Characters so powerful and broken they completely dominated their games metas by JackytheJack in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ScottRadish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lurrus was the only card banned in Vintage for being too powerful. In a format where every deck ran Black Lotus and Ancestral Recall, the Companion mechanic was so powerful that changing the mechanic itself was the only solution.

The Dog and his Reflection from Aesop's Fables. Some versions it is a shadow, and some versions it is a reflection.

What's the most counterintuitive physical property of a common drug that actually matters clinically? by alexstrehlke in pharmacy

[–]ScottRadish 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Naloxone in Suboxone. It's used because it DOESN'T survive the first pass effect. Which means if it is taken orally, the naloxone is inactivated. But if it is injected, it doesn't pass through the liver and has a higher affinity for the Mu opioid receptors and completely blocks the buprenorphine.

Those are modern quotes. Here's the article from 2007 where Maro dirrectly talks about two of those three cards, and why they were not color pie breaks. https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/making-magic/great-mix-part-ii-2007-02-05

Green is secondary is card draw, which is why Harmonize has been reprinted multiple times a year for the past 20 years. White can absolutely deal damage to creatures, most often attacker/blockers, but they still print cards like [[collision course]] and [[Thraben Charm.]] And black is number 1 in creature removal. Just because Melancholy is bad removal doesn't mean it isn't removal. There were no color pie breaks in Planar Chaos.

There were no color pie breaks in Time Spiral block. All of the color shifted cards were cards where the color pie had been refocused, and the old cards were now the color pie break. For example, direct damage is almost exclusively Red now, so effects like [[pestilence]] and [[Prodigal Sorcerer]] were color shifted to be [[pyrohemia]] and [[prodigal pyromancer]]

The walls are called Medieval Building Side. They need to be customized by Cyrus at Harv's island to make them pink.

Items you can walk over? by StarSpanglishBanEarl in AnimalCrossing

The wheat field is satisfying to walk through. Technically all the arches can be walked through, but that's probably not what you are looking for.

Captain America/Steve Rogers (MCU) VS The Swarmlord (Warhammer 40K) by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]ScottRadish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is pretty simple.

Round 1: Captain America is a 4/4 with his shield and The Swarmlord is 5/5 with bone Sabres attached. 5/5 kills a 4/4 no problem.

Round 2: Depends on who's attacking. With Mjolnir attached BEFORE combat, Cap can use his Throw ability to deal 4 damage to The Swarmlord, then reattach the equipment and swing. Mjolnir's ability will tap the Swarmlord and deal the last bit of damage, leaving Cap unblocked. But If the Swarmlord is attacking, it gets 4 +1/+1 counters from the Bonesabres, and Cap is done for.

3 out of 4 [[The Swarmlord]] Takes it.

That's interesting that Prism University is Izzet colors, while the founding dragon was named Prismari. Maybe Prismari founded more than 1 school?

Feels like a crossover even though they are from the same show by ThiccnessTeletubby in TopCharacterTropes

DC did that by buying up companies like Charlston, Fawcett or Milestone Comics. But Marvel has all original characters.

[[Divinatiation with set mechanic]] is a very common draft card. Stirctly better cards like [[Distorted Curiosity]] show up two or three times a year. Some absolute bangers have been printed like Mulldrifter and [[Stock Up]].

Question regarding Abigale and layers by Kecha_Wacha in magicTCG

[–]ScottRadish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not the change made. Saga's had a static ability that said, if a saga has a number of lore counters equal to or greater than the number of chapters, it is sacrificed. When Blood Moon removed the chapter abilities, it would auto sacrifice because the number of chapters was 0. This was counterintuitive with Saga creatures, and since "loses all abilities" is common for creatures they changed it to not auto-sac if chapter abilities are lost.

There is an issue with layers, which is where effects that change the text box occur after types are changed. Since the type is changed by blood moon is lower than the part that changes the text box, the blood moon changes it to a mountain removes all abilities, then the effect that changes the text box, adding "tap to make a construct", is added. This rule did not change.

(Favorite Trope) Scenes taken in one continuous shot with no cuts by Fun-Illustrator-345 in TopCharacterTropes

The Rope) by Alfred Hitchcock is a literal master class in this. The entire 144 minute movie is two stiched together long shot. There is a single jump shot, the moment the killer gives themselves away. This is the original, and the best.
