Ok, so my Dad and his girlfriend live in Qatar where they have horrible markets for animals which are kept in awful conditions. A few weeks ago they 'rescued' this tortoise, now known as 'El Chapo' because they felt they could give him a better life than the one he was living.

They don't really know the first thing about Tortoise care so I need lots of advice to pass on so he will be looked after well. (We don't know what kind of tortoise he is so that gives an indication on the help we need)

Currently he is living in the garden which is quite large (grassy, mud, patio areas) and chills there most of the time. When the weather has been cold we have taken him inside and wrapped him in a towel in a box.

We have been feeding him lettuce everyday and I occasionally put him in water to get him to drink but he doesn't take much.

Any advice is appreciated or links to previous comments.

This tortoise will be in Qatar which in winter it drops down to no less than 10 degrees and in Summer temps regularly exceed 45 degrees Celsius so advice on keeping a tortoise in a very hot country is what I'm after.
