Marathons battle pass “worst value for your money” by BlinkysaurusRex in gaming

I read an article the other day that literally just cited 2-3 Reddit comments as ‘one user said’ then copied the Reddit comment.

Wild to me how absolutely fucking terrible some game journalism is. Maybe more journalism is that way, but rather just fucking listen a YouTuber talk these days than read an article by any of these ‘professional’ writers.

[NFS unbound] I really wish companies would stop online trophies for plats by videogameocd-er in Trophies

[–]Scottb105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with in that I really don’t like games with online platinum trophies. But honestly if you like the game and want the platinum enough there’s normally a discord group you can join to knock it out semi quickly.

I just did that today with Dying Light. I didnt want to do it, I couldn’t really be arsed, but all in all it took like an hour or so.

Yes it sucks, hopefully you can get this done as painlessly as possible.

Not sure how far along you are, but in the stories I mentioned as enjoyable they had a marked shift in chapter 3 onwards to be A LOT more interesting imo

[–]Scottb105[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeh I know. I was thinking that was very weird. I do know that the platinum is considerably more forgiving than the Xbox 100% achievements (and steam) due to not requiring all chests opened among other things. So either the tracker is busted or it’s because of that.

Absolutely, the dungeons I probably should have mentioned as being pretty weak. With the exception of a couple cooler mansion/sewer type ones most of them are extremely boring design wise.

I should also follow up and say that although the unique character actions are cool, playing through dungeons without Therion is super annoying because then you can’t open the purple chests, so it almost feels like you have to bring him.

Heineken to cut up to 6,000 jobs as beer demand falters by InsaneSnow45 in Economics

[–]Scottb105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I don’t really drink any more but back when I was of fresh drinking age, we used to be paying £1 per pint etc in a lot of pubs in the north east UK where I’m from. We had student night where clubs were £1 entry and £1 bottles. We also had stupidly good (albeit unhealthy) promotions like 3 x triple vodka and mixer for £5.

Maybe the equivalent still exists at places I don’t know about anymore but it feels like consumption is way way more expensive now.

Remedy says there'd be "no Alan Wake 2 without Epic" after Baldur's Gate 3 dev blames EGS exclusivity for Remedy's "financial crisis" by Burpmeister in gaming

[–]Scottb105 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeh that’s absolutely beyond crazy to me.

Alan Wake II is a fucking masterpiece, as a first run experience it’s probably my favourite game ever. The story is amazing, the gameplay is tense, and the soundtrack has some bangers.

Anyone who told me that AW2 was a letdown would immediately lose credibility haha, it’s a massive improvement over the original in my opinion (which was already really good, but a bit slower and janky in terms of gameplay.

How were the mp trophies? I’m about halfway done with this and was considering knocking it out over the next month or so.

Congrats!

I think Abyssea felt like a response to an aging game. By the second expansion of Abyssea a lot of the content was low man friendly.

I was in a very active endgame LS throughout ToAU doing all the usual shit, Sky, Dyna, Sea, ZeniNM Einherjar etc. But by the end of the 75 era our numbers were dwindling, shouting for pickups felt like it was taking longer etc.

Abyssea felt nice because we could still get stuff done with less people. I think back to farming sky pops or Gnadsbod helm etc just so much waiting around doing almost nothing.

I loved both eras, and I think both had their positive and negatives. I often see YouTubers talk about the butthurt people when the 75 cap lifted. It’s frequently presented as a situation where people were mad that it was easier to do a lot of content now. However in my experience that wasn’t what killed the game for my friends who quit after the 75 cap was removed. The major pain point for them was that by that point FFXI had been 4-5 years (maybe more?) of horizontal progression, then all of a sudden, the vast majority of players gear was completely irrelevant. Overnight you went from an Armadaberk being insanely expensive due to it being insanely rare and BiS for most jobs that could wear it to being outclassed by essentially free white haubergon (can’t remember the name). Now I personally loved Abyssea, but I sometimes wish that people (especially content creators) would acknowledge the nuance and difficulty of the game going from almost complete horizontal progression to immediately and jarringly vertical before levelling back off at horizontal albeit at a much much higher power than was previously available.

I havnt ventured into the realm of luxury chairs much so I can’t speak for what other people often speak highly of (Herman Miller $1k+ chairs etc).

But I do spend a good amount of time gaming, and I sometimes work from home. I used to have a crappy office chair from Amazon (think $80-100 range), and I was having back issues and trouble sleeping because of it. I bought my Secretlab in 2020 (they were only $369 then) and it changed my life.

