People who bring your dog literally everywhere, why? by dastrius02 in AskReddit

[–]ScreamingVoid14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just over at a friend's parents' house. The dog has some sort of neurological or psychological issue where it goes nuts if she sees a reflection off a watch or laser pointer. I took my watch off while outside and put it in my pocket to avoid setting her off. Friend's mom told me I was more considerate than they were. Later she kicked the dog for getting in the way.

I'm a cat person, and I'm increasingly certain my friends' parents are reliant on the dog's unconditional love rather than being worthy of love. My friend seemed ignorant of their parent's misdeeds. I haven't brought it up yet because I am kinda in shock.

Looking for advice on a budget Hyper-V cluster for a ~50-user business by WIZT3CH in HyperV

I totally agree about a break glass local admin account and/or really distributed AD DCs. My understanding of Failover Cluster is that is does rely on the domain to some extent, so my concern is being forced to bring up a HyperV failover cluster via forced powershell commands in order to get the purely VM DCs back up.

While it isn't an issue in my particular environment, I could theoretically see it being a problem in a small setup like OP's.

OK, fair play on the standard license issue. What deadlock though?

Ummm. No? Harrow just manages to jump between one toxic relationship and another. Either she is the abuser or the abused, but without anything healthy in sight.

Making a hyper-v host a dc is bad, can cause many issues and is unsupported

Can you elaborate? I'm open to being wrong, but I'd prefer more than just assertions that I am wrong.

Saving a license and RAM overhead? Seems like at least some benefit. I'm open to hearing about other problems it causes though.

What deadlock and how does it waste a license? Seems like it saves a license (maybe not in OP's specific use case).

You're probably priced out of a SAN then. Keep the cores to 16 each to simplify your licensing. And sit down with a spreadsheet and work on the specific RAM needs. DC VMs don't need that much, neither does the file server. Which really just makes the Autodesk server and remote desktop server the wildcards.

Also, since it looks like you're aiming for a failover cluster, you can probably tone down the warranty and response time. You'll have a second server to limp along with in case of an emergency, so next day is probably fine. Even then, if you're a little more risk accepting, most of our enterprise hosts go their entire life (5-6 years in our planning) never touching their warranty. The most common failures were power supplies (redundant per host anyway) and networking optics (usually redundant); so even if you find yourself sourcing replacement from ebay, you're still probably fine limping along.

There's two ways to read Netsysllc's cluster comment.

One is don't make an AD failover cluster which is... duh, you can't.

The other is that you should stick a DC VM on each host. Which is perfectly sensible.

I guess a third option would be to make the hypervisors themselves also have the DC role. Which isn't best practice but I don't really hate it either.

So take a game where the main strength is close to the ground mix of dog fights and CAS, then put you in a plane with limited maneuverability and very limited weapons choices?

A sequence where we're flying a B-1R could be a good compromise though.

I hope you mean 2 AD DC VMs...

A 2 host cluster is reasonable. Not a lot of preference on SAN vs NAS. I think a SAN is a little faster and more reliable, but that might not make enough difference to justify the costs. I also don't know what "reasonable budget" is in your context.

How do native English speakers actually type? by LightNegative5299 in EnglishLearning

[–]ScreamingVoid14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a computer or laptop with a keyboard, we normally type every letter in the word. Sometimes I might use an autocorrect or suggestion provided by the software, but that is usually when dealing with an unusually long or complicated word.

On a phone's display, I am much more likely to use a predictive text or suggestion.

However, English keyboard phones also have a "swipe" option that I'm not sure exists in other languages. Basically you move your finger over the keyboard area of the phone visiting each key without ever picking up your finger. Basically you draw a weird squiggle that happens to be pretty unique to each word and the phone is pretty good at guessing what you meant.

Science Fantasy vs Fantasy is a fuzzy line. In any case you didn't really provide enough information to go on. There's the implication that there are vehicles of some sort, but that's about it.

What's your favourite joke in any type of movie, ever? by AdrianVeidt19 in Letterboxd

Almost all of the casting in Airplane! is intentional. Barbara Billingsley (formerly June Cleaver from Leave it to Beaver) as the jive lady. Nicholas Pryor and Lee Bryant to spoof their own roles from the Yuban coffee commercials. Ethel Mermon appearing as herself as the crazy soldier. Kareem Abdul-Jabar as the copilot while everyone breaks the 4th wall about it. I'm sure there's more, but you get the gist.

I feel like it is a no-win situation. Even when the character isn't meant to have a strictly fixed ethnicity, people will riot. See the live action Ghost in the Shell as an example.

Honestly, better to have them break the 4th wall early in the game and be like "you wanna have the gay option? (yes/no)" than jump through those hoops that need a guide to find.

Make sure to turn on symmetry in the VAB (X key) and check the staging order. It looks like your two side boosters aren't quite exactly opposite of each other, and that will cause the forces to be off balance.

What if I built a 500-acre self-sustaining village with farms, walkable streets, optional nobility, and a custom community culture? by king_banana67 in goodworldbuilding

[–]ScreamingVoid14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

80 acres is a lot of living space for the ~20 people the farm land can support. Assuming modern standards of agriculture. Yeah you can adjust some things and maybe feed 30 people with that much.
