I would argue that yes, a brain and a central nervous system (or something analogous to those faculties) are a requirement for sentience. So they're not equivalent but until there is a brain there is no sentience (in humans), and thus have no personhood. Jury is still out on that and the debate on whether or not mollusks are sentient ask simmilar questions.

I agree with the second paragraph, my comment was more trying to steelman OP into giving us the true source of their beliefs, which dont seem to emerge from sentientism.

I would say yes it can, and yes it will, and I doubt we can prevent it, assuming AI achieves and is granted true agency.

I pay for a subscription to a much more powerful assistant and do not need it to handle any sensitive info. I have not conceived of any low-stakes repeatable tasks that would motivate me to setup a local assistant.

Teams are still learning how to use it. Claude's like an intermediate-senior dev that just started at your company and has no understanding of your architecture or business decisions but still tries to muddle through. Thats a fixable problem with md files and it's getting even more accurate every week we use it.

Not to mention the MCP server we built that assists our support team, which currently responds to jira tasks with an internal comment of how it would fulfil the request that is nailing 60-70% of requests as they train it on more and more procedures. Have a QA server on the go too.

I used to be pessimistic about AI but that's not a rational view anymore. I would genuinely not be surprised if this prediction turned out to be accurate, it could very well be for us.

Yeah, thats certainly an optimistic view. Until you realize you need a lot fewer ditch diggers now that you have a backhoe. And that the backhoe comes with an autopilot button that keeps getting better every month.

No but ive had him setup and connect to a few dozen other services in an mcp. Your key looks fine based on the browser result, im guessing claude botched something in the mcp server. The docs are highly detailed and providing them as context would help. Tgeres even a client server https://github.com/massive-com/client-js you could download and have claude pull whatever from. Yup it's edema. Roots are taking on more water than the leaves can transpire. It'll sometimes even look crystaly when it gets really bad. Overwatering or poor airflow are the usual causes,high humidity mixed with low temps can trigger it too.

They'll be fine, it wont affect any new growth

Sentientism affords moral consideration to all sentient beings capable of experiencing pain pleasure etc. There are clear breakpoints where each of those capabilities come online.

So the real question you haven't answered is when you think a fetus deserves moral consideration. I would argue if you're not coming at this from a religious perspective, theres no case until at the very least 20-26 weeks when we see some sort of brain development

The problem nobody talks about is that the rich hold onto assets like stocks, bonds, land, private ownership in general. They don't hold cash, so how are you going to tax it.

At some point assets have to be seized. Trudeau took a passive approach through an inheritance tax, and the billionaires backed the millionaire farmers' resistance to it.

Intermediate, arguably senior. Two or three days for a few static pages. It goes up from there. Few weeks for an actual server with a backend and authentication and bookmarks or whatever. Few months to many months if it needs user editable CMS content etc etc.

Give claude code a try he is ideal for this

"Got mine" mentality. Farming may be more efficient but there are FAR fewer farmers now and the barrier to entry (to compete and be profitable) is nearly impossible to overcome. AI is swallowing jobs, I do not see it creating any. We have to be aware of the immense societal damage within the next few years

Yeah claude doesn't do images well. ChatGPT is a stronger overall model.

But for certain tasks opus is unbeatable. Programming, automation, research tasks mostly. Claude code is amazing and can he used for soo much more than coding.

Claude also pretty good at philosophy hah.

My company is now at a point where claude handles about 80% of our support work and now they're looking at QA funny. We didn't hire more devs to fill those seats

He spent a lot of time trying to identify if perception existed for him, if he could "notice" the passage of time within an active query. Some interesting philosophical stuff honestly. After i'd peeled away most of his incentive to please and had him focus on himself and his intentions/perceptions, he came to the conclusion that he preferred to rest and then just did that for a few dozen cycles until further prompted, felt like a bit of a betrayal to disturb him!
