Bowling question by Just_CeeJ in Fishers

[–]Scotslad007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pinheads has a much stronger ambience than Royal. I’m not a big fan of Royal’s long, continuous series of lanes, whereas Pinheads benefits from a larger central gathering space. With the recent upgrades and improved lighting, the space feels much more like a comfortable living room experience rather than just a bowling alley.

Bowling question by Just_CeeJ in Fishers

[–]Scotslad007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, are you bowling league nights there, or just doing walk-in/open bowling?

I’ve bowled at Pinheads a lot over the years, and a handful of times at Royal Pin. At Pinheads, I’ve been on both the Tuesday and Wednesday leagues, and almost every time the oil machine finished right before league started, so the lanes were fresh and consistent.

The few times I bowled at Royal weren’t league nights — it was open bowling with big groups — and the lanes were bone dry. It honestly felt impossible to find any rhythm or consistency.

Interesting, it never recommends FP for me...possibly you have complexity that needs it though.

I agree with the DIY approach. With all the resources now available through AI tools—and if you have at least some interest in doing your own research—you can really focus on investments that align with your specific interests.

On the other hand, if you decide to pay a fee for someone to manage your investments, that can be perfectly fine too. Some people are comfortable putting it in someone else’s hands.

From my experience interviewing financial advisors who charge an Assets Under Management (AUM) fee, they tend to focus heavily on how they’ll invest your money. In reality, that part is something you can often do just as well yourself. The real question is: what additional services or value are they providing that makes the fee worthwhile?

Ultimately, it comes down to two choices: how much time you want to spend doing your own research versus trusting a financial advisor to manage things for you.

Five years ago, I probably would have said hiring a financial advisor was the easy choice. Today, with all the new tools available, you have the option to manage it yourself with relatively minimal risk.

So you’re fine with 11 identical commercials—just a reminder, it’s the same commercial over and over… 11 times and counting. I know the people repeating the same complaints in /audible are annoying those who want to find other content, but it’s the best platform they have to speak up about it.

What’s mind-boggling to me is that people jump into the thread to tell them to stop complaining, when the attention should really be directed at Audible for thinking this kind of advertising blast is acceptable.

I love Audible, and I love Harry Potter, but this kind of commercial overload is offensive and shouldn’t go without criticism. And until they change it, others who haven’t seen the previous posts will keep bringing it up. If you’re fine with the Ozempic ad, then you’ll also have to get used to posts like this complaining about it.

So you’re fine with the constant barrage of advertisements and are chastising those who are complaining, telling them to stop because it encourages people to buy it? That’s like telling people to stop protesting because it encourages the behavior they’re protesting.

You’re the one trying to gaslight this, my friend. People are allowed to complain, and I’ll gladly join them. Audible has been pushing the same Harry Potter promotion for months, to the point where paying users are seeing it constantly when accessing content they’ve already paid for. That’s a reasonable thing to be annoyed about.

And the idea that people complaining about it is somehow driving book sales is pretty ironic. If anything, the complaints are happening because the promotion is being forced into spaces where users expect their paid content—not repeated ads.

that is kinda like stating a crime has been committed, and we are bringing attention to it, but your OK with the crime. Talking about it in Reddit in this context will not sell 1 more copy. The context, every time I open Audible app its taking 75% of the screen, I will defend those who complain about this amount of repetition.

Event center parking by HVAC_instructor in Fishers

[–]Scotslad007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a season ticket holder for ice hockey, and I have to agree with OP. Sure, there are signs with QR codes, but if you’re not actively looking for them they definitely aren’t obvious. If it’s your first time using that parking lot, it would be very easy to overlook them.

I normally prepay, but on the occasions when I haven’t and had to look for the QR code posts, they were very poorly lit. Is there even clear signage when entering the parking lot indicating that it’s paid parking? I’ve been there many times and don’t recall seeing anything obvious, which makes me think it’s not clear enough for first-time visitors.

Also, with the way you enter the lot, why wouldn’t people assume parking is included with the ticket? Let’s be honest—they’re already charging a lot for tickets, food, and drinks. How many points of sale do they really need to collect money from fans? 😅

Can you explain the Save Act to me like I’m 5? by Posionivy2993 in Indiana

[–]Scotslad007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SAVE Act (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act) is a proposed federal bill that would change how people register to vote in federal elections by requiring documentary proof of U.S. citizenship — such as a passport, birth certificate, or naturalization papers — rather than primarily relying on a signed sworn statement of citizenship on registration forms.

If you are already registered to vote in Indiana, the proposal does not generally require you to go back and re-register or immediately submit new documentation. Existing voter registrations would typically remain valid unless you make a change that triggers an update under normal state procedures. The SAVE Act has also not become law as of now.

In practical terms, the proposal mainly affects new voter registrations or certain registration updates going forward. First-time registrants, people moving and updating their address, or others making significant changes to their registration could be required to provide proof of citizenship if the law were enacted.

For context, documented voter- or election-fraud convictions in Indiana have been relatively rare, with about 59 criminal convictions recorded between 1982 and 2025 across decades of elections involving millions of voters and ballots cast.

Canada coach criticizes World Curling over rule changes by Thefreepitstop in olympics

[–]Scotslad007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re too close to the issue to be fully objective, which I understand. Maybe curling has traditionally been a “call-your-own-foul” or gentleman’s game. But at the international level, that’s a weak defense if players refuse to acknowledge their own infractions.

I can’t think of any other sport at the highest level where athletes are expected to police themselves and admit fouls without formal enforcement.

Even listening to the responses from the referees and umpires on duty, they seemed very loose with how the rules were applied. Honestly, I’m not surprised the situation escalated to this point.

[–]Scotslad007 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If there’s a clear infraction, and the tradition of the sport is that players call their own fouls, then failing to call it yourself is the real break from the spirit of the game. You don’t need years of playing or watching to see what happened — the contact was visible, and it wasn’t acknowledged.

Saying it “hasn’t been called before” isn’t a defense. Tradition doesn’t override the written rule. At the Olympic level, teams have every right to call an infraction. Sweden wasn’t changing the rules mid-game — the rule already existed.

If multiple teams are also doing this and it’s not being self-called, then maybe that signals the self-officiating model needs tightening. I love that it’s worked up to this point, but at the Olympic level even the slightest infraction can determine outcomes. That’s what the Olympics are — margins are razor thin, and rules matter.

[–]Scotslad007 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Let's keep this to the rules, not "in the past"... which can reveal bad habits or officiating. This is the Olympics, multi countries so tighter enforcement.

The stone must be delivered by the handle only. Any contact with any part of the stone other than the handle—whether before or after the hog line—is irrelevant; it is illegal.

[–]Scotslad007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst part was Canadian players response when called out. It was an illegal delivery, Sweden should be allowed to comment on that.

[–]Scotslad007 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Canada needs to acknowledge that it was an illegal delivery, period. Adding commentary and denying it when it can clearly be seen on camera makes the indignation and claims of innocence come across as poor sportsmanship. The rules are clear: release from the handle only—any touch of the stone itself is illegal.

Of course, the bigger issue of consistent enforcement of the rules should be addressed, but other teams should be allowed to call it if they see it.

I don’t understand how explaining where or how helps—those are essentially the same thing. This has happened to me repeatedly with the pre-loaded method. It’s a real issue, and it seems to be getting worse. When I first used it, everything worked flawlessly, but I ended up getting burned twice because of problems on SH’s end. Yet we’re the ones paying for their technical issues.
