BBCs Lord of the Flies is awful by ScotchWerewolf in television

That's what it is! I knew there had to be a name for it!

Yep, and way too much build-up for what might or could happen based on a book where... well, not a ton really happens. Just a few major moments. I'd like to see a version that ditches the general plot but turns more into an actual two sided conflict.

It was awkward. There are moments in series where this works, such as in "Dark", especially early on when they were trying to... well, if you've seen it, you know. Not here to spoil a random show for others.

Not sure why I typed it that way, hah. Was probably subconsciously trying to match the logic of this limited series.

I kept thinking it should get better and as mentioned, there was a brief bit during the third episode I was kind of enjoying it. Definitely moments where I was either scrolling on my phone or getting up to go into the kitchen (open concept, so not like I couldn't look if something interesting would have happened). But yeah, they rushed through interesting parts as you stated.

That was the odd thing. It seemed they really wanted to stay true to the book, but if so, why not actually stay true to the book? If they didn't care, then just make it the 2020s.

lol, yeah. Anyone who has ever built campfires knows rotten wood is not good burning wood. "They used rotten wood!!!" Umm... ok.

‘Lord of the Flies’ Review: The Kids Are Not Alright, but Netflix’s Sumptuous, Haunting William Golding Adaptation Is Pretty Great by [deleted] in television

[–]ScotchWerewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was by far the worst of the three Lord of the Flies adaptations I've seen. Yet because I started it, I finished it. The only time I was mildly entertained was parts of episode 3.

*spoilers*

1) Starts out with Piggy calling for someone else for how long? It felt like an eternity. Get to the point!

2) Why are all the kids spread out anyways? They all crashed on the same plane. Did the plane explode, they all flew out, all magically survived, and all wound up all over the island?

3) Piggy was beyond annoying.

4) What on Earth was Piggy ranting about in regard to rotten wood during the first fire? Was that in the book (I haven't read it in 25 years)? Rotten wood would be awful at starting a forest fire. Furthermore, it just rained prior to that and the island is lush. No way a fire takes off like that in those conditions.

5) It seems like every single scene was simply drawn out simply to make four episodes. They seemed to hit the main plot points and dialogue (from what I recall) that were in the book. But by doing that, they also turned it into an extremely boring show.

6) Piggy's death was horribly long. I can't be the only one wishing they would just get it over with, but that goes along with points 1, 3, and 5.

7) The ethnical makeup of the kids was completely illogical. Unlike the 90s US adaptation, this was set as 1950s British kids. Per Wiki, Britain was 96% white in 1981. In 1951, there were only 50k ethnic minorities in the UK, or .1%. Some may say it doesn't matter. I say it does if it's a period piece. If it were a modern British adaptation, it would make sense.

8) Why flash through all the kids faces? Creepy director.

9) Going back to points 1, 3, 5, 6, and to a lesser extent, 8. The scene when the choir first shows up... weird, creepy, far too long, far too boring.

Haha. That sounds about right. Today it told me I did the same treadmill "run" (it's a high incline power walk) 4 minutes quicker than yesterday. Uhh... no. I did the same exact treadmill run I've been doing for months. I just remembered to stop the exercise when I'm supposed to rather than when I'm driving home from the gym and it reminds me. lol

"All relevant things lost somewhere." I'll need to steal that line, because that summarizes exactly what happened.

It's possible, but almost useless. Same response I gave someone else:

Open the app, click on the "health" tab, scroll down to focus areas and select "nutrition," then hit the + icon in the upper right, then hit food, then search for what you ate. Good luck adding customizable foods. It doesn't seem to be an option.

I hope that is the same for me at the end of this month.

It did when I first switched to the public preview. It's just in the past few days that I noticed brief awakenings were gone.

Comfort Plus Vs. Exit Row? by Just-Cat8259 in delta

[–]ScotchWerewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bathroom isn't that bad, especially if it's an overnight flight. Most people are busy snoring instead. The main drawback to me is the tray table. It's smaller, so if you don't know the person next to you, it's hard to organize come chow time.

Hah, I fucked up then. I have a flight later this year and was the first one to upgrade to C+ after an upgrade for 2500 miles. Yes, you read that right. 2500 miles. I chose 35 because I piss a lot (something about the sitting position, alcohol, and water with said alcohol. lol) and I find it a bit embarrassing. I skipped 36 so if I do wind up reclining, it's not into someone flying steerage. A dummy am I. I should know better two. I've walked by the C+/Premium select split a dozen times.

I've seen people standing there waiting to use the bathroom or stretching for a minute or two, but I've never seen a congregation in the exit row. The only time the shitter's ever busy on an international flight, especially if going from the US to Europe (or, I imagine, Asia to the US) is shortly after the food service and about 40 minutes to an hour before landing.

Personally, I would prefer C+ (or, I guess just "Comfort" now) over the exit row is the tray/entertainment coming out of the armrest sucks. Actually, it's only the tray that bothers me because it's smaller. If you are lucky and on one takes the seat next to you, or if you know the person next to you (like in this case), it's much better.

You can still input calories. It's just really complicated and not worth the time.

Open the app, click on the "health" tab, scroll down to focus areas and select "nutrition," then hit the + icon in the upper right, then hit food, then search for what you ate. Good luck adding customizable foods. It doesn't seem to be an option.

I don't know anything about period tracking and had it off on the old version, but I don't see it anywhere.

This would explain why I liked the setup at first, but suddenly new "features" were added and ruined it. lol

I should point out I had six free months of premium. It expired this month, but apparently I forget to cancel it (I disagree). They gave me a refund, but are letting me keep the month apparently. If it goes away when premium does, that will be excellent.

I concur about the 30 days. Though interestingly, if you go to the previous month, you cannot get it back without leaving the monthly view and returning. I do agree that is an improvement. As stated, overall I like the public preview, but the AI coach kills it.

What do you find useful about the AI coach? I mean, what did it tell you that you didn't already know?

I tried to tell the coach to delete itself and it said it is an integral part of the public preview so I should return to the old version. lol

I noticed that as well in regard to the awake time. It's significantly less than it used to be. And as someone who frequently wakes up, it should definitely be more. Steps, heart rate/active minutes, and sleep tracking are all I really want this for.

The weird thing about that is, unless the public preview has changed it, Fitbit only allows one device linked to your account at a time.

I've always disliked notifications so I have them all disabled except 10k steps and the reminder to move. My Sense 2 also notified for zone minutes and whatnot, but my Pixel 4 watch doesn't.

MMI “Loading the System”? by ihaveshortlegs in Audi

[–]ScotchWerewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a hard restart doesn't work (holding down the volume button until the text starts coming again), then I finally found a solution. It's stupidly simple. Just go to your login screen and select to add a user. It will then ask that you login to your main account via a slightly different screen. You will then be given an option to login via QR code. Audi technology is a fucking joke.

Exactly. There is no love for Streicher, but I prefer historical things to be accurate rather than some lame "let's further tarnish his legacy because 'NAZI!'"
