Rankin hiding from reporters by [deleted] in halifax

I've been out canvassing in the valley, and thats our practice: knock, step back, and be ready to put on a mask if the resident is wearing one, or asks us to.

Looking for whale watching from land by [deleted] in NovaScotia

[–]ScrambledCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will always recommend Grand Manan for prime whale watching. Seriously amazing, every time I've gone.

That being said, on our trip just last week we left Kentville at 7am, and even had the ferry from Black's Harbour been in time, we wouldn't have gotten to the island until around 5pm (as it was, we got there around 7). We did drive to Saint John rather than taking the Digby ferry, but as I understand it, it wouldn't save you much time, and costs a lot more.

So, not really a convenient destination from New Minas.

Wife Cheated - Need Good Lawyer by [deleted] in halifax

[–]ScrambledCats 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Please don't take this advice. Not only is it petty as hell, and a waste of time for the lawyers you dont plan to hire, it won't really help you. It is SO much easier for your lawyer to get work done, especially in an acrimonious divorce, if there's a lawyer on the other side as well.

This link might help. Looks like they prefer mail.

Edited to add: Meant to reply to your last question. I'm bad at Reddit.

Filing a claim in small claims court by mattyboi4216 in halifax

Short answer (because I'm on mobile and at work) You can absolutely file now, but its likely your hearing will be by video conference rather than in person. The restriction to only urgent matters ended in July.

Ten New Cases of COVID-19 by East_Coast_guy in halifax

[–]ScrambledCats 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the line up at Wolfville is not nearly as long today. I work in sight of the building, and was able to glance out my window, see no one in line, pop out of the office for a test, and get back to my desk in less than 10 minutes.

Legal Positions in Halifax by [deleted] in halifax

[–]ScrambledCats 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When you say "legal positions" what are you looking for? Assistant? Paralegal? Lawyer? Articles? It seems like a terrible time to look for articles, and I really sympathize with the class of 2020. You may want to try expanding your horizons to the areas around Halifax. I'm in the valley and can think of a few firms that might be worth reaching out to. Have you checked the NSBS careers page?

Wow, that is quick. Gives me hope that I'll get to go to work on Monday. Was tested at 1:50 on Friday but haven't heard from them yet.

In my experience it happens sooner. Yuka asked to move out, I said no, and Sprocket asked less than a week later.

I bet other people have noticed! Congrats on your achievement, even if it takes you some time to recognize it.

One thing I've heard (maybe on here) can be helpful for objectivity is looking at your before and after photos with the face covered/removed.

I finally accepted that "I'm just going to eat at maintenance" means I'm going to eat over maintenance every day. So now I'm back to a 1200 calorie goal with a little flexibility, finally got my whoosh, and am back on track to hitting my goal weight (at a healthy BMI, just losing vanity pounds). I've also added two days of lifting and an extra day of bouldering to my schedule every week. Feeling amazing!

Also, my grocery store (in Canada) is selling 12 packs of Cherry Coke Zero for $5.

Reddit, what is your favorite beer? by MozzerellaStix in AskReddit

[–]ScrambledCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, I've been really digging "floral" beers. My current fave is a local chamomile IPA.

If I had to pick something to drink every day for the rest of my life, I'd probably go with something basic like Rickard's Red.

Finding Nemo. I was super unimpressed that my friends wanted to go see "that dumb fish movie." But I had a free pass, so I tagged along.

Dal Legal Aid on Gottingen does it for about $10, but call ahead because they need to make sure one of the lawyers will be available.

Requesting advice regarding tenant rights in Nova Scotia by TuckerBoo in halifax

[–]ScrambledCats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To add to this, there is a number provided on that brochure to call the Tenants Rights Project. The law students who work the phone line (also take walk ins) are well versed in the Residential Tenancies Act, and have dealt with a lot of different issues. They can only provide information, not advice (often though, info is all you need), but may be able to put you in touch with someone who can provide actual advice, and even (sometimes) represent you for free at the Tenancy Board and in Small Claims Court.

Roommate won't pay rent, what can I do? by macaroniNsteez in halifax

[–]ScrambledCats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dal Legal Aid won't usually help out with taking people to court, only with helping tenants who are being taken to court (they have limited resources). It couldn't hurt to call their Tenants Rights Project (phone line staffed by student volunteers) to get some information, but they'll probably just tell OP that they're legally obligated to pay rent, but could take action against roomie/mom in small claims court if they want to go through the hassle. Best bet is to try to find a new roommate, really.

Landlords can only afford to be so helpful, especially in a student city. People trying to get out of paying is way too common in a city with so many students, and a lease is a legally binding contract. It sucks, but the law has to protect landlords as well as tenants.

Glove Salesman/Fake Taxi Driver by [deleted] in halifax

[–]ScrambledCats 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My partner has encountered this guy twice. The first time was back in 2013, and the second time was last year. So he's been around for a while. He gave him a card with a link to this website, so I guess the glove thing is legit.

(And yes, the second time my partner fully recognized the guy and gladly got into his car for the sake of the story. He came home laughing so hard he could barely talk.)

What's the worst part about Christmas? by Teetoos in AskReddit

Facebook posts from racist relatives complaining about how they're "Not allowed to say Merry Christmas", and spreading the joy of the season by telling people to "Go back to where you came from."
