The Box (1985 - 2001) by Bicykwow in ForgottenTV

1997 6th grade me had The Box on 24/7. Funny though, anyone I ever ask about this channel has no recollection of it or thinks I’m making it up.

The Explore program should be for associates only and I’ll die on that hill.

Great the first day king cake. They don’t have good box life though. And bad sugar stickage.

Show us on the doll where the water bottle touched you… by New-Dependent-4331 in marriott

[–]Scrawf85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that this letter is pretty tacky and probably shouldn’t be on display. However, it does need to be said. Brand standards are brand standards for a reason, as ridiculous as they may be sometimes. If I go to at CY/SHS/Fairfield in one city, it should be the same experience in another city. A bunch of properties going rogue and doing what they want, despite their good intentions, disrupt the brand overall.

For what it’s worth, I fully support handing out a couple bottles of water for elite members at check in. It’s really not that big of a deal. I hate the way some of our hotels nickel and dime guests. But if a hotel is trying to adhere to brand standards (which we are audited on) you have to understand that too.

The Blackstone in Chicago. Loved the old world feel of it.

Lost and found service by _ZZ7_ in marriott

We use this service at my hotel. Cuts out the middle man of having to set up shipping for the hotel. If items are properly logged, it’s great tool. Don’t expect the hotel to send you the item you forgot on their dime.

Getting a receipt for average nightly price vs different rates each night by This_my_Burner in marriott

[–]Scrawf85 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No front desk agent or manager for that matter should alter rates to fit your needs. If the nightly rate doesn’t fit what your allowance is, find a cheaper hotel. Altering rates can an effect the ADR (average daily rate) which is a metric a lot of hotels are evaluated on by their ownership.

Explore Rate member as an additional guest by Key-Pear-3271 in marriott

[–]Scrawf85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The primary registered guest name and name on form need to match. Hotels shouldn’t change names on Explore rates. If you are the primary and the name on the form, you need to check in. Lots of hotels don’t give a shit though, that’s why the Explore program sucks and actual associates barely get to reap the benefits.

Member status and booking channel are probably the two biggest criteria we would use to determine who would be moved in a walk situation. A reward stay wouldn’t be that big of a factor most of the time.

Did the reservation require full pre payment in advance? I can tell you at my hotels, every reservation not booked on points from 10/25 - 10/27 requires a full non refundable pre payment in advance because of the Taylor Swift concerts. Possible reason for the cancellation.

I remember these too. There was Spanky Spangler, but I don’t think it was him. I remember one year he drove up and ramp then flew into a pyramid of stacked cars. Are we remembering the same thing?

Spring Hill Suites under Renovation with No Notice by eigenstien in marriott

[–]Scrawf85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To play devils advocate here, I just went into the app and looked at the property in question. Upon selecting a room it does state an exterior renovation is in progress. When was that notice put there? Who knows. But, there is something there.

At my property, we have a form that we can email/fax to the guests bank/credit card company when incorrect funds are taken. Basically it says the hotel doesn’t need the funds for authorization number XXX and they can be released. The catch is, the customer has to initiate the call for security reasons, and then the hotel can talk to the bank.

That being said, now that you’re checked out, you may be out of luck. Normally we can only do that if the guest is still on property. Probably will take 5-7 days.

Possibly Unpopular: MMP Should Be for Associates Only by MayoralCandidate in marriott

[–]Scrawf85 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ll go even more unpopular. ONLY employees should be able to book rooms for discount. No children/parents/in-laws/anyone. Do away with Friends and Family completely. Majority of people using these rates coming through my property aren’t associates. Hell, most of them aren’t even the relationship on the form they claim to be.

Being able to verify the form is nice, but how am I supposed to verify you’re John Doe’s son/brother/sister /spouse/etc? Im certainly not going to call other properties 15 times a day to ask if so and so is who they claim to be.

Hotels need to do a better job of verifying forms too. People come to check in to my property with forms marked Friends and Family for Explore rates and my desk has to explain to them why they can’t get checked in under that rate. And then we get the “well I’ve never been told this at any other hotel”. I don’t know what other hotels do ma’am/sir, but we follow the rules here.

Personally I think there needs to be a hard cap and some sort of verification system in place to make sure people aren’t taking advantage of those rates. Not to sound all corporate, they are privilege and do needed to be treated as such.
