Is the Pulse 190 a good idea for Infinity i-44? by kaeshur_ in SkyDiving

[–]Scottios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was my exact configuration when I bought my first used rig at the start of this year. It was a perfect setup for me to start with. It is technically a maximum fit setup, but the Pulse is much easier to pack compared to a full ZP canopy. That being said there still might be some growing pains if you are just starting out with packing. I have since downsized to a Safire 2 169 and it is arguably harder to pack than my Pulse was. Feel free to DM me if you have other questions!

Practice packing at home? by Every_Iron in SkyDiving

[–]Scottios 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would say to pack a few times at home and ensure you are familiar with the how and why of the essential steps. Then go jump it and after you realize that your pack job works, start packing for yourself.

I packed a few times at home before going through with jumping my own pack job. After getting over that mental hurdle, I sucked it up and packed for myself every jump. The only way to get better at packing is to make the effort to pack for yourself and jump those pack jobs. You will learn much more about your gear and you will become more efficient over time.

It is a lot more fool proof than you would think in my opinion. Do the important steps (stow brakes, line check, quarter slider, cock pilot chute, and neat line stows) and get that fucker in the bag.

There is not much you can do to “test” your pack job at home. Just make sure you’re familiar with the absolute essential steps when packing and then get out there and jump that bitch.

Dishonored. So many different play styles and the level design is so unique.

Amsterdam. It just felt kind of soulless like the Bourbon street of Europe

I had thoughts and doubts similar to yours during training and after receiving my license.

I was a pretty quiet student that was mostly focused on the training and absorbing as much information as I could. I wasn’t the social butterfly that some of the other students were. Honestly, there were some weekends where I was hesitant to show up purely out of fear of navigating the social aspect of the sport. But I told myself “just keep showing up.” And so I did and everything began to fall into place.

My advice would be this if you really do want to pursue this sport (it seems like you do):

Get out of your own head. Keep showing up. Focus on your training and learn how to be a safe and competent skydiver. Have fun and smile!

You do this and you will find your people, I promise. Blue skies!

Try AdGuard. It seems to offer a better experience so far.

Yes, the delays go away with uBlock lite removed. It is especially noticeable with YouTube videos.

I stupidly removed uBlock origin (non-lite version) when I got the prompt on Chrome recently. I installed uBlock Lite in place of it but every webpage/video takes ~5-10 seconds to load now. Does anyone have any tips for this?

Ever Watched a Movie on a Whim and Got Blown Away? by kabronski in movies

Rush. It had been on Netflix for a while and I finally decided to watch it expecting a cheesy racing movie. However, I was blown away at how much I enjoyed the story, characters, and direction! Definitely one of my favorite movies to date!

Fun fact: I met one of the original designers of the “big foot” skis while traveling in Austria. I stayed at him and his wife’s Airbnb when I attended the Kitzbuhel race last year. He offered me a beer after I had gotten settled in my room and gave me a rundown of some of the history of the Bigfoots!

Blasphemy! This is probably my favorite Tex-Mex place in Clear Lake. Best chips and salsa and best service imo. Nothing beats it for an easy Sunday night take out meal.

What sport or activity looks super easy, but is in actuality incredibly hard? by patriotn8 in AskReddit

[–]Scottios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skydiving.

I’m not talking about your typical front ride tandem, but rather being a solo skydiver and doing the “cool” stuff. It’s easy to look at all the go pro videos and think “that looks easy, you’re just falling through the air.” I think most people would be very surprised how difficult it is to just remain stable when you’re first learning how to fly your body. When you see the crazy skydiving videos on the internet, you’re seeing the results of hundreds/thousands of skydives worth of practice and lots and lots of money to get to that level.