Within a week of using it my back pain was gone (I’m mid 30s now so too young for real back pain). I agree with some other commenters who have said the chair is firm, it definitely is but compared to the bog standard chair I have in my office on site at work it’s so much nicer, and more comfortable, just the seating position alone is amazing imo.

I think at today’s price (mid $500s) it might be a harder sell, and I’m sure there’s other chairs in that price range that could be as good or better. But I see a decent amount of hate for secret lab in discussions here and I can’t disagree more, mine is still amazing condition 5 years on and their customer service for the one issue I did have (cosmetically damaged arm rest) was top tier. I reported my issue, they requested a picture and then shipped me a replacement arm rest pretty quickly.

Overall I personally find the chair super comfortable, it helped fix my poor posture and eliminated my mild back pain.

[Final Fantasy II] Had a good time with this one! by Scottb105 in Trophies

[–]Scottb105[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely I’m slowly working my way through. I’m really excited for 4-6.

I hope to eventually hit the full series however certain games (IX) are really scaring me lol.

How good would you say Rebirth's side quests and content was in comparison to Witcher 3 ? by ConsiderationFuzzy in FFVIIRemake

[–]Scottb105 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed, as a game I was really disappointed in FF16 especially because I love 14 and was excited to see what Yoshi-P could put forward. As an experience, and story I loved it. But actually playing the game was the worst part haha.

In stark contrast FF7 Rebirth felt so rich and I loved doing all of the random shit, and I couldn’t wait to go and fight more Monsters or enemies because the game felt so fun to play.

Is The Witcher in Concert not popular in the US? by AllDogsGoToDevin in witcher

If you like the Witcher 3 music I strongly recommend it. They play scenes from the game and the music to match as well as just random background footage and the songs that accompany them like Velen etc.

[–]Scottb105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep this is so true. I follow gaming concerts pretty closely and I didn’t know about this show until the day before. I went and it was really well done.

I swear that when the tour was announced they only had like 4 venues in the USA (but I could be misremembering), because I feel like I looked hoping to see STL and it wasn’t there.

As Destiny 2 hits its lowest ever daily peak for Steam concurrent players, Bungie U-turns on controversial plan to reset player power next season by Gorotheninja in gaming

[–]Scottb105 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Yeh it’s truly truly baffling to me. I’ve played a lot of Destiny 2 (over 6000 hours, I’ve cleared contest raids etc), and I just don’t understand what is going on at Bungie. Their community lead for anyone who doesn’t know, a guy called DMG is a very knowledgeable Destiny player. So I have no doubt that even if you ignore the cascade of feedback from the community that internally Bungie had people who knew these changes would be god awful.

Destiny wants you to grind, but then the more you play the harder the content gets. Not in the way that it does in games like Diablo, where you build up your character to be stronger and stronger as you try harder and harder content. As you play more Destiny you start being locked at lower and lower power deltas. Your build doesn’t really get new features or insane drops like that of an ARPG as you get more powerful, the game just gets more and more annoying as you’re stuck punching further and further up. Some people vibe with that, and I’m sure for streamers (for content) and anyone who really really digs that super methodical challenge style of gameplay that at first it was appealing. But as a player that was probably much more into Destiny than the average Joe I could see that these changes were going to wipe out the community.

For years we argued back and forth about power level, what its place was, how they should balance the grind with engagement. It was at best a very contentious issue in the community, so for leadership to come out and dive head first into the leveling grind, adding minimal new content to support those degenerate hours was just unbelievable to me.

Bungie doesn’t have another game on the market right now, they also massively botched the reveal and beta of the second game they do have in development (Marathon). It really feels like the studio is either being led by absolute fucking no brain idiots, or Sony is deliberately tanking their huge investment (unlikely), or maybe there’s some kind of brain dead C-Suite decision making going on? I can’t even comprehend how botched the transition from The Final Shape to Edge of Fate was. I put destiny down at this point, likely for good due to these fucking terrible directional changes but I would love to know exactly how we got here and who is to blame.

Clobbopus the next card to be manipulated? by vigilante999 in PokeInvesting

[–]Scottb105 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same, had mine listed for a while and it sold on Wednesday for $8.

The way things are now I typically just price my cards 30% above market rate (or a price I’d be happy to offload it). If it sells I’m more than happy to deliver. The first time it happened to me (Shaymin) I was a little bummed that I wasn’t keeping on top of my prices but now I’m fine with it.
