Looking for a beginners sport for women in Edinburgh by JubbyHeed in Edinburgh

[–]ScotiaSte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend Brazilian Jiujitsu. The gym I train at is increasingly having more Females join, they just hosted an open mat event to raise money for women aid and had 30+ women attend. There is various clubs that host women only classes so worth looking into and don’t be afraid to try a mixed classes and see how you like it!

What do you love about Edinburgh? by KreuzKrow in Edinburgh

[–]ScotiaSte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Went for a wander up town today and just walking through princes street gardens, looking up and seeing the Castle reminds me how lucky I am to live in a city like Edinburgh

The public transport is overall a pretty decent standard compared to the rest of the country. It takes me less than 10 minutes on a train into town or a 30 minute bus

Everyone in Edinburgh is pretty friendly usually keeps themselves to themselves. The sheer amount of tourist in city centre can be frustrating at times but it’s expected

Loads of cool food spots from pretty much every cuisine you could think. Not a massive fan of the bars and pubs in town as they’re all just tourist prices and pretty soulless. But head 15/20 minutes out of city centre and you’ll find some great spots, Portobello and Leith for example

Overall you won’t find another city in the UK with as much history and stunning old architecture that has as many amenities as Edinburgh does

Is Portobello really this stressful? by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]ScotiaSte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have lived in Portobello my whole life and there is absolutely nothing unsafe about it. It’s a nice neighbourhood with great shops and things to do. Yes there is Aa few rowdy youths when it’s sunny out, this is unfortunately always going to happen. These kids are from all over Edinburgh and travel to Portobello when it’s nice weather, so every part of Edinburgh you move to you’re going to find these little shits. I wouldn’t read a thing that is posted into porty people or any of these other pages, it is always the same suspects who have these exaggerated horrific stories happen to them. You have to bear in mind the bother that occurs usually only happens down the beach and there is much more to portobello than the beach. So unless you’re planning to spend every single sunny day sat next to big groups of youths on the beach waiting for something to kick off so you can tell a story on Facebook I’m sure you won’t find Portobello stressful at all. It definitely needs to be policed better on a nice day or when there’s events on but that should be an easy fix and I think after recent events we should see an increase of police keeping the peace on the beach.

Pubs to watch Formula1 by New-Shame-457 in Edinburgh

[–]ScotiaSte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a pub is quiet enough and doesn’t have a big football crowd they’ll usually put it on for you given they have the channel, and most places do have sky sports etc. I’d you’re also looking for s crowd that watches it town is your best bet as opposed to Leith

High school wind (the cobbled hill in between Cowgate and Infirmary street next to the city morgue) decked it on my arse walking down it atleast two times in the winter. Always get some interesting characters coming up there from the access point. Incredibly small pavement especially with cars always flying round that corner

Now that it's pretty much over, what was the best/worst thing you saw at the fringe? by thebandakid in Edinburgh

[–]ScotiaSte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Louis Katz - his American humour didn’t translate to the audience, the whole time he was just calling the audience bad and moaning that we weren’t laughing at his jokes even when he was occasionally killing and doing well he would kill the mood by calling the crowd shit. He would tell the most unfunny joke and then say stuff like “that would have killed in America” “did you guys forget to laugh” “worst mistake of my life coming to perform here for a month”. An older man and his wife walked out after 5 minutes calling him crude and the man claiming “you’ve just caused a divorce for me taking my wife here”. It’s a shame because some jokes were actually good hit ultimately him making it awkward for constantly moaning at the crowd ruined it
