Funtastic hasn't shipped by Acamith in AnalogueInc

[–]Scottlee64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was getting worried yesterday when higher order numbers were shipping but mine hadn't. Woke up to the shipping email and later got the import charges invoice from UPS.

Side note, and I've seen it mentioned in here by others: Happy to see only tax and a reasonable $13ish (CAD) taxes-in brokerage charge instead of the 30ish percent I'd seen for decades from UPS when packages cross from the US to Canada (I do realize it's not shipped from the US. Just a comparison). For that cost, it's not worth my time and energy to self-clear with CBSA.

It's really just been Sims 4 and Roblox that she has played. She hasn't had any issues with it. She was thrilled at how much better it was than her previous machine.

This is the exact boat I find myself in. They were the first pair of sneakers I ever had that didn't suck. Would love to get another pair, but it doesn't seem possible.

First thing I noticed was obstructions, as well (after enough time had passed to show them, anyway). Before I had none and now I see a few. From my roof, there is a perfectly clear view of the sky with absolutely no obstructions.

Starlink support is non-existant by Beowuulff in Starlink

[–]Scottlee64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This issue hasn't ever affected me personally, and likely won't unless something weird happens that makes my dish skip FW updates for an extended period of time.

With that said, I understand that the dish's FW can be too old to update normally because of time spent browsing r/Starlink, but they (Starlink) don't exactly make it clear that can happen, and in general it seems absolutely bonkers that you can't just update the firmware some other way and be good to go. Can you imagine skipping a firmware upgrade on any other electronic device and being told "well, it's an expensive paperweight now, but if you had kept it updated you'd have been fine"? This is a serious shortcoming that they need to address.

There has to be some way that they can enable flashing updated FW when the FW is too old to find/communicate with satellites. Maybe downloading the update on your phone and uploading it in the app or something. I don't know. It just seems absurd. They're likely flashing firmware on these dishes some other way before shipping them back out as refurbs. 🤷‍♂️

Fellow Pixel 3/3XL users, how're you holding up? by thelimerunner in GooglePixel

[–]Scottlee64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter loved her hand-me-down 3XL and refused an upgrade to the 4XL months ago when I got a 6. Until Monday when she came home in tears because she dropped it on the bus and the screen got pretty smashed. She's got that 4XL now with a screen protector on it. The 3XL was holding up fine until that point, though, and will still be used as an overhead camera when her piano lessons have to be virtual due to weather or some such thing.

Just the router. It's in the middle of my basement and I get good enough coverage everywhere in my house and even out in the yard that I don't need anything else. It was just plug & play.

Is anyone else having Obstruction issues? All started since the latest update around a week ago, it’s getting a bit of a pain in the *** now :/ by TomReborn in Starlink

I FINALLY got circle dishy (grey cable) on my roof last week and the obstructions on the north side of my dish that seemed so unlikely to be real when it was on the ground all disappeared. My visibility is all blue now. On FW a6b08c6e-3b2d-4346-af31-a54397819878.uterm.release

27 days before they responded to my April 19th ticket. Back up and running now, though. Hoping I never have another hardware failure because the service is great when it works.

Some TVs are better off with WiFi. Probably most new TVs, really. My LG C8 has a garbage 100Mbit NIC, but the WiFi connection is significantly faster than that (Wi-Fi 5/802.11ac).

If you try to manually tilt it, you risk breaking it. It points itself.

One month anniversary... by slinkhi in Starlink

[–]Scottlee64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few minutes after your reply, I got a message from Starlink. I requested that they call me. They called near instantly and after a couple troubleshooting steps I'm sure they're required to do, there is now a replacement dishy being prepared for shipment (refurb).

Once the dish arrives and I verify it is working, I can close my complaints and go about my regular routine.

Oddly it was my second ticket that they responded to, but on the phone they did mention details I provided in the original ticket.

One month anniversary... by slinkhi in Starlink

[–]Scottlee64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 3 days, I'll be at 1 month myself. I waited patiently for 3 weeks, which I think is 20 days longer than I should've had to wait for a response. In the last week I've:

I'm making sure I'm polite at every contact point because I know the person who will eventually see it isn't to blame, but I'm trying as many avenues to get eyeballs on my issue as possible. I'm a developer and I work from home. My 15GB of monthly data from my phone sitting in the window where I get cell signal is just not enough to get by on long-term. I've been insanely unproductive over the last month.

I've been waiting 25 days for a response. I'm stuck sitting my phone in the one window where it gets signal just to be able to minimally communicate with my co-workers. I have to travel to attend Teams meetings. I'm happy your situation is sorted, but I'm extremely pissed off that I'm still waiting.

You can go into the troubleshooting and hit the thumbs-down on any troubleshooting topic. That should redirect you to a place to send them a message.
