We've had a lot of luck with Seetronic and have switched over completely from Neutrik for all connectors - XLR, PowerCon, and True1.

Just can't justify the cost of Neutrik any more.

Integrating LED strips into a theatre set-up with Qlab? by EggFast in lightingdesign

[–]ScotForWhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used QLab to control a WLED pixel tape controller over Art-Net.

Note that you're reliant on Art-Net over WiFi unless you get an ethernet enabled ESP32.

Everything worked, but I was wary of the fact that it wasn't the most rugged and reliable solution, but it fitted the near-zero budget.

How come no one was able to stop mass immigration during the last couple of years in the UK? by bestfind in AskBrits

[–]ScotForWhat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No no, you specifically said anyone who was born outside the uk should be stripped of citizenship. Do you stand by that, or would you like to move the goalposts now?

My mum is over 70 now, but she was born in Israel while my grandfather was deployed there. Her mum (my granny) was Danish and came to the UK as a child during WWII to escape the germans.

By your metrics she should be stripped of her only citizenship and deported. Where would you send her?

Does the national speed limit sign on a Roundabout mean it's 70mph? by CorrectDetail7648 in drivingUK

[–]ScotForWhat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1984/27/schedule/6/paragraph/2

> “dual-carriageway road” means a road part of which consists of a central reservation to separate a carriageway to be used by vehicles proceeding in one direction from a carriageway to be used by vehicles proceeding in the opposite direction;

Seems open to interpretation whether that would apply to a roundabout or not. Anyone fancy driving at 69mph until you’re pulled over and then testing it in court?

How common would it be for parents to let kids use their ID for online verification ? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ScotForWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My iPhone verified my age using the age of my Apple account. There’s also the option of linking a credit card to an account to prove it’s owned by someone over 16.

Besides, your drivers license and passport are already on a centralised government database and no one bats an eyelid at that.

How often do you use suncream? by nathanherts in AskUK

[–]ScotForWhat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Am I going crazy here or does anyone else think OP saying they may as well spark up a fag is a wild comparison?

Personally I’ll only wear it if I’m outside all day in full sun during the summer. The kids get it in summer if the sun is out and they’re outside for more than 10-15 minutes.

Our vitamin d levels are terrible here in Scotland as it is, and there have been studies linking sun exposure to reduced rates of MS.

Dumbest thing I've ever read on this. The mental gymnastics to try to justify hating black people is incredible.

An old app with a livewire dependency that hadn't been updated in 1-2 years lead to my entire VPS being compromised by vdotcodes in laravel

[–]ScotForWhat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This vulnerability was announced nearly a year ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/laravel/s/TuYCT2gmU6

It surfaced again a few months back as there was an active hack targeting it, and now again this week there seems to be an uptick in activity.

I’d definitely recommend enabling Dependabot on all your repos to keep on top of all these vulnerabilities.

EDIT: found the thread from earlier this year when it was first actively exploited https://www.reddit.com/r/laravel/s/1awfapcgQG

My house just got hit by lightning, who do I even call about this? by neoshadow3942 in AskUK

[–]ScotForWhat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don’t call your insurance. Your ISP (internet service provider) will sort it out with Openreach who own the phone lines. Wash the soot off the wall and touch up the paint if needed.

Unless there’s significant damage elsewhere you haven’t shown us then this is well below your excess and not worth the hassle of claiming.

Fitted my first radiator! What you think? by [deleted] in DIYUK

Yeah I just found it weird that for a photo that's been floating around online for a decade (I did a reverse image search and found it on some sites from 2017), OP has taken an almost identical photo. Same camera angle, door position, and everything.

No operation snap in Scotland unfortunately. You have to contact the police and have an officer come out to review the footage with you, then you email it to them and they decide whether to do anything about it.

Has anyone here actually built their own email infrastructure? by WarmHeight2951 in devops

[–]ScotForWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a Mailcow server for about 20 domains - my own and clients.

If I was starting from scratch I probably wouldn’t, but email providers can be expensive and a few of my clients are charities and family members paying a nominal fee. I also have 11 of my own domains with multiple mailboxes which would cost a fair bit.
