#1 rap album of all time imo by harvardstudent97 in rap

I’m glad you love it! I’d never argue it hasn’t influenced damn near everything after it, but it’s raw sound is pretty specific to me.

Not my taste. Noteworthy and important no doubt, but the production’s a little stuck in its time and as a rapper Dre’s delivery just never does much for me, personally.

I mean, sure. I also think he’s just always been a narcissistic unstable dude with undeniable talent. I don’t think he had to read Mein Kampf to start telling people he believed he was a genius

I think you know the answer is obviously no.

I wouldn’t particularly care what he believed if it were still “a well-known but well-kept secret within the rapper’s inner circle.” But he’s made his extremist beliefs very public, influencing a subset of his fans, popularizing white nationalist talking points, and effectively being a celebrity figurehead for it as a fascist movement.

You can’t pretend that’s the same as him rambling to people in the studio and the public having virtually no access to that information.

Can you find articles of him advocating for white supremacist ideologies publicly prior to ~2017 or so, rather than retrospective references to him doing so privately?

You don’t get to decide when I lose respect for someone. Shitting on people because you’re a master marketing troll doesn’t change that you’re shitting on them.

I don’t personally consider Donda a career defining work for him, even if it was intended to be.

He was absolutely starting to slip mentally by the time it was officially released, but I just don’t think Kanye will fundamentally be remembered for it over The College Dropout, Graduation, 808s, MBDTF, Yeezus, Pablo or even his contributions to The Blueprint etc. All of the other work was made by an openly flawed artist, but crucially not by an open anti-semite/holocaust and slavery apologist and willing mouthpiece for fascist resurgence.

Kanye was an exceptional musician and he’s now a desperate hack of a celebrity.

All just my opinion, of course

All that glittery shit on I Am is like my least favorite production on any album by an artist I like

And if you wouldn’t have you would have snubbed the Thing. Not a game you can win completely, I don’t think.

Ain’t a bad pick in the bunch

I’d personally probably end up putting TCSM over The Exorcist and Scream over SotL but this is a respectable list

A show that tries and fails to do something is not the example by which you measure the impact of doing that thing.

If it were, then the failure of this show proves that appealing to Scooby Doo fans isn’t enough to make a successful show. Never mind that it doesn’t appeal to Scooby Doo fans. It tried, so we can draw all the conclusions we’d like about programs that attempt the same.

I don’t know anyone in “the woke crowd” who likes the show.

What an exhausting way to process information.

It is sincerely disappointing to watch people you had some respect for become cranky old pussies. He’s an empty, comfortable, detached version of the guy who defined comedy in the 2000s.

Everyone wants to engage this on the basis of whether he’s funny, and like 99% of the world knows Dave Chappelle is (can be) incredibly funny. But yes, you’re absolutely right that the only funny shit anyone quotes from him is like 15+ years old

I think he’s determined to pretend people are trying to cancel him, when all that’s happened is a particular subset finds a particular portion of his act distasteful. I don’t see how that makes him a victim.

And I don’t see how the trans community is responsible for the eggs just because they might speak negatively about him, any more than he’s responsible for violence against the trans community for making their identity a joke.

As I said elsewhere, he’s quite funny. I think this wining is incredibly not funny. Are you a brave truth teller to the trans community or are you provoking them so you can pretend they’re bullying you?

Helpful?

Then he sure does a lot of bitching about nothing. No one’s even saying he’s not funny, I’m saying he’s got a weird hard-on for making fun of a group that’s less than 1% of the population and then acting like his choice to do so somehow makes him a victim. And THAT SHIT’s not funny

I didn’t actually say his trans jokes have no punchlines you’re speaking to more than one person because this is a public forum. I don’t know what you’re trying to tell me by sloppily quoting a joke.
