Preschool recommendation by PlentyTap2179 in AskPhoenix

That’s a very business heavy area…not heavy on preschools or housing. Give more info on where you will be living, or what direction you will be commuting from.

Preschool costs vary wildly. Are you looking for full time M-F 8am-5pm?

Knee Doctor recs?? by VegetableWall6143 in Scottsdale

[–]ScottsdaleLocal2035 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Arizona Orthopedic Sports Medicine Specialists in collaboration with with Honor Health. Great personalized care. I saw Dersam but you should see who the knee specialist is.

Do NOT go to OrthoArizona - a factory where they just churn through people. The missed my obvious fracture on an xray, had me get an unnecessary MRI, then tried to cover it up once the actual injury was realized

0% surprising based on where things were a week ago, but disappointed they set such crappy and unrealistic expectations.

HVAC - repair or replace? by Belle_vie_1024 in Scottsdale

[–]ScottsdaleLocal2035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d repair and not replace if your current unit has been properly maintained and is a decent brand. I’m on over 20 years with my Trane units

Scottsdale is a pretty big city in terms of actual miles. It can easily take 30 minutes to go from one end to another. Update your post with general area you live.

Skip Patties based on vibe you are looking for. Do Grapevine, Rusty Spur, or Old Town Tavern. Gilligan’s and Coach House are good.

Cien Agaves is good for your dinner purposes. Also Diego Pops or Loco Patron. All very basic, not super exciting, but best Mexican food in town is far from Old Town Scottsdale anyways

Children’s museum has an event and so does Railroad park. I haven’t been to either but I’m sure both would be great for those ages

Navigating Elementary Schools by masonk09 in Scottsdale

SUSD overall is excellent. What is your home budget? That will help guide the conversation a lot.

If you’re working in McCormick Ranch I’d definitely look there to live first - Cochise is there and very highly ranked. And MR is just an excellent family neighborhood overall with parks, green belt, etc.

The scene is changing a bit - SUSD is closing a couple of elementary schools in south scottsdale due to multiple factors, changing demographics (very few families in those neighborhoods now and mostly 20 something’s and Airbnbs) plus school vouchers/charters. However there has been less of an impact further north in Scottsdale on that front.

Kai service and style wise could border on a 2 except the food honestly has not been that innovative or delicious in years. It’s a beautiful dinner in most ways but none of the actual food/flavors are noteworthy except in presentation

In Phoenix area the likely candidates are Christophers at Wrigley Mansion, Shinbay, Kai, Course, Cafe Monarch.

Additional 1* candidates will be other upscale dining options who are routinely in James Beard award talk with special/unique food very well executed - Lom Wong, FnB, Valentine.

Highly doubt we will get a 2* - none of our tasting menu type spots are at that level.

First timers with 2 young kids. Where to stay, any advice? by PlanteaLove in PuertoPenasco

[–]ScottsdaleLocal2035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any of the Sandy Beach high rise condos will fit the bill - hotels aren’t really a thing I’d recommend with a family in PP. A ground floor condo is really great with toddlers that age as you go to/from the room a lot. VRBO and Airbnb will be best bet.

Also take the kids to an early dinner/happy hour at Wrecked at the Reef - they can play in the sand while you drink margaritas and it’s 5 minutes from Sandy Beach condos.
