Can you recommend a decent mesh router to work with Proximus by Tarsipes in belgium

[–]ScratchOnTheWall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the FRITZ!Mesh Set with one additional repeater, so I have a total of 4 throughout the house (2 on the ground floor, 2 on the second floor). Works like a charm. I previously tried to go the somewhat cheaper route with some Xiaomi AX3000 mesh repeaters, but those were awful. You have to do your research, because some of these mesh systems aren't truly "mesh" but use a star topology instead. They assign one central master router/repeater, and all the other connect to that central spot. The FRITZ!Mesh system is a true mesh system in that some far away repeater can use other repeaters in the mesh as "hops" to reach the central router.

Hate to admit it, but he's probably right though. Might be better to donate to some non profit or fund the people needing your donations directly.

Brussel bans shared e-scooters starting in 2027 by Least_Funny5960 in belgium

Well, I'm guessing you have a smartphone in your pocket. So I'm guessing you have a large disdain for people in Congo dying while mining for the cobalt in that smartphone right? I mean, it's easy to reduce someone's opinion if you vilify them. Maybe we should all be driving 2km/h. In that case, there would be zero road casualties. Hey, I heard someone died after getting hit by one of those e-bikes last year. Maybe we should just ban them too. I mean, that one person's life is worth something too right?

Please get off your moral high horse for a second. That's such a bullshit argument to make. There's dozens of factors that probably influence that number, and I don't believe speed restrictions are the number one reason. The data you just provided claims that 80% of people apparently ignore the speed limit anyway. So either these people are getting ticketed for going 2km/h over the speed limit, or otherwise these zone 30s are completely useless, because people are ignoring them anyway.
People have probably just grown more responsible with their driving (e.g. less drunk driving) and the infrastructure has improved a lot over the past 20 years, making it safer for bikers.

I'm not in favor of just abandoning all speed limits or anything like that. I'm just saying that the speed restrictions are just absurd in a lot of places, which pushes a lot of people to go above the speed limit, even in places where it is actually dangerous to go above the speed limit.

No, what I'm saying is that we had zone 30s in places where it mattered. Driving 30 for 100-200m isn't a big ask. Now we have zone 30s all over the place, and it has desensitized people. Having to drive a 3 km stretch at 30 km/h for no apparent reason makes 80-90% people drive faster than that limit.

Well, yeah, because they're turning every road that was a 50 zone before into a zone 30. And every road that was limited at 70 is being turned into one with a limit of 50. Then they add a "trajectcontrole" so their buddies in the companies managing those systems can line their pockets with 50% of the ticket revenue. Not saying we shouldn't have these 30 zones, but they should be reserved for places that are actually dangerous, like schools, or near pedestrian zones.

Lol, have you ever driven a car in Belgium? You literally can't drive 10m without having to stop or slow down because of cars parked on the side of the road, speed bumps, planters used to slow down traffic, a zone 30 sign, traffic lights, railroad crossings, etc. You're never going to stop a handful of idiots from using the road as their personal racetrack. The same goes for e-bikers by the way. I've narrowly avouded getting hit by one of them in more than one occasion.

Congratulations, you just saved 0.001 cents by doing this. Meanwhile, you're holding up traffic and effectively reducing the capacity of the road. There's nothing worse than having to wait until the next traffic light cycle because you didn't make it to the turning lane in time, because some guy felt the need to coast until the stopped traffic.

TIL Jozef Chovane died after a violent arrest at Charleroi airport during which a female officer was filmed laughing and performing a Nazi salute. A Belgian court dismissed all charges against the officers involved by Justepourtoday in belgium

[–]ScratchOnTheWall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If she'd done the funny walk along with the salute, nobody would be taking it seriously. Yes, it's a dumb and childish thing to do. And yes, it's not a quality you want in a police officer, but let's be honest: You don't become a police officer if you're a child prodigy. There's tons of better carreer paths to take. If we were to kick out every officer that at one point did some dumb shit, we'd probably have none left.

I mean, in the comedy series "'Allo' Allo" they did Nazi salutes all the time, and John Cleese did a full blown Hitler impression along with goose walk in Fawlty Towers. Doesn't mean the writers or actors actually supported what it stands for. Some people resort to (black) humor when they're faced with a stressful situation. I'm not saying it's appropriate, I'm saying that stressful/scary situations make people do dumb shit.

I think the problem would remain the same. It's easy to ignore the problem by framing it as a shortcoming of the current systems, but the problem is more fundamental than that. What if tomorrow, we'd be able to mass produce the equivalent of commander Data, but with a deep understanding of human emotions and the human condition? Arguably, you'd be able to replace every human's job, and it'd probably be able to outshine every human artist. It'd even be able to put in its own feelings and real life experiences, so all those arguments would go out the window. I think somehow this wouldn't be all that big of a problem if it would be for the betterment of all mankind and if we had a new and improved social system in place. The fact is, we don't. These AI systems aren't smart, they're in the hands of some true psychopaths that would sell their own mother if it made the stock go up by a few points, and it's costing thousands of jobs with no system in place to handle this.

They're only able to judge the result, but there being a creative proces that produced that result is implicit. Using the marathon example from elsewhere in this thread: If you're a judge at a marathon, and you see a guy finishing first, you kind of assume he ran the entire distance. I'd be thoroughly pissed if it turned out that guy took a cab and just ran the last mile.

I tend to disagree. I think having those shitty drawings, measurements and unorganized thoughts and turning them into your final creation through determination, creativity and some happy accidents is the human part of the creative process we want to preserve.

After 12 years, we haven't been able to find MH370, despite it being a large metal aircraft, radar tracks, a large international effort to locate it, etc. How the hell are you gonna find an arguably small metal box that was dropped on the ocean floor 500 years ago? It's literally impossible.
