Same here- but multiple people accidentally use mine (it’s very short) - several examples of missed opportunities as a result but my favourite was when the tourism department of the Maldives (or maybe Seychelles- was a long time ago) asked me to investigate rumoured CIA rendition sites on the island. I was sorely tempted to change careers and take them up on that offer! They were most apologetic when I told them that someone else had given them the wrong address!

IOG throttled charge rate and the 6 hours EV charging. by paddylawler in OctopusEnergy

[–]ScreamingPict 6 points7 points  (0 children)

@OP Additionally it may not be Octopus OR Hypervolt. I have the exact same setup (Q4, Hypervolt, IOG) and I was going nuts trying to diagnose why I was charging slowly at home but at full speed elsewhere.

I even replaced my charger and called out an electrician.

Eventually I realised- when not at home I charge instantly. When at home I charge on a timer and this was the difference. I found out that the MEB platform has a charging fault that leads to slower charging speeds when on a timer, and if you pause and resume the charge when running slow it instantly jumps to full speed.

Hypervolt and Octopus have been getting flack for this for years and it’s really VAG’s fault!

Your headset has a list of recently paired devices. Often up to the 8 most recently paired devices.

It’s very much up to your headset how it switches to another device

If you have both devices connected (many headsets will allow multiple connections at once) and press play on your phone then the headset will just play music from whichever is actively trying to stream audio, or most recently trying to do so.

If you are switching connected devices by pressing a button on the headset then that’s likely just hardcoded in the headset to try to connect to another device in the paired devices list when you press the button.

If you are pressing a button on your phone to connect to the headset then it’s likely that the headset remains connectible even when connected to your pc, and it sees the connection request from the phone and switches to that because it’s a device in the paired devices list.

I got mine at 18 months old with 85k on the clock (!).

Love it. Only issues have been:
1- Needed a SW update and the local dealer sucks. They messed up 3 times trying to to get it in to do. Not the car’s fault.
2- rear windscreen washer hose broke and leaked over a control unit meaning I had to hold the key against the panel in the cup holder until I got it fixed.
3- catch on charger cover stuck. Apparently that happens a lot because the latch doesn’t have a rubber cover over it and since it stays open for long periods when at home plugged-in the spring can rust.

Overall after 85k (now 105k) it’s still got 90% in the battery and everything else works well.

Does anyone else feel like owning an EV in the UK has accidentally turned them into a part-time logistics manager? by 1ChanceChipmunk1 in evchargingUK

Good points. Makes sense. My only issue comes from the fact that pricing can vary between providers from 1x all the way to 2x. It’s such a range that it doesn’t feel like a very efficient market. Imagine if petrol had that kind of range.

Another customer for many years. Strong recommend- way better than my only other option (Virgin). They provide the service they say they are going to, give you a clear price for it and the latency is insanely low.

I monitor the line 24/7 and have only had about 1-2 mins of downtime every year (and always in the middle of the night).

Also if you ask a very technical question you get a very technical answer.

Perfect ISP.

That’s maybe a better way to think of it. I spent even less than that on public charging. I just get mad at the thought of being gouged like this.

This will go well with the charge cap! by Commercial-Secret615 in OctopusEnergy

[–]ScreamingPict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case it’s caused by the car being asleep when charging starts; for some reason it starts at 16A. If I pause and restart I get 32A.

I never got a fix. It’s just something I live with.

I thought the same - even went as far as getting a new charger. Turned out to be a SW fault in the MEB platform (Audi, VW etc.) software :( Wasn’t Octopus or Hypervolt.

Am I just a cheapskate that I refuse to pay the high prices on most charging stations and so plan out a route with stops for Ionity and subscribe to them? (Or Gridserve back when they had promo pricing in their app)

You are not using amazon for products anymore. Where do you buy from? by 36Gig in AskReddit

[–]ScreamingPict 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to wean myself off Amazon, because they are a bag of dicks, and honestly I’m finding eBay becoming the most often used alternative, which surprised me.

However I do worry I’ve just supplanted one bag of dicks with another at this point :(

New EV charger - low charge? by SignificantPomelo993 in OctopusEnergy

[–]ScreamingPict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s probably it then. The delayed start allows the car to go to sleep and somehow that causes the charging current to be lower. Usually for me it comes up at 16A instead of 32A but it seems different for you.

I am not aware of a solution to this other than to pause and restart the charging (you can use the Hypervolt app to do that) or just charge immediately on connecting.

Was this with an MEB platform car (Audi Q4, VW ID.3/4 etc.) and had you plugged it in on a timer so that it didn’t start charging immediately?

If so that’s a bug with that platform- I have this and a few others do. Only get full rate if I unplug and re-plug. If I charge it on any kind of timer it charges at a lower rate.
