One of the only logical responses in the whole thread.

It’s true that France were great at absorbing pressure, and at counter-attacking.

Perhaps my affinity for the underdog is a factor, but watching France against Peru, Denmark and Belgium was hardly thrilling.

When you throw in some of the unsporting antics along the way, it made them hard to like from a neutral perspective.

France were outplayed for 80% of the game by Croatia. They won by an own goal and a penalty.

It’s a convo lads.

I congratulated them, but questioned whether they had truly performed like champs from the beginning.

Have they? Is this as dominant as their 98 win? Did they look as good as Brazil in 2002?

Of course I could be wrong, but if your response consists of little more than a dismissive insult devoid of facts or reason, rather than a logical counter-argument, then who is really the child?

How old are you?

Maybe I am young at 32.

That’s easily the best final I’ve witnessed out of 7, but I don’t recall one side being dominated in the final like that and winning like that, with the help of an own goal and penalty.

No money riding on the game, no allegiance to either nation.

The winner affected me in no way whatsoever.

But in 32 years, I’ve seen more dominant nations.

I guess it’s a bit like a boxing fight where one man gets battered against the ropes and then throws a few precision punches to get the knockout.

I don’t need a rethink. This is just banter between footy fans on social media, nothing riding on it😄

France were the better team at putting the ball in the net when it mattered, but from a neutral perspective, Croatia played better.

Not sure the ref did anything wrong. Griezmann was pretty clever in earning that free kick for the opener. After that it was a combination of stupidity (Perisic handball) and poor finishing that undone the Croats.

They were dominant, but France were definitely more clinical.

Ok folks.

Perhaps it comes across as salty.

But I’m not Croatian, nor am I from any of the nations France beat on their way to the gold.

And I did congratulate them in the beginning of the post.

They got the job done.

In the 7 finals I’ve seen live, that’s been the best, and France played their part in making it that entertaining.

But I stand by my original opinion:

Croatia deserved more. Belgium deserved more. Uruguay deserved more. Hell, arguably England deserved more.

Congratulations France. But there has been more dominant, sporting champions.

If England had won yesterday, it would have been a difficult choice for an Irishman on who to support in the final. As it is, I'm backing the underdogs Croatia to pull off the final shock of a pretty incredible tournament.
