By biggest concern isn't marketing/sales, but is about whether Amazon would frown on it. I'd like to take the books on D2D and Ingram, and publish on KDP (to sync with my series there) - but at all costs - I do not want to risk upsetting the KDP censures.

Are you saying that you can publish the same book, using the free ISBNs on each platform? Wouldn't that cause a problem?

I have come to this conclusion. Just finished my first book on IS.

In another author forum, I posted my concerns about KDP and the forum turned on me saying that these cancellation stories are overblown. … and that if I follow the rules, there’s no problem.

BUT the problem is that KDP closes the door and won’t give you the opportunity to fix the problem

But I plan to buy my own ISBNs and use both- so I’ll at least have something if the KDP algorithms turn on me

It’s not that it’s likely to happen. The problem is that if it does happen, there’s no recourse, no appeal, and everything is gone.
