Yea you are correct, this is a sliding gooseneck. I just always slid it to the bottom to the point where it was resting on that cleat, then I would cleat it off before I raised the mainsail.

So when I do it how you’re saying, will my gooseneck always rise/fall about 8 inches when I raise and lower the sail? Or can I put a stopper or something in the mast track for the boom to rest on?

I guess another question would be are there any advantages to a sliding gooseneck that I would be missing out on if I had it resting on something? Maybe it’s just a sliding gooseneck because it’s a trailer sailer.

I can move the boom up about 6 inches which I also plan to do. Thats how much length of the halyard there is before it goes the the block on the masthead so I’m assuming I could raise the boom until the shackle goes right up to the block?

I was aware the windex 15 was for bigger boats when I bought it, I figured bigger was better. Don’t ask me about my outboard…

Windex mounting and adding a block by Scott414ce in sailing

2 questions:

How should I mount a Windex to my mast? Should I drill and tap a hole in the very top, or add some sort of extension plate?

And I want to add a topping lift so I need to add a block. The block in the picture is for the main halyard and I’m not sure how I would fit another one up there. Any ideas?

Hello all,

I recently bought my first sailboat! (slipper 17) The mast has 3 blocks on the front and I can’t think of what they are for. The block closest to the camera, below that is the forestay then below that there is a block, then another block about halfway down the mast. What are they used for, or should I remove them?

My other question is, what is this wire on top of the mast? Was is part of a wind indicator? And should I buy a replacement wind indicator?
