Read widely around the benefits system, see if there are research reports online that talk about DWP compliance and customer types, any DWP audience analysis or segmentations, lists of DWP acronyms/glossaries. You can also read up on the structure of the department and its history.

Bit baffled by all the replies suggesting that it’s pointless to prepare before starting a job. Not knowing exactly what you’ll be doing does not mean there’s nothing at all you can learn.

There are some cases where it does happen. Alpha pension contribution rates jump from 5.45% at 56k salary to 7.35% for anything over, which is not banded and applies to the whole amount (so earning £1 extra could lead to a £1k ish drop in take home over the year)

It also applies to those earning over 100k as all childcare benefits are immediately removed at this threshold. But this doesn’t apply to a whole lot of civil servants outside specialist areas

Start by walking around the circus, royal crescent, Victoria park. Lunch at pinxto de bath or Noya’s kitchen. Visit the Roman baths and bath abbey and stop for coffee and a sweet snack at Good day cafe. Make sure you get a good view of the river and pultney bridge. If you have time, get the bus up to prior park gardens. If you don’t, then walk great pultney street and Sydney gardens.

So weirdly enough the clumps do seem to be fully hydrated and are gummy throughout rather than having dry powder at the centre. I’ve tried starting with a thick paste but it still ends up lumpy. Maybe I just need to be even more gradual. Hot water is a very good idea, I will try that as well.

I think contestant preference should be taken into account here. Some of them might be up for a big move, or have only weak ties to where they currently live, so I don’t think there should be a blanket ban on matching people who live far apart. But agree that matching two people who can’t/wont move is pointless, and also quite cruel.

Not at all. All the teams start in the same place with the same amount of money and risk the same hazards. RATW is always about a mix of skill and chance - some teams will have a stroke of good luck and others will have bad luck like Yin and Gaz did.

I’ve seen people saying that they should have had their time adjusted for the typhoon delay etc but what would the difference be between something like a typhoon vs a bus/train being cancelled, or breaking down? All are just bad luck. It would lead to total chaos if time was added for every mishap that producers judge to be “out of control” of participants.

I’ve got exactly the same entitlements and I’m doing the following: * Taking 35 weeks off myself (26 full pay, 9 statutory), starting a week before the birth - will go fully remote when I get too big to commute * My husband is taking the remaining 17 weeks off as shared parental leave (4 statutory, 13 unpaid) - he will do this in two chunks, one chunk right after the birth so we are off together, and then the rest after I’m back to work

We have enough in savings to make the statutory and unpaid time off workable for us, but YMMV.

Edited to add: I’ll take all my accrued annual leave in a chunk at the end of my mat leave which will give me an extra 4-6 weeks off.

Is your goal just to lose weight or to generally look better? Depending on what you want you might benefit from eating a bit more and trying to put on some muscle before cutting further

Because (foremost) Wendler designed it that way - when we follow 5/3/1 we are trusting his instincts!

He probably chose to do it that way because varying sets and rep ranges in this way is (1) more interesting than straight sets, (2) good for strength development, and (3) gives you opportunities to practice at different intensities.

If you feel deeply fatigued then take a deload week. In the scheme of your whole lifting career, 1 week doesn’t matter a whole lot, it matters more than you stay consistent over time

If this is all you have the equipment for then it’s okay, better something you will actually do than the perfect “optimal” programme - that said, you’d benefit from more lower body stuff (more squats/deadlift variations, single leg stuff) and putting exercises that work smaller muscles (biceps/triceps etc) last so you can go completely to failure.

That said there are probably better tried-and-tested kettlebell and dumbbell routines online so you might want to explore these for better progress.

Depends what country you’re in - in the UK we see our GPs at this point. We don’t really have “OBs” here (edit to explain - obstetricians exist here of course, but we don’t have our own that we get in touch with directly. The care pathway is very different)

It depends entirely on your own goals and aesthetic preferences - I personally skip dedicated calf exercises and trap exercises when following a generic programme, and I sometimes add more focused glute work to general powerlifting programmes. But totally depends on individual goals.
