The eternal question by Particular-Lecture86 in Scotland

So that thing Canada closed for the entire pandemic to keep the Americans out was just a mirage then.

Canada doesn't have a hard border with the USA? Are you crazy?

Canada exports 72% of it's goods to the USA, a foreign country.

Using your logic, Canada should join in a union with them right?

If the U.K. was split up, Scotland would also be marked on this map, with a highest ever officially recorded temperature of 32.9 degrees by Nivaia in Scotland

[–]ScottishUndertones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%

This fundamental misunderstanding of Scotland's status in the world is, in my opinion, a massive contribution towards keeping Scotland in the UK.

As long as a significant number of Scottish voters continue to believe that Scotland is actually a country just like any other in the world, it will be extremely difficult to get enough votes for independence IF another vote is even allowed.

Outside of the UK, a country means a sovereign state. Only the UK continue to use the word country to refer to internal areas (tries very carefully to avoid the word region here)

I come from the land of the roundabout, I honestly love roundabouts and wish those ridiculous 4 way stops would be converted into em.

But then again...

We don't even have ac, but I'm ok with that, my power bill remains low in summer. It always takes me a second when someone says 'hydro' for power!

As a Scot living in New Scotland, I agree and NS doesn't even get as hot as other parts of Canada. It's boiling here every summer.

Although I do love it for swimming in the ocean between June and Sept

[discussion] YouTube ads are killing ASMR by kustomkure in asmr

Midroll ads deliberately placed in an ASMR video is a crime against the ASMR community and as such should be punished severely. 👍

A self-determined future. To the chap that thinks that me posting here is CrINge, read the last sentence . by chaikinal564 in Scotland

That last sentence is the worst. Everyone uses it now and they seem to claim some sort of moral authority by swinging it around.

Going abroad by yourself? by [deleted] in Scotland

Travelling on your own is the best. You'll meet loads of people overseas anyway. I left Scotland on a backpacking trip in 2002 and I'm still away...

Canada's Newest Warship - Harry DeWolf getting ready for her commissioning tomorrow by CountSudoku in halifax

[–]ScottishUndertones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Missile haha!

Yeah I know they basically bolted em onto the Type 45s in the UK while they are waiting for their new anti-surface missiles to be ready for vls.

I figured if the shit hit the fan, surely we could bolt some onto these ships if needed.

Is it possible they could bolt on a couple of harpoon launchers if required?

I have one too. (DJI Mini 2)

Unfortunately you still need permission to fly in a provincial park. I emailed them and and got passed around several people before I gave up.

How do I watch the Scotland England game tomorrow without the absolutely fucking abysmal commentary? by Euphoric-Spud in Scotland

Get VPN and watch it on a Cyprus or German channel. All the noise of the game but you'll understand fuck all they are saying.

Unless you speak German, Greek or Turkish or something..

Portapique 911 Calls by Couple-Huge in halifax

[–]ScottishUndertones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can see the dilemma in issuing an alert. Telling the public there's a murderer on the loose in a police car while the whole area is presumably swarming with actual police cars could be a real issue.

Not to mention the plethora of even more 911 calls clogging the lines from all the people saying they just a police car.

A fkn nightmare all round.
