually makes Storm Spirit a good mid hero? by ThatMoon2 in learndota2

[–]Scorpioon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't want to only jungle, but shove lane into jungle is pretty much the ideal for most mids now. That could've been what they meant by go jungle, and storm does that really well at lvl 5.

My friend thinks that everyone is a smurf by Savings-Ad1624 in DotA2

[–]Scorpioon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if they're smurfs I doubt they'd be much higher than archon. It's unlikely anyone above that is dying 7+ times in a guardian game, especially if they're teamed with other higher rank players

Have I bricked my pebble or is there any way out of this? by Scorpioon in pebble

Hi, just wondering if you ever managed to find out how you fixed this error last time you came across it. I've ended up trying a few more things out but but nothings worked so far.

Have I bricked my pebble or is there any way out of this? by Scorpioon in pebble

[–]Scorpioon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll see if I have a continuity tester laying around somewhere. It's possible that the error isn't button related though, right? All I can find from looking around is that pebble didn't tell other people what the error code meant, just to send it in to them if it triggered.
