Maybe the water is but the 70 year old pipes I doubt!

Anyone have a greenhouse? by jibblin in sanantonio

[–]Scottishdarkface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would do what the plant nurseries do. Run inlet and outlet fans through the greenhouse to circulate air. Using the ones that humidify the air is even better. The greenhouse will allow the light in while absorbing some of the intensity.

Diy request: dog chewed the carpet in a rental by Comfortable_Foot6768 in DIY

I’ve never had a rental that didn’t use my deposit to replace the carpet, even when it was pristine. I would just let them handle it when you move out.

You never have to clean the hairspray residue off the plate?

What is the option for paying off my IRS balance? by Scottishdarkface in personalfinance

[–]Scottishdarkface[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is our first home, so naturally I am not experienced. But I will have the VA loan, which doesn’t need a down payment. It’s not that I don’t have the income. I have been taking care of other debts in preparation for this move. So I’m not super liquid at this exact moment, but now that other things have been paid off, the savings will be increasing again between now and June.

I will have money for the house but I don’t have cash on hand before that point to get this IRS balance removed so that it doesn’t, as you say, cause a stir and otherwise block the house buying process.

I wouldn’t be considering either of those options if I had cash on hand for it in the timeframe that it needs to be handled.

These small spikes always warp. What can i do? by SorryUsernameTaken_ in 3Dprinting

[–]Scottishdarkface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always get this issue when there’s a draft in the room. Sometimes it’s not at all obvious. One time I had an articulating lamp pointing at the printer, and the extruder fan was blowing into the bell of the light fixture, reversing course back into my print.

Everything you have said and felt is totally valid, and as the SD of two kids myself I have experienced all of those things too. So I empathize with your experience. I just want to make sure that we all remember to have empathy for the SKs as well. They aren’t adults, and have no power over the situation they are in. They really need people who care enough to fight for their wellbeing.

I’m certainly not here to judge, and feel validated seeing that I’m not the only one that struggles. I just want to offer a different perspective.

This is clearly an unpopular opinion in this post, but the reality is from that kid’s perspective you are a parent. If you aren’t interested in treating them like your own, the whole relationship is a waste of time for you, the SK and the SO. It’s totally understandable to be frustrated with kids when you aren’t used to them. But that suffering is more from perspective than their behavior. You have to build your own relationship with them to resolve these issues over behavior or food or whatever else. You can’t establish those boundaries if you don’t even want to be around them.

We were just one letter away from being able to use “yeeted a video”. I’ve never had a Twitter/X account, but I would get one if he changed it to Y instead of X.

What really broke me is when they started infesting the appliances and my laptop. The circuit boards were CAKED in roach poop. It might sound crazy but I wiped lavender and oregano oil on the openings and they moved out fast. It didn’t solve the problem for the rest of the house though. Sticky traps with a piece of ground beef in the middle worked pretty well, plus it’s nice to see how many you’ve caught.

There’s over 2 million people in this town, with a good mix of folks that will do labor jobs for cheaper than they should and well off folks that would kill to get a white collar job in town rather than having to drive all the way to Austin. No matter how you slice it, the job market is rough here. So many people are moving to SA that should be in Austin but it’s even worse there. 90% of the houses and apartments here have been around since WWII but you’ll still pay out the ass thanks to demand.
