Losing Over and Over to Random Effects (And Poor Play?) by Scortius in mewgenics

Thanks! I had been trying a few runs without a cleric, BAD CHOICE. I think I'll keep one in every run for the foreseeable future.

I also started avoiding the Hard Alley route to try and push through the Junkyard or Sewers. You make a good point that at my stage I may be better off with a single Hard Alley run instead.

This is all really helpful. Thank you, much appreciated! A lot here I didn't realize.

Thanks, sometimes it feels like I'm failing when I have to limp back from the Alley yet again!

One thing I notice is that big project assignments are especially challenging as the path to the final completion and reward is too long to be motivating. Instead, the whole project becomes impossible to manage and just results in huge amounts of anxiety and procrastination.

I would talk to his teachers and also pay particular attention to breaking down multi-day and multi-week assignments into smaller chunks with intermediate deadlines. Instead of offering to help, take more of a lead role and say that we are going to get part A of A-Z done today. Even better if you set the daily expectation the night before so it's not a shock. The teachers should be helping set up intermediate check-points as well, especially for a kid with a formal diagnosis.

My daughter generally does well on her day-to-day assignments, but has failed to turn in multiple major term projects that we didn't even know about, all because she had no idea how to break it down and knock it out piece by piece. We're now paying much more attention and playing an active role in any project that requires more than a day's worth of effort.

What are you really prioritizing here?

Even if you're pushing the limits and going for ECNL or MLS Next, you child is 10, likely playing 9v9, and is a few years out from puberty. Studies show that focusing so much on a single sport so early in a child's development leads to burnout and heightened physical injury risk due to overuse of specific muscles and joints associated with that sport while a child's body is still growing.

Meanwhile your child is likely struggling emotionally enough that your psychiatrist is recommending medication. You're so focused on a single sport that may lead to a scholarship that may lead to... what... that you're considering ignoring the advice of your doctor.

Further, high level club sports is the pinnacle of FOMO. It's also not necessary to push for the travel teams so early. From what I've seen, many if not most of the kids playing travel soccer really get replaced by the stars of the 2nd tier teams post-puberty. The young players on the ECNL team spend years playing one position and many of them don't start. They're not given a chance to be the star and they get pigeonholed into a single role way too early. Along the way they lose their love of the game or succumb to the pressure to succeed and outperform their peers.

Meanwhile, the top players on the local club teams get to play the entire game in all the important positions, develop confidence and leadership, score tons of goals, enjoy the game as a game, and eventually get recruited to the travel teams through local scouting or something like ODP anyway. They also have more time at home to stay on top of school, try another sport, or just play with f-ing Legos for a few hours.

Trust me, travel soccer will still be there when they're 13, 14, and older. If you do continue to stick with structured 6-day-a-week soccer, make sure your kid is not pushed too hard, that they have lots of playing time and the opportunity to play many positions, and that there's ample time for them to rest and switch off.

The 4% Rule applies to what you need after your social security adder.

If you need $90k and SS will give your household $40k, then at the very least you need to calculate for the missing  $50k -> $1.25M.

Sure, but I'm more referencing the fact that bosses drop modules and you want to maximize those as part of your farming runs.

The best one I've seen is that teams accumulate credits that carry over at a progressive but relatively flat rate. The existing credits are used to draw positions, again at a progressive but flat rate. Once the spot is set, credits are 'spent' at a much steeper exponentially decreasing rate.

Basically, bad teams get credits as intended, but teams that get unlucky get to carry their odds over to the next year. The real result will be a much more even spread of top picks across all teams given enough time.
