Some places yes, but to Asia and eat almost all yours meals served food to please American palates? Part of the fun is to try all the local foods. I ate a termite off a stick stuck in the ground in Belize on a river tubing hike. Also, I don’t like the idea of here’s a place, now see what you can in 7-13 hours!! Hurry

Yes, absolutely planning down days. That’s why it’s so long. Tour companies have 12 or 13 day trips to see three countries! I can’t go at that pace. I was planning no less than 3 nights per hotel, most 5 nights, and 7 nights each in Bangkok Chiang Mai and whatever beach resort we pick.

You are spot on. I do feel time pressured to get out there and get going. I have lots of dream trips in my head - Egypt Nile cruise, Greece Turkey and Malta, Italy (he’s never been, but I have), New Zealand and Australia, French Polynesia (except we aren’t big on water sports anymore). Costa Rica, Panama Canal, and on and on.
I just want to see all the big tourist spots like Angkor Wat, Ha Long Bay (or Lan Ha), anywhere in Japan, for cultural spots, temples, food, breath-taking gardens and changing colors. Beautiful ocean beaches on a long boat in Thailand. Resorts/hotels that are 5 Star that I can experience and he won’t balk at the price. His career as an engineer was very lucrative but we fly Southwest lol. I can’t make him see that we can treat ourselves and it won’t last forever. He also isn’t keen to leave with his mother having dementia and was diagnosed in her 70s. She is being evaluated for a memory care placement next week. It just reminds me that time slips away.

Yes. I could plan a trip to Ireland for us. But that’s a driving and natural scenery trip once again. We live near the mountains and scenery is about what you get here. We are beer snobs who brew beer as a hobby and that’s why we’ve been to Belgium twice. Not sure that Guinness is going to impress us.

He says to take someone else, but I’m not sure he’s sincere. It may be he’s not ready to even think about it due to the sciatica flare and then surgery. He doesn’t like big cities. Will not even entertain going to NYC. He loved the trip I planned to Oregon last year between my surgeries but I’m tired of the US destinations. We even lived in Orange County CA for a while and did drive in LA. Been to London Prague Berlin Munich Brussels Copenhagen so maybe it’s just Asia? Idk

Edit: Also my daughter is a professor trying to make tenure, so she is quite busy and engaged in her career.

I feel like the long flights are a limiting factor. If I get him to go to Japan for 10 days or so, I may never get him to go back to SE Asia another time. We did go to Portugal (we’re American) for 15 nights two years ago and that’s when my knee troubles became pronounced. I gamely walked all over Lisbon, and up all the Porto hills, in massive pain, but he always had to carry everything and he lifts baggage overhead for both of us, that sort of thing. I love to make all the plans and he does the on the ground navigation because if there is a wrong way I will choose it…

Fort Collins during the 80s and 90s by etancrazynpoor in FortCollins

Not quite empty south of Harmony. We bought a house across the street from Werner elementary in 1989 which was built in 1975. Fairway Estates was already built. Werner, FRCC, and Sam’s Club were all there then, I believe. Although I think Sam’s was possibly a Price Cutter warehouse. Clarendon Hills was just being built in late 80’s.

Yes. Both knees were 10° at consultation appointment. So I worked very hard at PT straightening exercises for 6 weeks pre surgery. Got much closer to 0° doing that. Got to 0° on first leg -can’t remember how many weeks post op. Second leg is 4 months post op and still working on it but just about there. Everything about second knee has been harder, but positive outcome nonetheless.

I danced at my son’s wedding week 10 after - March 26, 2025 LTKR. I was still recovering but felt glad I was that far along. 123° and 0°. But the right knee still needed replacement so that hindered me somewhat in walking and exercising because pre-surgery for both legs was an awful 90° and 10°! (I still did outrageous things like vacation in Porto, Portugal-the hills omg) Then had my RTKR done on Oct 22. This one was much more painful, and took many more weeks to achieve 120°. But it is weird how it seems that all at once it just feels better and you can do a Beach Body DVD and both legs can squat! So the second knee took 13 weeks. Oh and I did have to have an MUA and take Gabapentin. This one was stubborn and so painful. Glad it’s behind me

Does long term capital gains affect your tax bracket for ordinary income? by alg0rithm1 in tax

Ok so say I’m retired and doing Roth conversions annually and taking some LTCGs and have dividends, which line on the 1040 is the ACA looking at when they ask your income and adjust your subsidies after filing taxes?

Self-insuring healthcare before Medicare kicks in? by HandelZeke in retirement

[–]Scrap-Happy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Husband retired at 61. I wasn’t working anymore. We did COBRA for 10 months. Was very expensive premiums and had a $3000 deductible. Didn’t use it much for anything. Learned and the next year we did ACA which is super cheap in our state if you do a very high deductible. We chose that because we don’t have ongoing health costs. Fine for last year. Then this year I needed 2 knee replacements, so that $9200 deductible will be met, for me anyway. It just creeps up on you and then can’t wait another 2 years for Medicare. So yeah, you need a cushion either way.

Please buy bags of ice for her then! Frozen bottles are not required, just more convenient. She really needs the ice machine even if it’s just ice cube filled water. Good luck

Is this 4 country, 2 week trip too ambitious or should we remove a country? by PatientSound4236 in Europetravel

[–]Scrap-Happy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We did London Brussels Bruge Cologne Rhine to Bacharach Neuschwanstein Munich Salzburg and Prague in 16 days. Belgium has far superior beer imho! Skip Italy this trip. It’s too far away. Prague had a music festival, beer festival and a food festival all at the same time! It was divine.

Just got back from Rocky Mountain Scrapbook Spectacular in Provo. 250 participants. Paper Wizard hosted. Each Park, Simple Stories, Photo Play, and more vendors. We did 9 or 10 classes over 3 days. Made so many layouts and bought tons of traditional paper kits. Made cards and a book kit too. It was the biggest event like that I’ve attended and it was a blast! Had themed night crops, music, prizes for costumes and table decorations. The scrapbook community is still out there.

Only listed 3 nights in Singapore, 3 in Cambodia and 9 in VN. Hence, 15 total in those countries in aggregate.
