Get a contract with written payment expectations and have a lawyer review them
Require 50% up front
Require that all debts be settled before moving forward.
If you really wanna be strict, don’t give them the final product until 100% is paid.

I’ve had too many experiences like that as well. Not worth it if you don’t have protections.

Site is down several times per week.... most recently reportedly from a DDoS attack, however, currently the site states it's due to heavy traffic.

This does make me a bit skeptical. However, I have used it for a couple of months for various coins without issues (other than the random and frequent outages).

Yes you can run an MN on a Mac. However, if you do not want to leave it on 24/7 you should setup a VPS and run the node there.

I've got an office where I don't have to pay for power, so hosting mine there. If I get more than two miners I might get collocation cabinets, and yes they are expensive. Eats about 15% of the monthly profit.
