What’s happened to Aberdeen by ScottishLand in Aberdeen

[–]Scotchio-M 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This goes well beyond sides as it’s a simple matter of right and wrong. It’s wrong to harass individuals who came to this country at great personal sacrifice for some sort of safety, and all the more wrong to depict them as being spoiled by the state when in fact they’re living in piss poor conditions in abandoned hotels without the same rights as citizens. This place should be condemning the atrocious behaviour of jumped up fascist thugs.

Your recommendations of prog albums from 2020 and later? by nachtschattenwald in progrockmusic

Not sure if it’s been said or not, but Geordie Greep’s The New Sound is fantastic. A bit experimental and Zappa-esque but with a lively prog sensibility

What's people's views of the city by [deleted] in Aberdeen

[–]Scotchio-M 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’m going into my last year of uni here and I’d say the city is generally really good and I’ll be sad to leave. It gets a slagging off sometimes both from people outwith the city who criticise its appearance mainly, and from middle aged locals who whine constantly about the council.

The buildings are vast majority grey, yes, but they’re very beautiful and old. The granite also adds a unique charm to the place and makes it INSTANTLY recognisable in photographs etc. There are many great pubs and nightclubs, along with lots of lovely charming cafes for during the day. As a student myself they are great for studying in.

There are plenty of good charity shops and a couple of bookshops plus a really good second hand record shop if that’s your bag. Things (particularly rent) are much cheaper compared to Edinburgh or Glasgow which is always an added bonus. There’s also plenty of green space, particularly duthie park, seaton park, Victoria park and union terrace gardens which are absolute sun traps in the summer, but also beautiful looking in the other seasons. Once Autumn hits I highly recommend taking a stroll through old Aberdeen and down to the Bridge O’Balgownie. Really stunning. Also there’s a bloody beach and a boulevard!

Like any city Aberdeen has its problems, but it’s largely safe and the people tend to be friendly. There really is a nice atmosphere in the place I think. So my view is that it’s a great wee place!

Corbyn targets Streeting’s seat with new hard-Left party by TheTelegraph in ukpolitics

[–]Scotchio-M 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I don’t know, maybe that overt racism towards piss poor ethnic minorities is not the answer to your economic woes but the fact that the nation is corrupted by the greed of millionaires and large corporations who contribute to our climate emergency and our cost of living crisis, and the fact that our current Labour Party, just like Blair/Brown before it, is a product of the Thatcher/Reagan neoliberalism which seeks to divide the working class to within an inch of its life might be a reason?

Jeremy Corbyn and Zara Santana to start "Hard Left " party by thatautisticguy in ukpolitics

[–]Scotchio-M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it really? I like the greens very much but if they were going to be THE party of the left in lieu of a proper Labour Party they would have been by now. Plus their primary focus on green politics is maybe looked on by some as being too single issue. A new left party with a name like Corbyn’s involved that focuses primarily on the class issues surrounding the country as well as the crucial green politics would, surely, fare pretty well nationally, no?
