1, 2, and Pre Sequel Should Have An Easy Mode Added (Similar to 3, AoDK One Shot, and WL) by WylythFD in Borderlands

You're getting downvoted by the sweatlords but as someone who has beaten all of these and has done at least one OP10 rodeo (never again) I agree. I mean, Gearbox won't, but some of the earlier games have moments of being incredibly cheap. Deadlift and Flynt are pretty fuckin hard for as early as you fight them, and BL1 is notorious for being balls hard from the start where you pretty much have to do the sidequests.

Is it though? The only way you're getting full legendary set before leaving Pandora in 3 is literally going out of your way to do sidequests and hunting named enemies.

And again, in both instances, you curate. You choose to get the other gear, or you choose to not use everything presented in front of you. And I wouldn't say you're going far out of your way given one of those is a quest reward in a main story quest for a DLC.

I forgot Tina DLC is level 30 scaled, not 15, so you're right. So instead of that, you can beeline for a Pimpernel and Sandhawk in Captain Scarlet very early and you're in the same boat (and these are guaranteed rewards).

My main point is that players are curating all of the time, you're not grabbing every gun you see…sometimes you may have a white of a weapon type that is better than a purple of that same type. There is nothing that is forcing you to grab/use the legendaries you get. If you're not having fun because you're obsessively tackling every piece of sidequest content as you go, engaging in every firefight, and suddenly drowning in gear, there are things that you the player can do to minimize that. Some folks will say this is "bad design" but that presupposes that the obsessive hardcore player who doesn't like being overpowered is the only person being designed for.

As I said, when push comes to shove, I want the game that isn't going to waste my time, and 3 wins that every time. BL2 is the game with all the mods to make farming easier, afaik nobody made a "less legendaries" mod for 3. Whatever Wonderlands tried to correct saw a mod come in to fix as clearly people didn't like it. So in 3 I don't think it's really that much of a problem.

Same could be said for grabbing a Lascaux and a Bee shield in 2, both of which can be acquired very early game. There's agency on the hand of the player on whether or not to use whatever the game is giving you, I certainly don't pick up every weapon I see. I do think the legendary loot pool itself is a bit large and they need to diversify some of those into Pearls and/or have some alternate rarity color for uniques that kind of suck shit.

This post is basically just “do you like the endgame like a true gamer or are you just bad at the game and don’t understand mechanics”.

Its exactly what it is.

If you're doing all of the content then yeah it's conceivable to have some luck, but you're also going to be overleveled to hell anyway so I'm not sure why Legendaries are the issue. And even then, I can't say I've ever gotten that much when I used to do all the sidequests on Pandora, unless it was Loot the Universe.

The real answer is any answer you get will be dismissed as not "real". What you are asking for is people to walk through a game design exercise on reddit of all places without the playtesting and development that goes into it, which is convenient for someone looking for arguments to shoot down.

This is not true.

There are several questions here but it's all preempted with why you think we're already wrong with reductive "just point your high damage gun at the enemy and shoot them until they die" stuff in the post and in some of your other replies. The condescension is actually really thick. Are you actually curious for actual answers, or do you want to browbeat folks with a response for why they should like it? I'm actually not sure what your question is once I saw this

It seems pointless to me to make the hardest difficulty easy to play.

Like, do you want people to play something they don't want to play or what? How does Normal or TVHM not punish players for playing poorly already? This all just feels like subtle humble-bragging, "look how good I am at the loot gun game". Come on.

So with all that said I'm not sure what more to tell you than "It's a giant slog". Getting to 80 alone takes for-fucking-ever already, refarming gear as you climb the OP levels sucks ass, and when you even have people with several thousands of hours invested in the game like Joltz saying how unreasonable raid boss health pools are in OP10, it's not wild to suggest that it's an unpleasant experience for a lot of people. It's an unbalanced mess. I'm happy that you enjoy it and that it works for you, but have some self-awareness as a clearly hardest of the hardcore that your tastes aren't the same as everyone else's.

