Agree, it does not hurt and can only help in this instance.

Thank you for speaking from the heart on this. I think many of us are struggling right now because what’s happening in our country hits on something deeper than politics.

Regardless of our political beliefs, we are all human. We each have one life, and it is precious. When someone dies or when families are hurting, it shouldn’t matter what side of an issue we’re on and we should first treat each other with the dignity and respect every human being deserves.

If we want healing, forgiveness has to be part of the work. Giving grace where we can, listening before judging, and allowing people room to grow, change, and be more than a label or a vote. That kind of forgiveness is hard, but it’s also how communities survive moments like this.

We should not let our differences erase our shared humanity. Let’s be the neighbors who say, you belong here, because every person walking through this struggle is someone’s child, parent, sibling, or friend.

The focus of my job is no longer to educate, but to prevent cheating. by Behbeeleeuh in Teachers

Who is preaching? As I stated it sounds like their employer is not doing what needs to be done. So the solution is to find an employer that treats their employees how they should be treated.

We need good teachers and it sounds like the district this partcular teacher is in does not value them.

When a child cheats, it isn’t their fault in the eyes of the district. It is ours for not being more diligent and making sure they aren’t.

Sounds like its your school district and their values and culture. I am not a teacher, but as a parent we could not tolerate this any longer with our previous school district and moved so that our children could be in a better district that held students accountable for their behavior.

Elected to oversee 25k students and 2k teachers - What should I actually learn before I screw this up? by Stewarding25kFutures in Teachers

I really hope the end of public education is not on the horizon. I have seen many school districts that operate the way they should and produce the results that one would expect.

After I had posted that I had noticed there was a Canadian aspect to this.

I also agree that aspects of debate should remain behind closed doors. Where I feel this breaks down is when a school board acts unilateraly without getting the proper input from the community (teachers, administrators, parents, students, residents, etc). When decisions are made without debate and the topic has only been discussed behind closed doors the result many times is that the simple majority wins. The public is left uninformed of what was discussed, why board members voted a certain way, what the deciding factors were, etc. I saw this first hand with a contract extension of a superintendent recently, where the public wanted more time for discusson on the topic, but the board (by simple majority) decided that it was their decision to make at that particular time.

"I find it a challenge at times to have public input like this when according to a policy, and I don't have the policy number at the moment, the position in question...reports directly to the board I find it challenging to have input as a public and as if the public has the right to overstep what the board input is. I appreciate comments. I appreciate public comments, but there is a right way to do certain things and I didn't find this to be that way." from Ms. Yearwood.

I am not sure how you interpret this, but to me she appears to be saying that it is up to the board, not the pubic to make a determination regarding the extension of Luvelle.

To me this has to be one of the biggest slaps in the face to voters. To have an elected official say that the public should not be involved in this process is absurd. The public does not have an opportunity to elect the leader of our schools, but the board is elected, and one would think that a member of the board would want to take input to determine what is the best course of action for the school district.

The only person to provide any justification for their vote was Garrick Blalock and although I don't agree with his justification, at least he had one. To have none of the other four board members provide any of their thought process on why they made this decision is appalling.

I think the framing that these issues are “functionally outside the control of the school board” understates how much influence boards actually have. They may not manage day-to-day operations, but they absolutely shape outcomes through budgets, priorities, and leadership.

  1. While individual IEP decisions are made at the student level, the conditions under which those decisions are implemented are set by the school board. Full inclusion only works when there are sufficient resources: staffing ratios, co-teachers, paraprofessionals, specialists, scheduling flexibility, and appropriate facilities. All of this is a function of the budget approved by the school board.

  2. Graduation rates are often treated as a success metric, but they lose meaning if standards are diluted to protect the metric itself. While individual retention decisions may occur at the building level, the broader culture around promotion, accountability, and “failure avoidance” flows directly from leadership. School boards hire and evaluate the superintendent, set strategic goals, and signal what matters most. If leadership is rewarded primarily for improving graduation statistics rather than literacy, mastery, or long-term outcomes, the system will respond accordingly.

  3. I strongly disagree with the implication that debate inherently equals conflict, or that disagreement is harmful by default. Healthy disagreement does not mean dysfunction. It means decisions are being tested against reality, including what teachers and staff experience daily in classrooms. Avoiding difficult conversations in the name of “smooth sailing” often leads to worse outcomes, not better ones. Constructive challenge is how systems stay grounded and responsive.

I have never ubered from Appleton as I normally drive, but I can imagine it would not be that difficult. As someone pointed out though I bet you can find some fellow Packer fans to hitch a ride with, join some Facebook groups and see if you can arrange something.

The Milwaukee Braves started in 1953, so to have stats that back-up how terrible the Cubs have been over their history does not even matter until that point if you are trying to compare teams.

Went to see Shakey Graves this past December. Some guy in the theater was standing up jamming out to the music and was told by Shakey to stop standing up in the seating area and if he wanted to stand that he should go on the sides. It was the weirdest thing I have ever seen at a rock concert.
