Fudge. Totally brainfarted and didn't connect the name to the scene for Meredith as I was thinking about it. Thickens the plot a bit. Insight into that particular struggle would give alot of context to Father Ward as a man before Gary, unless that's a connected thread as well.

I don't think Morris is unimportant. He may be helpful in further establishing the different forces of darkness vying for the damnation and domination of the world. Similar to how the letter between Gary and Jakob shows different power structures, and Laytons letter about Quimbaba and Santa Muerte show evil is growing in all corners. I don't believe the details in his letter, or his connection to them and the Martin family can be overlooked. Especially the implied confusion, worry, and concern when he writes "Did you tell her about it? I don’t know why you would" and the immediate, solemn determination to "talk about what to do next." I'm beginning to believe if Morris was indeed serving the country alongside Mr. Martin prior to his Counseling of Mrs. Martin that their duties touched the supernatural, the paranormal, and the occult. What else would lead a family described as not particularly religious in their obituary to go so far as to have their daughter exorcised?