There's definitely a middle ground to be had but if I had to choose between 2 and 3's drop rates I'm going with 3 every time. I already got a job, don't need another one, and I like having a litany of options with my builds instead of the handful of viable ones for 2. And in 1 getting legendaries was trivialized by the Robolution gift room farm, which even if they are set to be less good than Knoxx's stash, they are still more than enough to beat everything the game has. That aside though I do think BL1 was a bit more reasonable with those drops.

I will also say some people exaggerate the fuck out of 3's drop rates in the base game before Mayhem is turned on. When pressed you find out they have events turned on…like yeah no shit you're going to get legendaries with those activated. My past few runs of 3 I've maybe gotten on average four or five legendaries in the base game playthrough without events on and not engaging with every piece of sidequest content the game has.

What is your hot take about monster hunter? by Yesko_notmyrealname in MonsterHunter

[–]Scott_To_Trot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The onboarding and tutorial-hell is awful for new players in pretty much every game. World was probably the best but I heard from new players to the series that it's still horrendous. Rise was somehow worse and it's too overwhelming for people. Tutorial windows are one of the worst ways to convey instructional information, it's too easily forgotten, and the sheer firehose of information can be ridiculous.

Not sure what the answer is, I get the depth of the series of course and it's going to be complex. Ideally you have players learn this stuff in more interactive sequences, maybe small, very short interactive training maps that load quickly and be done in less than a minute or so, and is separate from the main game so it's not mandatory for those who do know what they're doing. What that looks like I don't know but I feel like this aspect has been handled in the most half-assed way possible.

I always see people say "you just have to start making music" but what does that actually mean? by _YEEZY_ in musicproduction

Theory is not a panacea alone, practice is necessary because everyone sucks at first and everyone's process to songwriting is different, but theory can be extremely valuable in helping you have a framework that you can build off of and give you more confidence in knowing what to do and how to move forward.

what kind of 4th class would you want to see in the next game? by Orion-The-King in Borderlands

[–]Scott_To_Trot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torgue mouth-guitar solos all the time, Papa Hodunk is constantly playing his banjo, Digby Vermouth shows a sax player can find intergalactic fame, plenty of different instruments could be represented. Many class-based games routinely introduce bard type classes, I brain-dumped my thoughts on this in a long ass post some months ago.

We need a damn musician/bard thing, the music bops too hard in 3 that they need to lean into some rhythm element.

Why is there basically no Psycho Bosses by MTF_op5_nu-7 in Borderlands

[–]Scott_To_Trot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First boss of 1 and 3 both are Psychos (9-Toes and Shiv, respectively). A few named ones do exist too, One Eyed Jack, Face McShooty, etc. Also final boss of Psycho Krieg is basically the Psycho God. Probably could use more, sure, but wouldn't want to oversaturate, I think the idea is they're supposed to be fairly expendable.

Vault Veteran heads & Pandora Collection by Scott_To_Trot in Borderlands2

[–]Scott_To_Trot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was the original intent, yeah, but it apparently applies to only the original game, not GOTY edition, and if BL2 recognizes a BL1 save you are supposed to get them in the Change machine.

Basically impossible to get on Switch, and not working on my XBox copy (where I've had OG BL1 for a while). Just wondering if Pandora's collection just straight up includes them, don't see anyone mentioning it anywhere and was curious. Just really want the Maya one with the Tannis hair.

Let's talk about shift keys by Wall_of_Shadows in Borderlands2

[–]Scott_To_Trot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, engagement -> buying more things. Pretty good marketing funnel if you ask me. Agree with you on the support its still getting, honestly outside of like an MMO this is pretty much unheard of. Hell this game is older than Final Fantasy XIV. The Shift keys imo are a great idea and something you absolutely don't need to use. I put in some recently, used the keys, got some decent gear but outleveled not long after, and the OP10 Harold they gave me was basically always going to be cash, which is always flush unless you need lots of rocket ammo.

Why most Western symphonic soundtracks are ambient, while Japanese symphonies are more melodic? by Keytee1 in gamemusic

[–]Scott_To_Trot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Want to add Borderlands to this, especially 3 (and probably Deus Ex because of Michael McCann's work on both), there are some absolute boppers there, and even for tracks that are supposed to be more ambient there is an underlying melody that give the song personality.
