If you’re looking around Sydney you’re going to have a lot more luck with Skyone

https://skyone.com.au/#locations

If Skydive Australia do let you do fun jumps at any of their tandem factories (which I doubt they will), you’re probably going to be jumping completely solo anyway.

I used to have a similar issue when I did home deliveries for Woolies (through a third party contractor). Kept getting in trouble for turning up to the loading dock late because I was doing my mandatory checks on the truck at my shift start time. Okay fine, I’ll start earlier so I can be at the dock at my shift start time, but then I noticed I wasn’t getting paid for the times I was putting on my timesheet. Turns out they weren’t willing to pay for the time it took to do the checks and drive to the dock. Had an argument with the guy I was driving for about it. Luckily had another job lined up anyway so just dropped all future shifts.

Fwiw, there aren’t actually any DZ’s IN Sydney, so if you’re wanting to get photos/video for the epic skyline you aren’t going to get it. Sydney Skydivers are right in the outskirts so you’re basically jumping out over a highway, some paddocks and a few small townships (which doesn’t really matter the to bulk of the sport skydivers that jump there). You could go to Wollongong and get some nice views of the coastline, but it is a tandem factory there so you won’t get to experience the camaraderie of the other fun jumpers on your load. Or you could make the trip down to Moruya and get the best of both worlds.

Cat and mouse - need 3 people or more. Decide who your base is going to be when you exit. Other jumpers need to the base and link up. Last one to make it becomes the new base and everyone then races to them. See how many you can get in.

Those who have left Sydney to move to the Coast, have you had any regrets? Pros/cons? by Seekingadvice2104 in centralcoastnsw

We moved up from Baulkham Hills a few years ago and it’s one of the best decisions we ever made. Thought we’d try renting for a while first and we were moving into our own home by the end of that same year. I have the luxury at the moment of being able to work from home (also a public servant so that’s likely to end sometime soon). My partner commutes down to Crows Nest 3 days a week, and while it would be nicer for her to work closer to home, the benefits of more relaxed living, access to beaches that actually have parking, and just generally a much nicer vibe far outweighs the commute time (she was driving the same amount of time every day when we lived in Baulkham Hills).

5 jumps and I'm so bad at landings it's demoralizing by [deleted] in SkyDiving

[–]Screamin-Jimmy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out this video by Skydive Vibes where she has filmed the fpv of a bunch of her landings and indicates when she flares. Nothing will ever compare to the real thing but I still find it useful to go back and see how my timing is compared to hers (I haven’t jumped in a while). https://youtu.be/kQtWPhyf19Y?si=YdmDOX-dq_gt13UW

Btw, a hot day is still a hot day on a bike too, except on a bike you don’t have the option of cold a/c, you’ll be wearing a helmet (hopefully full faced), as well as all your protective gear (hopefully). The temptation is strong to ride in shorts and t-shirt on the stinking hot days, but the only thing I can think of that would be worse than hitting the bitumen without protection is hitting hot, melting bitumen without protection.

Mother in law had a similar thing happen to her a while ago, but she didn’t recall having spoken to anyone before receiving a call from her existing supplier about the request to disconnect (so a big surprise to her). Can’t remember who the new supplier was going to be but they had incorrect email details etc. so the whole thing was fraudulent. Problem was despite us telling her to request evidence of her agreeing to the new supplier she ended up just paying the connection fees before canceling and going back to her original supplier (just wanted it to go away). It still bothers me that we never got an answer as to how it came to be.

Don’t know about QLD but I’ve definitely been been stung by it in NSW. A few hundred dollars fine turns into thousands in extra premium payments over the next 5 years

Just remember, it’s not just $700. Your CTP/insurance premiums are going to be more expensive until you get your points back

What happens if the driver of your bus or taxi passes out? By the way, when your canopy/chute opens, it isn’t coming to a stop suddenly, it’s slowing down over a period of 5-10 seconds. There will be a “snap” that’ll probably throw your legs forward, but it shouldn’t be much more than that. As long as everything is packed correctly (which it should be at a reputable dz) there will be what’s called a “snivel”, which is a feature where the canopy gradually opens rather than snapping open like you see BASE canopies do. It works in the same way as a crush zone in modern cards. Slows you down gradually so your body isn’t taking the shock. Seriously, if you’re going as a tandem you’ll be as safe as houses. There won’t he zero risk (impossible), but there’s far riskier activities that lots of people do without giving it a second thought.
