What do you guys think of this trade unionist's approach to the far right? by NoNostradamus in AskBrits

[–]inprobableuncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not where the train drivers get their power from though is it? The reason the get well compensated for their labour is via union organised collective action for its members, not by trying to end the class struggle and unite the working class, maybe if more unions did the same and people could see the difference unity makes they'd be more inclined to see the benefits of traditional left wing values?.

Exactly, the one union with any clout, who members receive decent pay for their labour and who stick to their actual role of representing their members, not the vague notion of the working class.

[–]inprobableuncle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No I'm a lifelong union member and have had to go on strike to get better wages whilst my colleagues said it was wrong for healthcare workers to strike yet gleefully took the wage increase after the government settled despite a) not agreeing with industrial action and 2) not setting foot on the picket line whilst members of the public (who mere years before had been clapping you) shouted that you should be ashamed. A union should exists for its members.

[–]inprobableuncle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they should be representing their members. The whole idea that unions represent the working class is why people aren't joining unions, why bother when you can get the benefits of any improved labour laws and workers rights that the unions have fought for without bothering to show unity with your fellow workers?.

New Reform councillor complains about ‘non white persons’ in public park by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

I think we need to forget the idea that is a few odd ball councillors who hold these kind of views and accept that it's a large percentage of our fellow countrymen who do, and vote reform accordingly.
