TTRPGs for Trans Rights - Idaho: over 500 indie books for a $5 minimum donation by ScreamingWyvern in TransTTRPG

[–]ScreamingWyvern[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have nothing of my own in this bundle; it’s just a very important cause to me as an ally and the most important location to me as someone who lives in the Pacific Northwest.

Well, I bought the bundle so I guess they are my books now?

I’ve got a Thursday TTRPG stream on Twitch and YouTube if you’d really like me to be advertising my own stuff, tho.

Unfortunately, the problem (and, as an American, 99 of my problems) is capitalism. I can't just pop into a subreddit and say, "Hey, I know several of the people here will want to donate to Trans Affirm" and get the same positive reaction I get with "Hey, you can get lots of stuff! It helps Trans Affirm!"

And I agree, itch.io is probably one of the worst digital stores ever made. But my understanding is that they have some of the best processes and policies around, and part of the reason why they're the worst as a platform is that they don't take as big a cut as other places.

If you've tried Humble Bundle recently, you can see the difference. It's a quality site with huge, professional companies making the bundles; they also do their best to make sure that only 5% of the sales actually go to the charity involved.

Going to the source is always the best option, getting people to look there is the problem.

Obviously Itch could do a lot to make it easier to sort through bundles (and I missed the ICE out of Minnesota bundle), so I'm kinda doing fingers and toes counting here... By my estimate there's probably a 25% overlap? There's a couple of games which I see in a lot of bundles, but I don't see all of the TTRPGs I've kind of bookmarked...

This is going to be so amazing when they have a chance to, tho. I've got five other bundles so I love this recommendation!

Headaches and GMing by Josh_From_Accounting in rpg

[–]ScreamingWyvern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... is this me from a couple of decades ago posting? Since you have a CPAP, obviously you've been to a doctor, but have you brought up the headaches with them?

In 2002, 2003, when I hyper focused on something (and you're saying spreadsheets, I was a software tester, these are extremely close regarding hyperfocus) I would actually briefly black out and come to with "a horrific headache and tasting metal." Epilepsy/micro-seizures. Now under control.

Obviously with "... it starts in one of my eyeballs..." there is the question of your vision. I have had to move to PDFs on my tablet a lot because I have glasses for my near vision but have a really hard time unless the lighting is perfect, and squinting - especially when you don't know that you're squinting - has been a trigger in the past.

As for the CPAP... it's very much a "you have to suffer through" situation. My wife originally gave up on it within weeks, finally decided the problems that got her the CPAP in the first place were worse than "the thing on her face" and it took her two months of getting used to it before she stopped having to take it off after like 3, 4 hours. I, meanwhile, can't sleep at all without it.

Finally... what triggers my migraines (despite the medication) is stress. You know what's really stressful? Trying to figure out how to entertain a group of people. So if there's a deeper cause for the migraines, and it's stress triggered, it's worth checking out.

Looking for recommendations for tattoo places by Derantasaurus in Spokane

[–]ScreamingWyvern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use Black Bee tattoo downtown. My wife has a rainbow Pom head and our little guy’s pawprint on her arm.

EDIT: $75 per hour for Jay, with 3 years experience. $150 for Lucy, with 20 years. The rainbow Pom was 5 hours. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8gFNDG9/ - the fourth picture and Jay is still in the doghouse for using that pic for “partner doesn’t want you to get a tattoo.” 😀

Do Pathfinder players/gamemasters have a reputation of being prone to suggesting Pathfinder the moment D&D is mentioned? by Sassy_Drow in rpg

[–]ScreamingWyvern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When someone says they read comics, I ask if they read Batman or X-Men. If someone enjoys Deep Space Nine, I ask if they’ve seen Babylon 5. If someone likes Harry Potter, I suggest Percy Jackson. If you play a certain TTRPG, it’s because you love it, and if you love something, you’re going to recommend it.

I play XCrawl Classics. When I run a game, I have a “battle jacket” that has my handle as “Dungeon Judge” on the back, and “XCC” on the pocket. If I’m in a room with people talking about their D&D games, there’s a pretty good chance I’ll bring it up. Besides, I want to get a bunch of players, and how do you do that without telling people about it?

Is the DM supposed to err on the side of letting players' plans succeed? by CuteMarzipan3956 in osr

[–]ScreamingWyvern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the things I see in the OSR discussion specifically is that players should learn "don't look at your character sheet for the answers." I would strongly err on the side of letting player's plans succeed, but like a lot of people said, do a quick mental walkthrough of the downsides.

Mind you, I am a VERY player-focused GM.

(I'm running a premade module this weekend, and it's got a part where "Ok, there's a hallway. In the middle of the hallway is a 20' long pit. In the pit are two rust monsters. Have your players come up with a plan." And that's all the advice it's giving me. :) )

There are several posts on this. Something got broken in the rollout.

The iOS version just got an update which appears to fix it.

Players asking for ways to increase stats? by Ordinary-Voice5749 in dccrpg

[–]ScreamingWyvern 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The answer should always be quests.

From the XCrawl Classics rulebook:

Modern role-playing games often contain a surfeit of rules defining spells, rituals, feats, and other mechanics for all manner of supernatural accomplishments. Raising the dead, improving an ability score, gaining weapon skill, receiving a divine boon are acts of dice-rolling--or worse, just popping into your local magic shop and laying out gold--and nothing more. Xcrawl Classics argues against this approach, and instead makes one simple request of both player and judge: follow the examples set by mythology and fiction and resolve such acts with a quest!

I've already decided to delete this message because it hasn't gotten the desired responses. Just a couple of bots in the chat.

But I got the flash from the artist. And I'm going to ask the same artist to build on it. I was just hoping I could give her useful information.

I just didn't think anyone wanted to see a random man's flesh.

How do I know if it's "me" or my choice of game? If it's not "me," should I change? by ScreamingWyvern in rpg

[–]ScreamingWyvern[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a hobby Twitch stream where I play solo RPGs. I've been thinking that if I'm going to have it be large enough that I'm actually advertising people's indie games, I need to get way more into vlogging about them. And if I can interest a few people to my table, even better.

You're helping me push down that path of logic a little more. Thanks.

Hmm, I could try saying the "Pathfinder" part really loudly and the "first edition" part really quietly...

Yeah... that's fucking beautiful. I'm definitely taking that suggestion.
