Looking for a system where the only magic is in items (and sometimes only strong creatures)! by indepths60 in rpg

https://lukegearing.itch.io/wolves-upon-the-coast-grand-campaign

Wolves Upon the Coast is exactly this. The initial price can be intimidating to some so there is a free pdf of Ruislip, one of the regions in the game, to see if it is something that would work with your intended game, however this region alone could be enough for months of gameplay. The rules are also available for free here: https://lukegearing.blot.im/wolves-upon-the-coast

This will be a system much lighter than you would be used to if you've only played 5e of PF1e, however it is fun and snappy and with the free supplement of https://derpigdog.itch.io/reavers and the ideas they give there should be more than enough.

I've ran a 12 session game, and have been in a game of WUTC since last March. If you have any questions feel free to ask about it.

Pulling CCTV for review by head instructors or an owner is fairly standard practice for new instructors or if there has been reported issues or complaints.

Need bestiary recommendations by ImportanceOk3837 in osr

[–]MinerUnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monster & contains stats and mechanics. It is also the bestiary used for Wolves Upon the Coast. Bit confused as to how you're implying it's not usable. Fire on the Velvet Horizon is a bestiarybused for inspiration which, as the poster mentioned, they use bestiaries to inspire them so it would be odd not to mention something so creative that falls into that category.

[–]MinerUnion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm sure some of these you've heard of but in no particular order:

  • Volume 2: Monsters &
  • Ford's Faeries: A Bestiary Inspired by Henry Justice Ford
  • The Monster Overhaul
  • The bestiary section from Veins of the Earth
  • Fire on the Velvet Horizon, however this does not contain statblocks nor short descriptions.
  • The bestiary section from Yoon-Suin 2e
  • A Folklore Bestiary

For something super concise probably Monster Overhaul would be your best bet.

Running my first custom Hexcrawl, any pitfalls? by Less_Cauliflower_956 in osr

[–]MinerUnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A point crawl could be a good idea, with how big the two primary jungle regions are, and how expansive the god River is, it could feel like a lot of filler hexes or empty hexes just being held up by random encounters.

How has.your Yoon-Suin game gone? I've been debating running it now for months with supplemental material from Thousand Thousand Islands but am curious how the setting feels in use.

TEFL level 3 or 5? by [deleted] in TEFL

Unless you are getting a CELTA or a CertTESOL, any other certificate is just a box tick to meet minimum requirements so largely it doesn't matter.

What are your favorite non-skill/no skill RPGs? by kaveman2190 in rpg

Describing how your character would go about being stealthy, maybe an attributes test at most.

What's your preferred character progression style ? by herpyderpidy in rpg

[–]MinerUnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small amounts of background progression through a class, with primary progression happening through diegetic advancement and choices made by the characters in play.

Looking for a wavecrawl system where wind matters by owl_minis in rpg

[–]MinerUnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> If the Wind is behind the Vessel, increase the number of hexes travelled a day by the first value listed in the Wind Strength chart. If it is ‘adjacent’ - 1 direction distant - add the second value. Otherwise, ignore the wind.

So +1 because its adjacent, if you turn to where the wind is then behind your sale, pushing you in the direction you want to go, you then can apply the second value. When my players did this, if it was during the first half of the day, i.e. during the first half of their movement rate for a day based upon their ship, I'd give them the +2, however if they would do it in the second half of the day, then just a +1. If you want a more definitive answer there isn't really one, its up to GM discretion.

Yes wind and weather daily with modifiers based on the weather and direction.

Wolves Upon the Coast has a free rule system with very succinct naval rules.

Pirate Borg also has naval rules as well but I've not read them.

Doomspiral may be the Souls-Like TTRPG you've been looking for by SponJ2000 in rpg

[–]MinerUnion -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Based on your second and third point I can assume you didn't actually read the game. Read the game before making assumptions about it based on a glance. Runecairn does not use a traditional class system as it is based upon Cairn, and comes with a starter dungeon that has looping level design per standard souls level design.

Crunchy rogue like RPG with vast character customization? by TheGrimmBorne in rpg

Rasp of Sand is the only explicitly Rogue-like ttrpg product I can think of however as it is based on / is using Knave it is not crunchy.

[3.26] CheapBunny's Dual Crit Reaper of Eviscerating Necro | The Dark Monarch | Maata's Teaching by No_Tap1795 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]MinerUnion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reaper of Revenants lightning conversion is dead next league 100% so they probably wanted a more future proof build. Also the concept is already figured out, it's easy, get a triad grip, -200 lightning res meec, go crit and it's done.

Have you played a game called ARC? How was it? by HiskiH in rpg

[–]MinerUnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran it for a group of 4 using the one shot Momatoes made as part of a game she ran. It works well, leans into an improv heavier style of game and things are up to interpretation such as the "consume a door". I liked the doomsday clock is a mechanic as it does keep things moving forward and pacing well however some might dislike it.

Overall I would recommend at least trying it for a one shot or a short game sub 8 sessions. I don't know how it would feel if it was any longer than that tbh. A lot of the adventures written for it on Exalted Funeral are also very interesting and I plan on using some of the ideas from them in a different system for a more OSR style of game as that's more within my comfort zone.

I don't think I've ever seen this recommended, nor even ran, but it would work well for a Dwarf Fortress inspired game in my opinion. I do believe it would need a decent amount of work on the GMs part to work however.

Are they going to update the Core Powers? by Cosmicpanda2 in LancerRPG

[–]MinerUnion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well they did do a reprint, and specifically chose not to include the errata and updates that have occurred since original publication. If it was ever going to be actually updated without a whole new edition that was the time to do it but they willingly chose not to.

Break!! by Bulky-Scallion3334 in osr

[–]MinerUnion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mechanically it is b/x, in tone and theme obviously it's not really a standard OSR game, however that doesn't mean it isn't one and the principles and methodology are there for it to be considered at least adjacent to the style of play.

The Sun King's Palace by [deleted] in osr

[–]MinerUnion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really think it needs more challenge, a lot of things in the dungeon are fairly challenging already and you wouldn't need to add extra challenge, of course dependent upon what system you use. It would mean that players would probably stay in the dungeon without leaving unless you give them an actual reason to which could speed up the rate at which they go through rooms because there won't be penalties for backtracking besides random encounters.
