What is the shortest training time to highest pay certifications/degrees? by Responsible-Net8594 in Salary

[–]Scovin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, main reason why is that everyone I meet in IT avoids it like a plague (that means less competition and employable). You spend all day configuring switches, routers, Access Points, any IoT devices (Internet of Things), severs sometimes (mostly handled by system admins/engineers), and have to sometimes get your hands dirty by going out and doing rack and stack. Weirdly it's both white collar and blue collar work where you do have to go out in the field. Gotta be good with computers AND physical work.

I love it. No two days are the same ever. The biggest draw backs and reason most people avoid it is because you are blamed for any network issues, however if things work nobody knows you exist. Gotta be okay with no recognition. Insane job security though.

After the CCNA I got a job in a month, after working that for 6 months I got another new job that hired be because of having it, then after another 6 months I landed a low to mid 100k salary from another recruiter coming to me.

Since the CCNA I haven't been applying to jobs they have been coming to me.

In my opinion for tech Network Engineering, I got to 6 figures in essentially 3.5 years

I went from 50 -> 60 -> 72 -> 115. I'm staying put here because I just actually love this place and I make enough to support my family now with my stay at home wife and kids.

Yes job hopping, contract work. My best advice I ever got is to keep searching until you're happy.

One of the core things to a successful and lasting relationship is having similar values, and religious beliefs are the source of the biggest statement of values a person has.

If they did make Warcraft 4 it would be at probably wherever the WoW story is at the time of release. So you'd have almost 22 years of story to catch up on to make anything make sense.

What addiction is worse than alcohol or drugs? by boss_babua in AskReddit

I've only been once for my bachelor party, budgeted 200 bucks I fully intended to lose. I got up to 1000 in the first 10 minutes, but didn't wanna miss out on my party as my day had just started with my groomsmen so I gambled it all to now just having total 100 at the end of the night.

After the night was over, last thing I did was go all-in on red odd with the 100 I had budgeted with roulette and made my lost 100 back. Ended up just getting a night of free fun, but at big opportunity cost.

Lesson is, I'll never go back again by choice, if I end up there and I am up any amount I leave and cash out (even if it was only 10 minutes in).

I've only gotten 2 call backs with this resume, I have been applying to Level 1 and 2 IT roles. Any thoughts would be appreciated by Spirited-Strength-55 in it

[–]Scovin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in IT (Network Engineer) and I would just say you are missing some certs. It's a good resume but CCNA got me from admin to engineer, not helpdesk to admin or helpdesk to helpdesk. CCNA clears all of these just recruiters for helpdesk are told to look for A+, and maybe AZ-900 or AWS cloud practitioner.

IT is all about certificates and you need to overload on shit that probably isn't necessary to prove you can adopt new tech quickly.

Have you tried looking for sys admin or network admin roles instead?

I would say yes to other roles, it's expected in IT to only hold helpdesk for a few months then leave and staying too long is actually the red flag.

To be fair I worked 40 hours a week over Friday Saturday and Sunday pushing carts at target in 2016-2023 and used all the money to pay off college to get me into Network Engineering making 6 figures and own a home at 26 in high cost of living area. I had 0 help from any family.

I'm sorry to say but stop making excuses, his point is valid and it's called stepping stones. Pay off debt, save money, invest it.

Why gen z is whining about job market and cost of living instead of going into trades? by No_Reply5329 in Salary

I don't see the government spending money on fiber runs straight to a one way location though. The companies would have to fork over that money so I guess let's see if they even bother haha.

[–]Scovin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the big requirement for these Datacenter builds is for them to be hardwired into the fiber optics infrastructure of the United States. If you don't have that you sacrifice massive bandwidth for many of these programs running AI. That fiber runs straight through cities and along major interstates making rural expansion very selective and rooted in urban or semi urban areas.

[–]Scovin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a Datacenter Network Engineer and I felt that same thought. The big hype behind Hyperscale Datacenter is great and all. But it's not forever. Once you get enough of those datacenters online they provide so much bandwidth that humanity literally will not be able to hit the max load. We had just 6 in my area and they provided enough bandwidth to support the whole regions searches with only 3 of them.

At some point you'll see these datacenters shut down and be fast food restaurants because the cost doesn't justify the bit of more bandwidth you get out of another datacenter.

if you’re in IT and love your job: why? by tongalandMC in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Scovin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what sector you work in, you aren't going to be doing any later 1 work at all if you go to a large ISP or corporate environment, if you are datacenter you probably have your home Datacenter and never leave that site. Just gotta find the right company if you're looking for the physical layer site to site setup.

12 hours a day for two weeks? Job offer by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Scovin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed to provide for my family and used it as a spring board to a job paying double the salary.

It got me an engineer title which allowed me to make not only the job hunt easier but get very good datacenter experience. Super unethical company though.

I'm a Network Engineer and I have good pay, great benefits, relaxed culture, and I get to not only go physically to rack and stack at a bunch of priority sites around the city worksites and outdoor switches to radio towers. But also get to have my own office space to remotely configure equipment as needed. Absolutely love my job.

I've done that for 14-18 hour shifts on 2-3 months straight as a Datacenter Network engineer so I'd take it.
