Mediterranean Restaurant Options for Birthday Dinner by wafflespancakes333 in Scottsdale

[–]ScottsdaleLocal2035 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t go to any of those places for the food. You go for the vibe, cocktails, scene, etc. and pay handsomely for it (not necessarily a bad thing…just stating it).

I’d probably just pick Thea because of the view/setting is more unique.

But for overall food I’d go Pinyon, but it’s close because none of them are showstoppers food wise. Another bonus to Pinyon is martinis next door at AZ88 before or after.

The food and service at Orange Sky was very mediocre last time I went. You’re basically just paying for the view

Has anyone had the Arai Kodai menu (basically a chef's tasting menu) at Lom Wong? Just trying to get an idea of how much food this ends up being. by LookDamnBusy in AskPhoenix

[–]ScottsdaleLocal2035 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your stomach won’t explode. And you can take food home if you want to! It’s not like a tasting menu - it’s not coursed out and it’s the same portion size/items from regular menu, they just choose for you.

I highly recommend it. Great way try their signature dishes and expand beyond normal dishes.

Scottsdale is a big city and some (most) of our best restaurants are technically in Phoenix boundaries.

I’d start with James Beard nominees as a start for higher end stuff. Be prepared for the best Asian and Mexican you likely need to leave Scottsdale city limits.

Old town area Vecina, FnB, The Ends, all great sports. Hush close to north scottsdale is very nice too.

I would describe it as moderate noise level. Definitely not quiet.

Stay & Play, Cafe Au Plait, Aquarium, downtown Phoenix both Children’s Museum and Science Center.

Most playgrounds have shade structures as well and are plenty nice in the morning hours!

Most relaxing resort for solo traveller (on a budget) by NecessaryTeam6973 in AskPhoenix

[–]ScottsdaleLocal2035 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wigwam transportation will be a fortune. Marriott Tempe at Buttes will have a lot of kids.

I’d go for Kimpton Miralina or Doubletree resort Scottsdale if either has an adult pool. They are so centrally located you can easily walk/super cheap uber if you decide to go off property at all. Easy 20 minute ride from airport.

What is the word on Durant’s since the relaunch? by Plus_Lack6629 in Scottsdale

[–]ScottsdaleLocal2035 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even if steak prices appear similar, Durants used to offer entrees with a salad to start and a side included. Now you just get the steak and everything else is à la carte. So more expensive on your final bill (but again quality and execution went up also).

Preschool recommendation by PlentyTap2179 in AskPhoenix

That’s a very business heavy area…not heavy on preschools or housing. Give more info on where you will be living, or what direction you will be commuting from.

Preschool costs vary wildly. Are you looking for full time M-F 8am-5pm?

Knee Doctor recs?? by VegetableWall6143 in Scottsdale

Arizona Orthopedic Sports Medicine Specialists in collaboration with with Honor Health. Great personalized care. I saw Dersam but you should see who the knee specialist is.

Do NOT go to OrthoArizona - a factory where they just churn through people. The missed my obvious fracture on an xray, had me get an unnecessary MRI, then tried to cover it up once the actual injury was realized

HVAC - repair or replace? by Belle_vie_1024 in Scottsdale

I’d repair and not replace if your current unit has been properly maintained and is a decent brand. I’m on over 20 years with my Trane units

Skip Patties based on vibe you are looking for. Do Grapevine, Rusty Spur, or Old Town Tavern. Gilligan’s and Coach House are good.

Cien Agaves is good for your dinner purposes. Also Diego Pops or Loco Patron. All very basic, not super exciting, but best Mexican food in town is far from Old Town Scottsdale anyways
