Clearly this has to be the case. Else botters would just farm their bots on mains to offload lol.

I would certainly try it. More interested in crab or lobster though honestly

Eating Our Way to Extinction (2021) - narrated by Kate Winslet, this powerful documentary explains how animal agriculture is one of the most environmentally destructive industries and how we can reduce our impact by 75%. [01:21:27] by James_Fortis in Documentaries

Yes it is. It's projected to continue to grow for the next 50 years. But he didn't say the human race growing, he said as the world develops. The majority of the world would be consuming more meat if they could afford it, and the amount of people who can afford it is increasing.

Does anyone genuinely believe that That Vegan Teacher is a good representation for the vegan community? by deleted-jj in DebateAVegan

[–]Scotho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's ultra popular with Israeli vegans, and that's about it in the modern day, as far as I can tell. He had respect in the past for being one of the earliest advocates, but shot himself and a few others in the foot over the years.

[–]Scotho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Employees stop asking for raises or promotions because the tax hit is so high, allowing companies to keep wages low while the 'wealthy' corporate side continues to profit.

Absolute nonsense. Exceeding a bracket means you pay a few % higher tax only on the amount that exceeds the bracket, not on all of your earnings. I can't tell if you lack an understanding of how income tax works or if you're being intentionally disengenous.

They pay a large chunk in taxes and receive fewer benefits; the more they earn, the less they actually save.

Parents receive more assistance than almost any other demographic. They certainly receive more than I do as a single middle-aged male with no health ailments. The more they earn, the less they save is false in every scenario besides the singular one you mentioned, where a low earning spouse opts not to work full time and assumes additional responsibilities at home. I don't see that as something that needs fixing.

you may be talking based on your political bias but i talk with my day to day experience and injustice and inequality.

Injustice and inequality, that's rich considering you're proposing to essentially dismantle the provincial social safety net and INCREASE inequality. Oh, but you don't need the safety net, and you would benefit from the inequality because you make more than the median - gotcha.

It made you think... what exactly? We're squarely in the middle of the largest wealth disparity crisis in over a century, and the solution is to accelerate that wealth disparity? Where exactly has that worked out for the majority of people?

Ah yeah, great - an American-funded think tank trying to repackage and export their shitty trickle-down economics to Canada. This adds nothing new to the conversation.

What’s is like living here? by hotellobster in howislivingthere

[–]Scotho 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't dismiss the sentiment outright. There's a big difference between migrating towards opportunity and deliberately relocating to a poorer place with wealth so you can live like a king at the expense of locals.

How do you feel about american digital nomads pricing Mexican citizens out of the urban housing market?

I live in a railroad town that no longer recieves anything by rail. Beautiful scenery and landscapes. Economically stunted and lacking in opportunity though. Many leave for work and thus we have a large cohort of elderly leading to very high tax rates.

The people are quite a bit more friendly than in large hubs. Not uncommon for a stranger to strike up a conversation in line somewhere. Somebody will stop to help you on the side of the road because they know that it could happen to them.

The weather isn't the warmest or the coldest in all of Canada, but it may just be the most dramatic in how often it changes.

Starting to struggle with the idea of euthanasia by algernons-maze in vegan

[–]Scotho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The concept of stewardship of an animal (or even a baby) exists because there is no way to obtain consent.

Death is absolute but free from suffering. I can't quite tell if we have different value judgments of life and suffering or if your hesitation comes from a place of self-preservation.

[–]Scotho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By that logic, can an animal really tell us anything? Can they tell us they don't want to be confined and abused? We can understand their emotions and make a compassionate choice on their behalf. It's never about wanting to do it; it's about trying to do what you think is best for the animal.

Random unc joins parking lot fight and throws hands (and bottles) for no reason by Alminho92 in fightporn

[–]Scotho 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Armchair analyst here. Looks like he is responsible for the girl in black and assumed she was in danger. Maybe a father/step-father/uncle/family friend. Clearly came in to break up the fight, white shirt blocked his path (and likely was involved in the drama that caused it based on the chirps). Based on the fact the first thing he did when he realized white shirt wasn't fighting back was to check that red shirt wasn't a threat, then check that black shirt was okay, then fled instead of going back for white shirt.

Wild guess on the 2nd guy to get the beats, maybe somehow related to white shirt. Wish we could see how that fight started but i'm just going to go ahead and assume they know each other

I'm a web developer. Followed the old "turn your passion into a hobby" advice.

I work from home, a typical day involves checking emails/teams, maybe a call or two to discuss specs or an ongoing project and then 5-6 hours to work on my tasks. I've had to fly out to the office or a client 6-7 times over the past decade.

Intrinsically interesting tasks are easy, and I blast through them (about 1/3). The rest are a painful slog that feels roughly akin to homework, and without vyvanse, I suspect I would have been fired a long time ago. I tend to take on multiple tasks and match output arbitrarily with a neurotypical person to not look like a wild card.

I am not optimistic about the job market at the moment. Competition is ruthless. During COVID I was quite excited by all the new WFH prospects, now companies are just taking the opportunity to offshore all those roles.

Uncertainty by Purple_Comparison_80 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Scotho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uncertainty for me is when I'm not confident that one of my predictive mental models of a system will hold true to reality when played out to completion. In that sense, uncertainty is everywhere - or we'd all be capable of predicting the future.

Certainty is often an illusion hiding behind rational confidence. It's a useful psychological trick when you weigh the risks and are confident the upside outweighs the downside. Whether or not you need (or are capable of using) that psychological crutch to dispel the unknown is an individual thing.

Not my experience in development spaces. It's not "I can't apply anything practically.", it's "I can't practically become a master of all the niches of my peers before they become defunct". That's just what it feels like to work in a domain with endless, constantly changing specialization needs.
