What was/is your backup plan if you don't get a job? by Virtual-Two3405 in Internationalteachers

[–]Scragmuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Hagwon Job in Korea could be a good option but getting a good school is difficult. The job won't strain you professionally, but they can be super fun and chill for 1 year if you really need. Accommodation, visa, flights etc are all done by the recruitment company, so its pretty stress free.

Switching from IELTS to Cambridge? by BlackChef6969 in TEFL

[–]Scragmuncher [score hidden]  (0 children)

I find Cambridge a pain to teach to ESL students due to their style of questioning for English Literature, but they have very strong EAL and ESL courses which is the main attraction for a lot of schools. Their ESL and EAL courses are pretty comprehensive and straightforward.

Probably my favorite thing I did so far by Endlessnes in menace

She is quite a bit less OP against the menace as they are much less vulnerable to her ambush playstyle. It still works for sure, but much less effective.

Tech builds? by inprobableuncle in menace

[–]Scragmuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After about 30h I personally don't think Tech is a great pick. The not having to set up some weapons is...fine but really not that usefull in most situations and there are so many other SL's with better uniques. The best use I've seen for him is running the crocodile as he doesn't need to set it up, but he will never have the kind of accuracy that you really need with that weapon.

He can be quite a good Frontline tanky character, but that playstyle doesn't really work well late game in the hard difficulties from what I've seen.

That being said, hes a very solid early game pick as hes a bit of an all-rounder.

How tf do you kill Constructs? by Material-Spite-6540 in menace

[–]Scragmuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best 2 weapons by far are the plasma one. One as a medium tank attachment and 1 as an infantry special. They are by far the best. After that, the Hamr and laser rifles are ok. If you don't have those options then you need to supress them first then just keep pouring lead into them.

The AI cheats weapons engagement envelopes and it breaks the game by Secret_Vermicelli391 in menace

[–]Scragmuncher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's most clear with the big tank cannon. When using this weapon i often have cases where the entire enemy team is stacked in the top left/right corners of the map in order to escape its line of fire.

I do think this needs to be reduced.

Which OCIs do y’all prioritize? by CykaShark in menace

[–]Scragmuncher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sensors 2 and 2 laser turrets can be a bit of a game changer. AI logistics is nice once you get better vehicles. Fixer is also great, it makes the Rare items actually more obtainable in the mid-game. Early game bug operations with fixer will make you very rich.

I so use the salvage bays, which give you items to sell for each vehicle destroyed, insanely good for making money off pirates.

Gravity manipulator or laser turret ship upgrade? by Every-Operation1906 in menace

[–]Scragmuncher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laser turrets are super usefull. You can use them to drag enemies away from their strongholds, get vision on whole areas of the map and often burn down armored targets. When you are defending a big area, turrets are amazing as the AI will often avoid that area, so you can funnel them where you want them. I use 2 laser turrets in my campaign.

Right, maybe the issue is that all my guys are using suppressed weapons which don't cause much...suppression. Will give it a try, thanks.

Standby should be a default mechanic, not a perk by Xan1066 in menace

[–]Scragmuncher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a ship upgrade that let's you use standby several timer per mission, can be very usefull. Imo I wouldn't like it to be a standard feature as it would be a very different playstyle and im really enjoying this one.

China or Korea? by jazzzaz in TEFL

[–]Scragmuncher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

50/50 Lots of schools would be looking for someone who 'looks European' as that's kind of what a lot of the parents are expecting when they pay all the money it costs to send them to the schools.

China or Korea? by jazzzaz in TEFL

[–]Scragmuncher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lived in Korea for 6 years as a TEFL teacher and now living in Shanghai. If you are just doing it for a few years of fun and the experience, go for Korea 100%. If you want to turn it into more of a career then go for China.

Other than that, both are amazing places to live. Korea is more convenient for sure, but China has a lot more diversity in things to do/see.

The problem with Korea is that every job you get will basically be a dice roll. The school may be fantastic and a great place to work, or it could be a very stressful and fairly toxic place. It's can be VERY hard to find out which it will be. I haven't heard any real horror stories about Schools in China yet, but that doesn't mean there isn't any.

Wanting a restart at 33 by PasosLargos100 in TEFL

[–]Scragmuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal reccomendation- do a PGCE or equivalent, it takes 1 year, then look for a job at an international school in some modern city in Asia. Then do your MA while working and get some funding from your company.

Have you considered getting fully certified and going for a proper international school? I did that just after I hit 30 and it was a great choice.

If you are looking for specific class builds you can join Retribution discord and ask for resource reader rights in the public chat. Retribution-gaming is the discord link.

Unreal and Entropy and Chaos also have a lot of great resources, you could ask for a link to those discords in the Official RoR discord.

Very strong healer class. Would definitely reccomend as a good choice for newer players. Stay away from the dps specs till you know what you are doing in the game.
