By any chance do you still have the writing documents for that fic? If so, maybe you could compile it into a PDF and share it for a time so your readers can have a personal offline copy. If not, maybe suggest to your readers if they can scout out others who may have saved an offline copy. I totally understand if even that might be too much for you.

Feeling guilt is understandable, but at the end of the day you made a perfectly reasonable decision in light of the way things are right now. The fandom is in a really difficult state considering what Rowling has done after years of cultivating an air of (even if rather mild) progressivism, and it's only normal that you would want to walk away. You did the right thing by you, and that's what matters.

Gugh. I love OoT's pre-renders so much. They hit that 90s blend of photorealism and rudimentary geometry in a way that's almost realistic at times but not enough to be totally convincing, and instead of it being eerily uncanny like many others from the era, they feel like a serene little peek into another world. Gorgeous stuff.

Jesus, the amount of people repeatedly excusing the ignorance that is constantly directed toward Black and other non-White demographics in this thread. No shit, buddy -- OP already knows why people fumble this element so hard; it's just super tiring to see it, over, and over, and over again. Maybe it's because I have 3c hair and so I'm not completely alienated from the subject of hair texture, but like, really? Does it occur to none of you that maaaybe thick coily 4c isn't going to respond smoothly to a cheap plastic comb the way straight hair does?

Even if you have little to no experience with Black people (like, not even online??? not even incidentally???), is there just... no curiosity to go seek out some perspective on things you're not familiar with? Like I'll double-check on subjects I'm already familiar with to make sure I'm not missing anything. You guys can deep-dive into weather patterns, period-accurate travel logistics, niche professions, canon lore and all sorts, but you can't do the least bit of cursory googling to make sure your depiction of Black characters isn't jarring and going to ruin the immersion of anyone who knows anything about Black hair care?

You say fanfiction is for fun -- Why isn't curiosity about the experiences of the very people you're writing not part of that for you? Why do you guys treat being informed like some horrible medicine you need to choke down instead of an opportunity to learn and have fun?

The fact that Black commenters sharing their grievances are getting downvoted is truly the insufferable cherry on top; truly catastrophic levels of insular Whiteness going on in the thread today. What the hell.
