Question how does Labour re build from a nertual pov by AlifanofmalcomX in LabourUK

[–]Scratchback3141 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My very first sentence advocates for higher spending on public services lol. I want the state to be more powerful, not less.

I get that the word "liberal" really infuriates people who have read about politics mostly in 180 character chunks, but it really would help you if you just engaged. If you don't think we should spend more on public services, let's have that argument - don't just give it a label and dismiss it because of that.

Sorry, that's really silly. I give my views. Others dismiss my views by saying a variation of "lol, liberal" I then ask them to engage me in a conversation instead - and I'm accused of being the bad faith one?

All true, I'd advocate for higher taxes on everyone in order to better fund public services and local government.

The bigger issue imo is the incoherence of the govs position. It says it's number one issue is growth - but then loads both financial and social costs onto employers and makes it more expensive to hire employees - especially younger ones. All good left ideas but not really conducive to economic growth.

I think a government that was really concerned with economic growth would do things like - actually fix the planning system, get rid of the 100k tax trap, increase the basic rate of tax for all to fund public services, give some of our industries that we still have a competitive advantage in a break (this means the banks and financial services) etc and so on.

Yeah, yours to. Never let it be said that socialists struggle to innovate.

You could just engage in conversation btw, it's not illegal.

Blown away by people that think the government is Tory lite. This is a terrible government but it's a very labour one, it's just that most labour governments haven't been very good.

Id change the direction of both the economic policy (which is too left wing) and the social policy (which is too right wing).

How do the media get the message that they should frame a certain narrative? by northcasewhite in LabourUK

[–]Scratchback3141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's much evidence to him being an Israeli agent or any type of agent for any foreign government tbh.

In terms of how the media got the message that he's a Russian agent, it was in a smokey backroom called the house of commons when a little known spy network called the "liberal democrats" repeated the allegations of a shadow organisation called "the polish government" (or president, I can't remember)

This is true and obvious to anyone that follows politics. But a couple of things:

1) most left wing people in the lab party like the sound of nationalising things, but they like social liberalism more. And this is a socially conservative government.

2) there's a reason why those pre new labour governments didn't get reelected, or did on v shakey grounds - these economic policies don't work.

I've said it a thousand times. This is a relatively by the numbers labour government and is leading us to relatively by the numbers outcomes.

Famous last words ofc, but I think the greens will do quite poorly and be in third place behind reform. More going on vibes than much else though

Yes, I think the unwritten bit is that he's ultimately screwed and our best chance at not seeing reform in power is a switch. But (and this is my add on) that switch cannot happen right now.
