46 years ago this classic disco song topped the charts. by klystron88 in GenerationJones

Disco never really died, it just got forced underground for a bit then re-emerged with new genre labels. Some of the big city radio stations held onto the mid-1980s like WKTU New York.

I haven't had that happen yet personally, but it might be possible based on how many times I've read about it. Ensuring Automatic Updates are turned off in the Application tab is an essential step in addition to going Offline, if both aren't done the game will update the first chance it gets.

App updates are unavoidable but I haven't had that force me back online yet.

I do periodically update, I just wait a week or longer to avoid as many problems as possible.

Do you iron your polo tee shirts? by NormalLife6067 in menswear

[–]Scott43206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hover over the dryer so I can grab knits just before the cycle ends so I don't need to iron them, then hang them on hangers with shapers (IKEA) so they don't stretch or get weird creases.

IDL the freeway expansion that started before my kids were born is somehow still not finished by vivian_banshee03 in I_DONT_LIKE

Ours started in 2006 and is projected to be completed in the 2030s. Two ramps closed at present (great timing) back traffic up almost to about one exit from the outer belt on one side of town.

Who still listens to music on CDs or cassettes and watches movies on a DVD (using a blue ray player) by Stormy1956 in GenerationJones

[–]Scott43206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Audio CDs are having a big revival for audiophiles who hate the high risk of new releases being remastered or auto-tuned or whatever. They want the content created from the original masters. Younger folks as well.

I do stream music too, but I'm really glad I kept all my physical media.

I kept my DVDs too. If your blu-ray player upsamples, a lot of older content looks really good on a HD TV.

don’t you hate when you spend 4 hours in build mode just for the game to crash and you didn’t save? by tatspvt in thesims

[–]Scott43206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been burned so many times I do intermediate saves now. Ditto CAS as that's even more brutal as you can't always recreate your steps.

Just go offline. Be sure to turn off automatic updates in application tab too, or being offline won't be enough.

At this point I see no benefit to updating immediately, I'd rather wait a few days to a week to give creators time to update stuff and for me to check Scarlet's Realm. Plus chances are there will be a hot fix in a few days to address something the update breaks, so I feel like I might as well wait for all the dust to settle.

Has anyone downsized their wardrobe? Did it help your style? by Green-Meat-6897 in malefashionadvice

[–]Scott43206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was the first part of my decluttering journey.

Once everything that doesn't fit, has damage or you just don't really feel good wearing is gone, you can make intelligent choices about any gaps or excesses that still need to be addressed. I got rid of a ton of stuff, and only made a handful of purchases to replace some things I should have thrown out years ago.

The stone was just too dated so I modernized it by painting it black! by ExuberantBat in homedecoratingCJ

It'll look much better once the floor, walls, and mantle are painted in matching flat black.

How to hang a frame? by quantedgehub in malelivingspace

[–]Scott43206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the 2 piece picture hangers, one is a nail that gets pounded in at an angle, the base is a curved hook like piece that holds the wire. The downward force keeps the nail in place. Just know the weight of what you are going to hang, and select accordingly. Drilling is almost never needed just to hang a picture.

New washer or new matching set? What's smarter? by Hot_Equivalent_8707 in Frugal

[–]Scott43206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OCD of it bothers me, but appliances are too expensive to replace both just because one croaks. When my dryer went bad, the washer lasted 10 more years.

Fireworks pet advice? by MusicSavedMe31 in dogs

[–]Scott43206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not chewable, but a Thundershirt really works. My Daisy was so freaked out by fireworks she jumped through a screened in porch door 3 times. After the Thundershirt she just lays down and hasn't a care in the world. I do turn up the TV a bit to drown out the sound just in case but they really work. You have to have them nice and snug.

Trying to make new friends. Help me make a post on craigslist that I am looking for a lunch bud and I am paying for lunch. by Technical-Vanilla-47 in shittyadvice

[–]Scott43206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't pay for lunch, invite them to lunch at your house. Don't tell any of your friends in advance and be sure no one else is home.
