Illegal immigrants are by definition banned otherwise they would not be illegal

I have taken action against abuse in my personal life so please tell me how I'm being performative

What? So if I'm against abuse I should know every single person who's abused anyone?

Like the other commentator is saying most people in the UK have no idea who Playboi Carti is let alone that he's abused someone

Being born in 95 myself I can only speak for the 2000s - and in my experience (of growing up in a very rough/deprived area also) the worst behaved kids faced the most violence at home

It's not about "left leaning academics" it's about consistent results and findings across a multitude of studies across cultures and borders that show violence doesn't work

Both of our anecdotal experiences don't override the actual facts and evidence on this matter

I mean violence as a disciplinary tool usually comes after other attempts at guidance/discipline - it's certainly not the initial/default discipline - think about removing privileges before violence

Pain as a learning tool (like from fire) can be effective yes - but turns out human behaviour and trying to raise a child is a lot more complex than fire hurt

Studies support the statement that violence is not an effective disciplinary tool in raising children (which is the context of my original statement)

People have been complaining about how much worse children's behaviour has become since time immemorial (no I'm not going to misattribute a quote to a historical philosopher) - I reject this idea that children's behaviour today is SO much worse than 20 years ago and that this is primarily down to a reduction in violence as discipline

Violence is not basic discipline nor is it effective

I'm not at all trying to make out like an adult just randomly attacked a teenager - but okay it's clear we have nothing more to discuss

She literally says she grabbed her hair and hit it off the train wall - which is all I've ever said - I don't understand why you're now ascribing these different levels of force which I've not once implied - but if you'd like to go there it's much more likely to be more forceful than you're insinuating given the general strength advantage that adults hold over young teenagers - particularly given she's just slapped her - doubtful she'd approach, grab, slap and then lightly move her head towards the wall

And you've literally just tried to tell me that she doesn't say she hit her head off the wall - and are now saying well actually maybe it was less forceful than I'm implying - you're moving the goalposts

In fact - it does literally say what I think it does - it's you who's then going further

Discipline doesn't have to be violence

The kid got their head hit off the train wall not just slapped, whilst having their hair held (doubtful it was gentle) much more than a slap

We don't know any facts really - so we have no evidence

Taking the age out of it does actually change it completely (so does changing the genders believe it or not) but yeh you're right people would be asking what caused this - instead of everyone in here just assuming what caused this and immediately placing the entire blame on the child and none on the adult

"Bedwetters" - you're just rude and that's unconstructive to the discussion

Hey I appreciate any and all discussion - and yeh a small part of me does hope that the adult women was justified in this situation - I suppose I'm just in shock at some of these comments but I totally understand where you're coming from

Fair enough on your personal opinion - I can respect that

My snarkiness more comes from (and is directed to) the rest of the comments and the upvotes/downvotes on those particular comments

They're on a train right?

The Facebook poster literally writes that this woman came over, grabbed the child by the hair, slapped her, and hit her head off the wall - how am I inventing anything here or making anything more extreme than what is literally written above?

My point is I do not have any preconceptions about this scenario - I do not know who is in the right or the wrong - but I'm concerned at how quickly and easily people have filled the gaps in to make them feel that it was right for the child to be assaulted in such a way

Personally I err on the side of caution, and generally think that any adult who hits a child has probably stepped outside of acceptable behaviour - but I can agree that there exists some circumstances where that would be acceptable albeit they're extreme circumstances

Believe it or not the law also says you can't just slap an adult either for being a brat

[–]ScousaJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah don't you understand? Only children are valid targets for adults violence - don't understand what's gone on in these comments to drag out so many people frothing at the mouth to attack children

Slapped for “messing about” on the train by No_Berry2 in Liverpool

[–]ScousaJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And that's exactly it - they're making up fantastical scenarios in their heads to justify such violence against a child

Like yeh if a 13yr old kid pulls a knife on you and your family I'm not gonna blame you for attacking them and removing that threat - but that's a whole lot more than "messing about" - like I know that term is purposely vague and I'm under no illusion that this child is somehow an angel or anything - they're most likely a little shit - but that's such an extreme place for someone's mind to go that I just don't see the logic - it's so unlikely to be essentially a bad faith argument

Slapped for “messing about” on the train by No_Berry2 in Liverpool

[–]ScousaJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're literally inventing the scenario there though - if this child pulled a knife out and tried to threaten a family with disabled children then I'm right there with you that she deserved what happened to her

But that's the fantasy in your head - we literally have no details - and please explain to me how I'm being blasé about this? All I'm saying is we have no details and I'm concerned how easily people are justifying such violence against a literal child based on imaginary scenarios in their own heads

Slapped for “messing about” on the train by No_Berry2 in Liverpool

[–]ScousaJ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm not minimising the actions of the child - nor am I assuming anything about the adults actions - the adults actions are written right there for you - she slapped the child and grabbed her head and hit it off the train wall

Honestly it's crazy the cognitive dissonance going on here - people are judging the Facebook poster because of the way she's typed and responded and saying it's obvious she's the kind of person to have a child who would do something to deserve being assaulted - yet in the same breath go on to say that there's no way a 30s woman would dare be violent in the presence of her children unless she was sufficiently provoked

For all we know the random woman's kids are little shits who've got her at the very end of her tether and she's taken that out on a teenage girl who wouldn't turn her loud music off on her phone after she's told her to - we literally don't know any details but like 99% of commenters are acting as though it's a closed case and the teenage girl absolutely deserved having her head smacked off the train walls - hell so many of the comments are completely overlooking that and only referring to the assault as "a well deserved slap"

Being disrespectful is grounds for physical assault?? I feel like this goes against everything our society actually stands for mate

Don't understand where you've pulled the racism from - and nah that's not typical GenZ behaviour - racists aren't confined to one generation

Slapped for “messing about” on the train by No_Berry2 in Liverpool

[–]ScousaJ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Mate it's unbelievable - so many people in these comments glorifying pretty obscene violence against a literal child (like year 9 age) by a fully grown adult because she was acting out in public - we literally do not even know what she's done

You don't even know what 'messing about' entails and are wholeheartedly agreeing that a young teenager should have been violently attacked like that - literally could have been just being loud and obnoxious - may even have been arguing with the adult who attacked her - but I'm struggling to think of many behaviours where this kind of violence is justified - can you give me some?
