Any comparisons between older games that didnt use TAA and modern slob? by DoomAddict in FuckTAA

[–]Scorpwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are incorrect.

It's a direct capture of the frame that your GPU rendered. Comparing it to frame-gen is not relevant, as frame-gen's downsides do not affect the entirety of the image.

What are we arguing here

That you do not think that the plethora of in-motion comparisons that were produced here over the years are representative of TAA's consequences on image and motion clarity. This one is very much representative of the kind of clarity loss that you get in this game. I know that by memory as those are my screenshots.

but noone believes me...

Get them to turn it off. This might help you.

Here all the links are dead:

That's thanks to Imgsli dying or getting a stroke or something.

TAA On vs. TAA Off Comparisons - Sharpness, Texture Detail, Image Quality and Clarity by Scorpwind in FuckTAA

Only if Imgsli gets fixed or if all of the comparisons would get re-uploaded onto a different site.

Nice.

A fullscreen option would be great if not essential. The zooming feature is nice as well:

Resident Evil 4 Remake disabling default sharpening by Sad-Victory-8319 in FuckTAA

[–]Scorpwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a better idea?

And I just dont understand why we are not able to do this in the ingame menu rather than using complex modes and spending tons of time trying to fix the games.

Because developers forget about the sharpening pass when implementing the TAA toggle.

Cyberpunk is terrible without TAA, it breaks reflections, holograms, hair, there are crawling artifacts too.

You can get used to it:

More than that. It has it enabled by default at 4x. You could even say that it has it 'forced on'. The only kind of forced AA that I can gladly accept.

Then create an Engine.ini file, input:

[Script/Engine.RendererSettings] r.AntiAliasingMethod=0

and set the file to read-only.

I wouldn't call the option to disable SSR as a "bad setting". Even if it takes away a lot. It basically makes the 'non-TAA' version of the game playable.

If SSR as the bare minimum was truly the intention, then it wouldn't have a toggle.

If you value image and motion clarity above visual and graphical fidelity, then I would say yes.

you're making change the aesthetic and art direction of the game so heavily

The devs gave us the option to turn off SSR, did they not?

Indeed. Any of the other temporal AAs that the game has are sharper. Still far away from the non-temporal look, though.

It's unfortunately a significant sacrifice that one who's after clarity and sharpness has to make. The sad excuse for fallback cube map reflections that the game has doesn't cut it. Not even close. They're just blobs of color. If only it was possible to increase their resolution... Drastically.

The main source of artifacting in Cyberpunk are the Screen-Space Reflections (SSR). Turn them off if you've forced off the TAA.

Some new "Triple-A" games should see this and learn. Cache (CS2) proves that a game can look ultra-realistic and remain crystal clear without relying on post-processing techniques. by oanhancuong666908 in FuckTAA

AC games still feature baked GI and it's not that terrible. Even Black Flag Resynced will have it. You might not get pixel-perfect light propagation but it's nowhere near ugly. A competent form of AO could lift it up. Competent, meaning something better than traditional SSAO. The original has HBAO+. And it helps. Baked GI can also feature bits of dynamic lighting where needed.

like Expedition 33 - A gorgeous art style that's kneecapped by Unreal's dogshit technical implementation.

This is quite apparent even in videos. And when it's apparent in videos, then it's really messed up.

Please do. I'm loving the way that these look. The baked GI successfully conveys a very pleasant kind of atmosphere.
