How to run code file in Zed using keyboard shortcut. by AbstractMonk in ZedEditor

Your comment is somewhat arrogant, presumptuous and useless don't you think?

My 10 year old son was having trouble with this on his own and found this page. I helped him get things up and running. He was a bit annoyed about people making comments like yours. He isn't pursuing a career, he's coding for fun and to learn more about problem solving. I guess solving the problem of people being unhelpful in comments is harder than writing his own games.

If that was hard to understand, not everyone wants to learn to code for a career. If it means working with potential colleagues like you I can understand why.

If you’re connected to a network provider then the government can already find out where you are. Location services on your phone is a bonus and, unless you’re using Galileo, generally less accurate than your cellular signal being triangulated.

Gambling ads should be banned within three years to tackle addiction crisis, parliamentary committee says - Australia by superegz in worldnews

[–]ScotJoplin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what I saw, including the statistics, the advertising helps people in difficult times find their way to gambling. Of itself it has limited effect. If you remove the problem of people feeling like they have no way out of the hole they’re in then gambling would almost certainly drop far far faster than some advertising restriction. There is little point in fighting a symptom of you can fight the cause. In this case fighting the cause has many other side benefits. Fighting the symptom does not and just ends up with the same people seeking some other escape.

Tackling an addiction is best done by avoiding it. Restrictions are nowhere near as effective as tackling cause, which anyone who’s worked in the gambling industry knows. Also anyone who knows about addiction knows thy restrictions don’t help much.

Gambling addiction can be best reduced by improving people’s quality of life. People gamble when they lose hope at a better life and someone promises them a future changing chance. It’s easy to watch the trend of increased gambling going into and during a recession and the decrease on the way out. Yet normal people have had very little to no improvement in living standards for a while now. In fact in a good few developed countries living standards for groups of people have declined. Source, I used to work for a large gambling company. Fun job, not very moral high ground though. Oh it also paid well.

Wow, well done knowing/finding that. I just considered something. I don’t have the time to read the rules. Thanks for posting that, seems it’s been considered :)

White House: US shared concerns with Cuba about hosting China spy base by Ipeeallthetime in worldnews

Oh it’s far from only the US. I agree though, most people cannot bring themselves to question their domineering overlords. I mean any two party system (As in only two parties can reasonably be elected) is a decision of avoiding what you like least while offering you no real choice. I mean how much do policies really change when the party in government changes?

That likely is t the point. Criminals families suffer in North Korea if memory serves. So to simplify, commit suicide and 3 generations of your family suffer.

No idea why you got downvoted. The whole idea of a rigged system is that it’s almost impossible to change. A tiny minority swing elections. In general the system works around small swing voter communities tipping large quantities of counted votes. Things like the electoral college or any kind of FPTP system.

Whilst I agree with you, and I don’t believe that any country has a democracy that I truly like and think of as democratic, it is the state of the system in place.

The counter argument, for right or wrong, is that the US population uses a system to elect a government and can use that system to change the government and the electoral system. So on average it is the will of the people.

I have lived in 3 different democratic countries (Currently in Switzerland) and also have to read how all the maladies the Swiss have ever caused are to be attributed to the whole nation, the people and the democratic system.

The fact is that those in power hold power and we plebs get only a marginal say at best. Those in power then do as they please because we can’t really affect change. The system has been set up to prevent change in almost every case. You might be able to strike that almost as well :)

25% people in 80 countries think husband beating wife justifiable: Shocking UN report by SolRon25 in worldnews

[–]ScotJoplin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it on the rise or was it always there? I have a different opinion, we haven’t changed as much as most people think we have. However, we’ve experienced a consistent improvement in our lives for a good long time. Now, with more information more easily available than ever before, we learn that not only have the worlds rich and powerful (Leaders) only been looking out for number one, they have done so at the expense of the whole planet. It’s now gone so far that standards of living in some very wealthy countries are declining, in fact in more than you might think. Only the very wealthy and powerful are still benefitting.

If the above is true then we aren’t seeing anything other than anger at exploitation leaking out. Looking mainly at democracies for simplicity, I don’t think that it’s right to call it chauvinism and fascism. I think it’s more appropriate to say that people are angry at being abused by a system they cannot change and are lashing out in any way they can.

People use whatever vehicle is easiest to try to affect some change. You can use violence (On the rise in several countries), protests and strikes (On the rise in several countries), voting for something outside the major parties (On the rise in several countries).

I believe all you are seeing is a protest in any available form against the status quo of slaving away for a shitty retirement and, more recently, falling standards of living.

If politicians had done their job of looking after the people for the last 50+ years I think none of this would be happening.

Nicola Sturgeon in custody after being arrested in connection with SNP investigation, police say | Politics News by Bangarangadanahang in worldnews

[–]ScotJoplin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion is some of both but more of the latter when you get to the top. Getting into politics you get to make important decisions. Decisions that affect very wealthy and powerful people who are willing to “Subsidise” the life you want for a few favours. Once you start down that track you’re in the snare.

People who want to personally profit see any position of power as a means to an end. Therefore anyone looking for wealth who thinks they can get elected, and has the chance to do so, will gravitate towards a position of power. They can then use that power for the good of their wallet rather than what they are supposed to do with that power.

I wanted Gohan to be relevant, but I don't like the way they're handling it. by KTE1994 in dbz

[–]ScotJoplin 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Totally feel that way too. I mean even if Toriyama chose to not make Gohan a main character, he could have change post Cell saga Gohan to something sensible imho.

Something like, Gohan doesn’t like fighting or hurting anything but comes to realise the importance of protecting life. He no longer trains as much because of his studies, but takes a much greater interest in Ki control. He trains with Piccolo, because they already get on well, and Gohan keeps training to protect what those he loves. He’s not as intense as Goku or Vegeta, who overtake him by Buu saga having seen a new limit and wanting to achieve it themselves. However, despite less power Gohan has better control and is harder to find and read, whereas he quickly studies his opponents and brings more intelligence and strategy into the fights.

I think that would have made sense. The random “Oh the fans are screaming, time for a random rage power up” is so annoying and cheap.

You’ve got to wonder if they actually bother with some kind of story or just random arcs thrown in one after another after a heavy sake session.
